You’ll notice in some of these pics that Marc (Urie) looks worried or hard-pressed, and Wilhelmina (Williams) seems angry.  In a way, this is a good thing.  If Wilhelmina looked happy and cheerful, something would definitely be wrong.  The last thing we need is a contented or happy Willi.

In other pics, (from a related but different scene – Marc is wearing a beret  and different shirt, but the same overcoat), Marc is being made to carry what appears to be beach apparel (bright, pastel  clothes, Croc-like shoes).

Could it be that this is the moment that Wilhelmina decides to run to the Bahamas to catch up with Connor Owens?  I’ll bet it is.  But then again, there is someone else in that scene (see last pic), so there’s more to this scene than appears.

Regardless, I love the coat Urie is wearing.  The beret?  Not so much. 

I never though about it before, but it HAS to be kind of hot to be filming late-autumn/winter scenes in late summer/early autumn.

Williams, even when her character is upset, looks spectacular, as usual.  Wilhelmina’s search for Connor will be one of the more interesting story lines in season four.

A couple of small children, who are quite adorable, joined Ferrera as she exited the trailer.  I don’t think they are part of the shoot – but they sure are cute.

America, in the deep red coat, is beautiful and stylish (love the butterfly pin). I THINK the photos I’ve included with Ferrera totally in costume are from the same shoot.  The shoes, scarf, and gloves “Betty-fy” the outfit, although much more subtlety than in the past (especially Ugly Betty season 3).  Of course, in one of the pics, a dress with big polka dots peeks from beneath her coat, so Betty definitely still has a uniqueness to her style.

I will say that with her parted bangs, trimmed eyebrows and almost-polished look, this incarnation of Betty is quite attractive.  I’ve always loved Betty anyway, but back in the day I would have definitely asked this Betty to dance on ladies’ night. 

She does still have her braces at this point .  I’m going to assume the episode in which the braces are removed will not be done quietly.  Shoot, it might even be a good subplot for the musical episode.

Help me out here.  I can’t seem to remember a Claire / Amanda scene before in any of the first three seasons, except maybe just in passing.  Or am I forgetting a scene they had together?  (Notwithstanding Odor in the Court, in which Amanda withheld evidence that exonerated Claire)  I’m curious to see what this is all about.  Maybe Claire is trying to get information from Amanda about something Marc and Wilhelmina are doing?

Or, even more intriguing – the two have a connection, in a way.  One was adopted, and one put up a child for adoption years before.  Claire’s baby was of course a boy, and Amanda was Fey’s daughter, so the connection is only that the two have had their lives touched by adoption before.

But, since we know that both adoption stories will be part of storylines this year (word is that Amanda will restart the search for her biological father), it only stands to reason that Claire and Amanda would cross paths, I would think.

Judith’s hair still looks wonderful, and I love how she creatively makes up for a lack of pockets.

I see that the character Natalie, Daniel’s new assistant played by Sigler, will have some pretty wild tastes in fashion.  I’ll leave it to you fashionistias to judge her look, but I think it’s almost Betty-like.  I THINK Patricia Field does that to characters she wants to appear approachable and non-threatening.  (Think about it – the better dressed you are, the higher chance you’re up to no good on Ugly Betty).

Are those Lohan leggings?   

Regardless, Sigler still looks beautiful.  And she seems to have caught Daniel in a happy moment:

According to reports, Natalie is supposed to be “spiritual”, and meets Daniel in a bereavement support group.  As I’ve said before, I sincerely hope she’s not being brought in to be Daniel’s new squeeze, at least not until LATE in season four, if we get there.  Between Wilhelmina’s lunatic sister and his true love’s tragic end, Daniel needs a romantic rest, I think.

She IS supposed to have some kind of secret that might pit her against Betty, though.  I can’t wait to see what that’s about.

Becki looks wonderful in this leather or faux-leather outfit.  It doesn’t look quite as clownish as some of the outfits costume designer Patricia Field had her wear in season three.

Michael, though?  Well, he looks quite stylish and fashionable, except for the strange shirt he’s got on under the suit.  Drag News!  Actually, I like the shirt, it just looks so strange with a coat and tie, though.  I WANT those shoes, though.  They remind me of shoes I wore in the 80’s.  Go Pat Field!

The two are just so wonderful together.  I know we’ve all said this a hundred times, but Urie and Newton need their own show when Ugly Betty’s run is over with.  Maybe in England – just so we can hear them say thumbinmebum. 

It will be interesting to see these two in season four, especially with the introduction of Helen, the temp who is the older version of Amanda.  I wonder if there will be a friend triangle.  That might make for some interesting story lines.

But there’s more – apparently America Ferrera’s Betty was made to do all sorts of, shall we say, interesting things that day.

Pulling a rickshaw with Marc and some couple of substantial girth?  Is this some sort of initiation?  Possibly.  At first I thought it was the case that Marc had some power over Betty – he had something she wanted or had info she didn’t want revealed.  But, Marc himself dresses up as a hot dog bun (something Marc would NEVER do willingly):

But, it wasn’t just Betty – check out Brooklyn Decker pedaling the rickshaw, giving a ride to two shirtless men:

OK. maybe she just posed with the rickshaw and the shirtless men, but wow.

Now, I have more questions than answers.  But,as one of you said, it looks like this season of Ugly Betty is going to be no-holds-barred; I don’t think there’s going to be much subtlety early in season four.  If the show gets cancelled, it won’t be because they held anything back, comedy-wise.

It may save the show, or they may crash and burn.  Regardless, it’ll be fun to watch.

When you think about it, the ridiculous cultural confusion of “Taj Mah Hot Dog” is classic Ugly Betty.  Of course, the menu behind Ferrera actually says “Delicious Meat Substitute Hot Dogs”, so I guess that makes a little more sense.

Ferrera is wearing a bit of an Indian costume to go with the hot dog she’s wearing.  Although I have never seen shoes like that before.

Word is that Michael Urie was also involved in this scene (no pics of Urie, sorry.  I wonder if he played “straight” to Ferrera’s craziness, or was he in, say, a hamburger suit?)

UPDATE Michael Urie was indeed in costume, actually as a hotdog bun. I might post a set because he looks so silly, but here are a couple at the Daily Mail.

My first instinct is that this is something Cal Hartley put Betty up to, but I can’t picture a scenario where Hartley would wish to help an establishment called “Taj Mah Hot Dog”.  No, I think this is something Betty is doing on her own, for some strange reason.

Call me intrigued.  I can’t wait to see what this is all about!

It appears that Eric Mabius’ beard will indeed end up onscreen, at least for a while.  Daniel is obviously distraught (as expected), and Betty seems to need comforting, too.

This outfit is more season 3 Betty than the new, more stylish Betty we’ve been promised for season 4.  It’s not that the top doesn’t match in general, but the floral pattern and crazy shoes just seem overdone.  Betty’s hair IS perfectly straight, though. 

I’ve said it before, Mabius looks great when he’s in his usual designer suit, but he also does casual quite well.

It appears that one side of Betty’s glasses are taped as if they had been broken; I wonder what the story is with that?

Finally, in this photo set was a strange one of a rather odd looking dog – the caption just said “America Ferrera’s dog”.  Now, I’ve seen photos of America’s dogs visiting her on the set before; the ones I have seen are big dogs.  My guess, based on the way the dog is “dressed”:  maybe it’s part of the scene?  Regardless, it’s cute.

No braces here, but, I’d swear in some of the photos I’ve seen, Betty still has them.

Interestingly, Betty is wearing classic post earrings, and the fact that I’ve noticed signifies a change from seasons 1-3.  Betty usually wore her hair straight down over her ears, and you could rarely see her earrings.  In fact, that is still the case when Ferrera is fully in costume:

And, here we see the offending yellow socks.  Something else that’s interesting, in some of the photos, you see these blue and green shoes.  In others, Betty is wearing orangey-red shoes.  I guess they did multiple takes, and will go with the look that focus-groups the best.  Personally, I like the orangey-red, but I know less about fashion than Betty, so they’ll probably go with the blue and green.

OR – the orangey shoes could just be Ferrera’s (they look like they’re made of “Crocs”-type material, and America is just wearing them between takes to stay comfortable).  But then again, they don’t seem to be Ferrera’s style.

I’ve changed my mind: I don’t think Betty and Matt fight at all in this scene.  If anything, it appears that Betty chases Matt down as he jogs, stops him, and kisses him.  It’s really impossible to tell from the photos what Matt’s reaction is.  But, for some reason, this scene reminds me of the funniest line Matt had all season:  “You kissed Antonio Sabato Jr!  With tongue!”

All of this just makes me more excited for Ugly Betty’s return in October.

I LOVE this photo of America Ferrera as Betty – it’s now going to be my stock pic for good news stories.

Now, we don’t know if the celebratory feel in these photos is part of the plot, or if the actors were wrapping up shooting for the year and were just celebrating that. 

This scene involved Ferrera, along with Michael Urie and Becki Newton. I know many of you think the show is focusing too much on the trio, but man, they are good together.  Yes, they seem to have crossed that line where it doesn’t work when Amanda and Marc are mean to Betty, but there is a wonderful chemistry amongst them that really took off in episode 3.09, When Betty Met YETI, and I think the writers and producers recognized it.

Anyway Becki Newton is even prettier in the bright sun.  Of all the bags, I prefer Marc’s.    Finally, that top, for all of it’s clashy-ness, gives America a busty, Salma Hayek look.  No complaints here.
