As Gold explains, Nothing But Nets is a UN program where people can donate money, which is then used to buy mosquito nets for people in countries that are prone to malaria.

Gold also gives away a mini-spoiler (at least to me).  Betty’s tie-in between the fashion world of Mode and the Nothing but Nets program is that the models are wearing clothes made of mosquito nets. That’s pretty cool.

As we’ve seen, the photo shoot goes awry, after all, this is Ugly Betty.

Gold does mention that it is an honor to be able to shoot at the UN, very few shows have been allowed to do that.  It helps that Ugly Betty is promoting one of the UN’s initiatives.  So, in a way it’s cross-promotion and product placement, on a slightly higher level than the Cherry 7-up thing in episode 3.22, In The Stars. 

Nothing But Nets is a program everyone can get behind, and I hope donations increase as a result of the show!

We see the cast and crew filming at the UN, working on Betty’s feature article – which of course goes horribly wrong.  There are fisticuffs!

Daniel Eric Gold says that they have the “two nights here at the UN”, and Vanessa Williams, looking fresh as ever, is surprised that she is giving an interview at 3am.

Something about the quotes from the producers struck me, especially when Jim Klever-Weis says that for the first time we’ll see Betty as a leader.  I think that will add a new energy to the show, even more than Betty’s makeover.

Speaking of which, America Ferrera tells us that Betty’s physical transformation will be gradual (I had guessed it will be Nanny-Mcfee like).  Vanessa Williams says that it’s about time and that people want to see some changes in Betty.

Sheila Lawrence says they are taking the opportunity of Betty’s (practically) starting over, to reshape the character as the “loveable underdog” again.

I am so excited for the upcoming season premiere.  Hopefully, there will be heavy promotion on DWTS and the new hits Modern Family and Cougar Town.  With Dollhouse starting badly, there is an opening for Ugly Betty, I think.  Medium looks strong, though, so I’ll be very interested to see how Betty does on October 9.

The artist, ibrahim, is extremely talented, IMHO.  He has also speed-drawn Rhianna, Keanu Reeves, and others.

The accompanying song, "The Beauty in Ugly” by Jason Mraz, is of course, perfect.  For those of you who don’t remember, the song is a re-write of another Mraz song, “Plain Jane” that he penned for Ugly Betty’s season two promotional “Be Ugly In 07” campaign.  The song is a kind of unofficial Ugly Betty theme song, even if the show has gone to a more techno soundtrack lately.

But as for the drawing – wow.  Betty, of course, has a few stark features, and it’s easy to overdo them, but ibrahim manages to capture the character’s “hidden” beauty.

As a non-artist, it’s also quite cool to see how a portrait is built.

First off, let me say that the old man at the end is NOT me. 

Basically, it’s different shots of people from a “bring back Betty” protest, interspersed with a few scenes from recent episodes.

Here’s what I really like about this promo and its associated campaign: it looks like ABC is going to go all out to create anticipation for the return of Ugly Betty.  The suits at the network know that it was all over the internet that Ugly Betty was “canceled” (for the record, we never reported that here).  This creates the impression, without coming out and fibbing about it, that a fan campaign “saved” the show.  This creates a considerable amount of buzz.

And, they ran the promo several times during America’s Funniest Home Videos, Extreme Makeover, Home Edition, Desperate Housewives, and most importantly, Dancing With The Stars.  As Len Goodman, DWTS head judge would say, it appears that they are finally going to “give it a go” at promoting Ugly Betty in earnest, for the first time since season 1.

The network has done its job;  they threw a fat fastball down the middle.  Now it’s up to the writers, producers, cast and crew to hit it out of the park.

My first impression is that this is the prettiest Betty I’ve seen (although the character’s name is Lisa in this version).  And, of course, as pretty as she already is, she gets really gussied up by the end.  Pah.

According to the show’s Wikipedia entry, in the end Lisa manages to save and finally own Kerima Moda (Mode Magazine), rescues her boss David from death and the wrath of his then-fiancée, watches the dissolve of his engagement to Mariella, and eventually marries her boss.

I do like the proposal scene, but I just don’t see the American Daniel getting down on one knee.

I really do enjoy seeing snippets of the various incarnations of this show around the world – and seeing the similarities and differences from our own beloved show. 

And this song is awesome.  Do any of you know where I can find an English translation of the lyrics?

Oh, my. The absolute BEST part of this clip is the look on Amanda’s face when she sees Wilhelmina (and more importantly, Marc) making a triumphant return. It only happens for a split second, but that look speaks for millions of us who have been waiting all season for this moment to happen.

Is it not adorable how Marc and Willi’s outfits coordinate?

This scene makes me realize that I’m going to miss Alexis / Rebecca Romijn. “I can take her” – of course, we’ve heard this joke before, but it’s still funny.

Michael Urie is so deliciously perfect in this scene. It is very reminiscent of the first few episodes of season 1. He lets Wilhelmina have the spotlight, but projects “Diva” even more than she does.

The look on Daniel’s face at the end – that “What just happened?” look – is priceless. I can’t wait for tomorrow night! Don’t forget, we’ll be live blogging it as usual.

I’ll be honest – I think that in a comedic sense, nobody in the cast has better chemistry with America Ferrera than Freddy Rodriguez (except maybe Becki Newton). This scene reminds me of the “quack, woof” scene from episode 2.03 (Betty’s Wait Problem).

Benry fans, do not despair at the end of this video. We KNOW that Henry makes a return in the finale, and what ABC doesn’t show you here is that Betty slaps Gio after the kiss (you can see it in the promo for this episode).

I’ll be honest, I like this agressive Gio much more than the pushover Gio who tried a little too hard on Betty’s Birthday, and was a little TOO nice to Henry in episode 2.15. He seems to bring the best out in Betty. If it’s Gio Betty stays with (I personally think she’s going to dump them both), I would prefer it be this version, rather than the sappy one.

I was worried that this particular story line (Daniel/Renee/Wilhelmina) would bog down the flow of the show, but from the looks of this video, it’s going to be pretty fun to watch. Basically, Wilhelmina shows up at Daniel’s door to warn him about Renee and how she “gets” with men. Daniel doesn’t want to listen to her, but she plants a seed in his head about “Stonybrook“.

I’ll guarantee he’ll ask about it.

I love how Wilhelmina says “I know we’ve had our issues”, then Daniel lists her many sins, and she adds “…some bigger than others”. Too funny.

As we previously reported, ABC has released two new sneak peeks videos for Ugly Betty episode 2.12, “Odor in the Court”.  Some of you had trouble viewing them at other sites, so here is your opportunity!

The first is pretty wild.  For whatever reason, Betty has gone crazy (in particular, Henry-crazy).  She literally jumps Henry in the elevator!

America Ferrera is really showing her range here (Betty is funniest when she’s frantic). But Christopher Gorham, with Henry’s mortified reaction, makes the scene.
