"Level (7) with Me" — Daniel lets the leaders from the Community of the Phoenix call the shots at Mode, and Bennett’s promises to reunite Daniel with his dead wife prompt Betty to action. She schemes with Claire on breaking through to him with an ingenious plan and finds unlikely allies in Matt and Amanda. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina has let herself go, wearing sweats and garden clogs in public, prompting a tabloid feeding frenzy and spurring Marc to dig deeper into Nico’s mystery, on "Ugly Betty," FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Note: This program was originally scheduled to air November 20.

"Ugly Betty" stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, Eric Mabius as Daniel Meade, Tony Plana as Ignacio, Ana Ortiz as Hilda, Judith Light as Claire Meade, Becki Newton as Amanda, Michael Urie as Marc, Mark Indelicato as Justin, Daniel Eric Gold as Matt Hartley and Vanessa Williams as Wilhelmina Slater.

Guest starring in "Level (7) with Me" are Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Natalie, Dylan Baker as Bennett Wallis, Alec Mapa as Suzuki St. Pierre, Sarah LaFleur as Molly, Yaya DaCosta as Nico Slater and Piter Marek as Oskar Castelar.

The episode was written by Chris Black and directed by John Fortenberry.

I have seen nothing that says that this episode will not air November 27. (As an aside, isn’t it weird that they still call Piter Marek’s character Castelar?)

After the jump, I’ve got the press release about episode 4.08 (The Bahamas Triangle), airing December 4, which has some mild spoilers!

“The Bahamas Triangle” — In the steamy Bahamas, the love triangle between Betty, Matt and Amanda explodes, and romantic pairings abound. Things should be dreamy at the Atlantis resort, where even Shakira (portraying herself) is staying, but Betty has a nightmarish photo shoot after Willie learns her nemesis, Penelope Graybridge (Christie Brinkley), snagged a coveted job, and, even more importantly, discovers Connor is very much alive. Marc frets that there is no one on the island for him, but then meets the uber-hot Troy (portrayed by Matt Newton, Becki Newton’s brother), and back home, Hilda draws closer to her old love, Bobby, on “Ugly Betty,” FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

“Ugly Betty” stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, Eric Mabius as Daniel Meade, Tony Plana as Ignacio, Ana Ortiz as Hilda, Judith Light as Claire Meade, Becki Newton as Amanda, Michael Urie as Marc, Mark Indelicato as Justin, Daniel Eric Gold as Matt Hartley and Vanessa Williams as Wilhelmina Slater.

Guest starring in “The Bahamas Triangle” are Grant Bowler as Connor Owens, Ralph Macchio as Archie Rodriguez, Christie Brinkley as Penelope Graybridge, with Adam Rodriguez as Bobby Talercio, Matt Newton as Troy and Shakira as herself.

The episode was written by Sheila Lawrence and directed by Victor Nelli, Jr.

I’ll be posting more about this one as it approaches – BettyMattanda, Connor being alive, the introduction of Troy, and a possible Hilda-Bobby pairing are all pretty juicy on their own.

But I wanted to make sure everyone knew the current schedule as it stands:

11/27 – Level (7) with Me
12/4 – The Bahamas Triangle

Beyond that, I won’t speculate, till ABC decides what it’s going to do with its mid-season lineup (especially Wednesdays). And, of course, if there is any change, I’ll pass it along as soon as I know it!

Speaking of the full season DVD, what I most want to see is the “Enhanced Versions” of the episodes we’ve seen in the reruns this summer. They would be worth the price of the set alone. At Amazon.com, the description of the bonus features is:

“Going home to New York City, look who keeps popping up video commentary, webisodes, Betty Bloops, alternate takes, deleted scenes.”

I’m going to hopefully assume the “look who keeps popping up video commentary” is the same as the enhanced versions. Woot.

“I got a call from creator Silvio Horta. When I left the show the first time, he made it clear to me that he was hoping that I would be able to come back at some point. So it wasn’t a totally unexpected phone call. He wanted me to come back and do an episode near the end of the season and, of course, I was happy to do it.”

On his exit from the show, he says the responsible party was “the writers. It was a story problem. I always felt that Henry was kind of accidentally written off the show.” (I always had that feeling, too, like they backed themselves into a corner and said, “whoops”).

Gorham says, “Everybody got so excited about America Ferrera and I together, so the writers immediately tried to save that relationship for the long term on the show, and their way of doing that was to start throwing obstacles in the way to keep us apart. I think what they underestimated was deciding to give him a baby. I don’t think that they realized what that really meant.”

Apparently, something we discussed at Ugly Betty News during season 2 was discussed behind the scenes: “At first, there was a lot of talk that they wouldn’t make the baby Henry’s. That they’d make it Dr. Farkas’ or something. But they didn’t want to cop out and not make it his. So we had long conversations about how Henry could come back with the baby having left his girlfriend Charlie and be a very sympathetic single dad in New York and how that could be really interesting because Betty’s dad is a single dad, too. But as Season 2 was winding down and they started breaking stories for Season 3, I think they realized the show isn’t called ‘Ugly Betty and Henry.’ It’s ‘Ugly Betty’ and there’s a lot of other characters and to really service that single dad storyline you’d really have to spend a lot of time on it. It just wasn’t going to work.

More (including some interesting quotes about the S2 love triangle) after the jump.

About how his character changed at the end of season 2: “Yeah, at the same time they’re giving me this baby to keep me and Betty apart they also brought in Gio, to do that as well”, said Gorham. “So they had to make me a little dumber and make him great. It was very much to make people like Gio, to make this triangle work and make it believable. It just was not good for my job security.”

Shippers, please do not read this next quote from Gorham (about Betty choosing “herself”): “As a viewer, taking my life out of it, I was actually relieved. Because as an audience member and as a fan of the show I was bored of me. Me and Gio and all of her romantic stuff. Like seriously? I never dated that much. Who does that?”

How does Henry come back? “Henry has a new girlfriend, who remarkably looks like his old girlfriend. She’s an aerobics instructor so he’s going with her to New York for an aerobics convention, but he really wants to run into Betty, so he’s updating his Facebook page every five minutes, saying where he is at all times.”

Ha! I’ve done that before!

As for Charlie and the baby, “We talk about the baby. Charlie we don’t talk about. They’ve broken up. In my head, they’re not together. They were never going to be together. The whole point of going to Tucson was not to be together with her, it was to be there with his kid. It’s very Dr. Laura. I think Dr. Laura would like Henry.”

There is so much more at the original interview (hat tip Beatrice B). Check it out!

Here is the full recap for Ugly Betty episode 3.22, In The Stars. My quick thoughts:

Excellent, excellent episode! When you can pack that much action into one episode, make it coherent, and make it fly by, it’s well done all around.
This was one of Michael Urie’s best. He spent most of the time panicking over the YETI project, the rest looking puzzled at Jodi’s advances.
Speaking of Jodi, the whole storyline between her and Marc would not have worked, had it not involved Urie and the wonderful Bernadette Peters. She is larger than life.

I don’t know how Becki Newton feels about it, but I loved how Amanda was used in this episode. She wasn’t part of any story line; her job was to interject wackiness at appropriate times. The scene where Marc and Betty were ignoring her on the phone was classic.

The gay marriage reference was done with the usual Ugly Betty sense of humor and flair. I prefer the subtlety of Betty over the preachiness you might get from other shows.

Much more controversial, believe it or not, was the scene in the conference room with the over-the top product placement for Cherry 7-UP. I’ve seen a lot of complaint about this, but I think the complaints miss the point. Product placement is a fact of life in TV and movies. I like the fact that the writers decided that, since they were going to do it anyway, instead of insulting the audience, they’d let them in on the joke. I’ll do a longer full post about this subject soon – I thought it was one of the funniest scenes in the episode.

Once complaint – they’ve made Matt into such a head case, it’s hard to like him.

I like having the old Wilhelmina back. She’s funniest when she’s annoyed and frustrated.

The musical scene with Adele was the best the show has ever had (excluding Amanda’s My Milkshake scene). I wish they could have made it longer.

Full recap after the jump.

The episode begins with Suzuki St Pierre recapping all the dealings at Mode from the previous few episodes, focusing on the Cal Hartley bailout of Meade. At home, Betty tells her family that today is performance review day, and that she’s going to ask to be promoted to editor. As everyone goes to start their day, Hilda knocks over Elena’s purse, revealing a letter from a Nursing school in California.

Betty and Marc simultaneously go in for their annual performance reviews. Both are glowing (Wilhelmina calls Marc “adequate”, which is about the highest praise she’ll give), yet they are also both informed that there is a hiring freeze (part of the bailout), and neither will become editor this year. Daniel does tell Betty that if YETI brings her an opportunity, he’ll give her a great reference.

Hilda confronts Elena about the letter from California. Elena insists she hasn’t decided if she’s going to take the position. She really wants the job, though, so she is torn. Hilda insists she tell Papi.

Cal butts into a staff meeting where Wilhelmina is going over the final layout for Mode’s wedding issue. It highlights the “Little Black Wedding Dress”. Cal hates the idea. He starts to make suggestions, and with each new one, Wilhelmina looks more and more perturbed.

During this scene, there is HEAVY, over the top product placement for Cherry 7-up antioxidant. It’s in Cal’s hand, on the table, in the layout, and mentioned on-air twice. It’s so in your face, it’s obvious the writers decided to have a little fun with the task they were given, and the results are hilarious.

Claire walks in to get the conference room for a Hot Flash meeting, and Cal asks her opinion of the layout. Claire suggests instead of highlighting black, they highlight colorful wedding dresses, like in Europe. Cal asks her to work with Wilhelmina revamping the issue. Willi is about ready to explode.

Molly sees a giant ring and proposal on a desk, she thinks it’s for her from Daniel and says yes. Unfortunately, it was part of the layout instead. But now Daniel knows what her answer will be, so he knows her can propose in earnest without worry.

At YETI, Jodi is making the final assignment of the year, based on seating at the table. She announces that because of the economic downturn, only the members of the winning team will get interviews with publishing companies. Marc, Betty and a non-present Matt are teamed up, and they are assigned (randomly) to create a magazine layout involving music and physical sciences. During this scene, Jodi flirts with Marc (her boyfriend dumped her the night before).

Marc and Betty dive into their assignment; Betty will write the article, Marc will book a great musician to photograph. Matt, assigned to securing the venue (the planetarium) is distracted watching silly YouTube videos with Amanda. Marc tells Betty they can’t count of Matt, but Betty defends him and says he’ll be fine. Marc says that if Matt doesn’t come around, they’ll have to kick him out of the group.

Daniel tells Claire he can’t decide on a ring; Claire, somewhat reluctantly, pulls her engagement ring off her finger and tells Daniel to go propose. He does, with Betty and Claire watching, getting on one knee quite romantically. Claire is wonderful in this scene.

At the Suarez house, Hilda and family use the news of Daniel’s engagement to convince Ignacio to propose to Elena, so she’ll stay in New York with him.

Marc announces to Betty and Matt that he’s gotten Grammy winner Adele to do their photo shoot. (He tells a wonderful 6-degrees to her story, of course involving Kevin Bacon). Matt then tells them the Planetarium fell through. This makes Marc so mad, he says loudly that Matt should be kicked off the team. Betty begs Matt to get with the program, but he agrees with Marc, and leaves, sadly. Betty chases after him, and in the hall Matt tells her he’s lost his passion for publishing; he’s now into art. Betty is freaked out, but tells him she supports him.

Marc’s choice of venue falls through, and Betty, exasperated, says, “We can’t just paint stars in your apartment and call it the planetarium – this is Adele, not Amy Winehouse”. Betty then gets a call and finds out they did indeed get the planetarium after all. Betty goes to sign the contract.

Wilhelmina argues with Claire over a colorful (but rather hideous) dress, the model between them. Claire brings up Connor, and Wilhelmina says the model looks like a baboon’s ass. As the argument escalates, Marc “evacuates” the staff for their own safety, and they all get out except the poor model, who has her dress torn by Wilhelmina.

Daniel and Molly get a wedding planner; Molly wants the beach, a band, and tacos. The planner freaks out when Daniel says they need to do it within the month (Molly doesn’t have a lot of time), but Daniel insists that they find a way to get it done.

At the planetarium, Victoria surprisingly shows up, and asks Betty to do what she can to keep Matt on track. Apparently, he’s spent a lifetime starting things and not finishing them; she even has a slideshow for effect. Betty doesn’t want to to this, but agrees because Victoria got the planetarium for them (plus, she would also like to see Matt finish YETI).

Meanwhile, Ignacio very nervously proposes to Elena, and she says yes. He doesn’t have a ring but promises to get one as soon as he can.

At lunch, Betty talks Matt into finishing YETI. Matt says she’s sounds like his mother, but he does agree to come back.

At the planetarium, Matt really embraces the project, and Betty is impressed. Betty meets Adele’s manager, who really doesn’t want to be there. Victoria comes in to see if Matt is really there, and on her way out whispers thank you to Betty. This infuriates Matt, and they argue very loudly in front of everyone, causing Adele’s manager to call them amateurs and leave with the star before the shoot. Things are falling apart, so Marc leaves to play his last card, Jodi’s attraction to him.

As one of the planners goes through a wedding gift guide (the planner fretting that he can’t get married), Molly realizes just how little time she has left, and tries to call off the wedding.

At the Suarez house, Papi answers a call from the nursing school. He is visibly upset.

Wilhelmina barges into Cal’s office and says she can’t work with Claire anymore. Claire, for the good of the magazine agrees to step down. After Wilhelmina leaves, Cal asks to speak with Claire alone.

As Betty is fretting about everything falling apart, Daniel tells her that Molly cancelled the wedding. Betty, trying to make the best of two bad situations, convinces Daniel to go grab Molly and have the wedding right there at the planetarium.

Daniel and Molly have a wedding that is at once beautiful and strange, married by and actress/model dressed as an alien, who was an ordained minister before switching professions . The bride and groom are beautiful and dashing.

Later, Claire walks up to Wilhelmina and informs her that Cal made her (Claire) Senior Vice President of Meade. She will report only to Cal, and Wilhelmina now reports to her. This makes Wilhelmina so angry, she stalks off behind the set and destroys some planets.

Matt returns, and apologizes to Betty. He also brings back Adele, who Betty gushes over before she performs for the wedding (and photo shoot).

Ignacio walks up to Elena and tells her he’s got something for her. Instead of a ring, he hands her plane tickets, though. He says it’s not the right time for marriage, and she needs to go follow her dream.

At YETI, Jodi loves the submission by Team Betty, and declares them the winner (adding that it has nothing to do with whatever Marc happened to do with her the night before). She declares them the YETI winners (meaning they will get industry interviews).

As Daniel and Molly are preparing for their honeymoon in Bora Bora, Molly collapses in the bathroom, and the episode ends with Daniel discovering her lifeless body.

Many of us long ago decided our favorite UB writer, and we excitedly await the next episode he or she will pen. No doubt, Brian Tanen probably has the most fans amongst Ugly Betty News commenters. Some are even, for lack of a better word, Brian Tanen goupies.

But, let’s take a look at the major writers for the show, and highlight some of their work.

Silvio Horta - The creator/developer has penned some of the most memorable episodes, including the Pilot, The Box and the Bunny, Sofia’s Choice (which some people loved, some people weren’t crazy about), and The Manhattan Project.

Henry Alonso Myers – Petra Gate,Secretaries Day, Something Wicked, Burning Questions, Crimes of Fashion, Sisters on The Verge, Things Fall Apart. Not bad.

Sheila Lawrence – Fey’s Sleigh Ride, A Thousand Words By Friday, Granny Pants, There’s No Place Like Mode, (and of course, this week’s In The Stars) Very impressive!

Bill Wrubel - Giving Up The Ghost, Odor in The Court, Betty’s Baby Bump, Ugly Berry, A Mother of a Problem. Pretty danged good.

Brian Tanen – Sugar Daddy, When Betty Met YETI, The Kids Are Alright (all solid, there)

Peter Elkoff – The Courtship of Betty’s Father, Tornado Girl (an episode I really liked).

Cara DiPaolo – The Sex Issue, Dress For Success

Tracy Poust And John Kinnally – A Tree Grows in Guadalajara, Betty’s Wait Problem, Bananas For Betty, Crush’d

Since we’re dealing in the present tense, I only included writers credited at least once this season. Which leaves out several great writers, including Dawn DeKeyser, who wrote one of my favorite episodes, Zero Worship. If I missed any more, let me know.

So, do you have a favorite Ugly Betty writer? I think they are all wonderful, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Sheila Lawrence. I mean, she wrote my favorite episodes from season 1 and 3 (so far), and the episode with “Tap That” in it.

Here is the press release for the Ugly Betty Season 3 finale (which is two episodes back-to-back). 3.23 is entitled “Curveball”,and 3.24 is “The Fall Issue”.
Fair warning: the synopses are quite spoiler-ish about things that will happen in the next two episodes, so turn ye back, all who are spoiler-averse! You have been warned.
The synopses:
Ugly Betty” concludes the season with a shocking two-hour telecast, THURSDAY, MAY 21 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. In the first hour, entitled “Curveball” (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), just as Betty agrees to move in with Matt, Henry (guest star Christopher Gorham) [...]
Post from: Ugly Betty News

Fair warning: the synopses are quite spoiler-ish about things that will happen in the next two episodes, so turn ye back, all who are spoiler-averse! You have been warned.

The synopses:

Ugly Betty” concludes the season with a shocking two-hour telecast, THURSDAY, MAY 21 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. In the first hour, entitled “Curveball” (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), just as Betty agrees to move in with Matt, Henry (guest star Christopher Gorham) pays a visit to NYC, forcing Betty to admit she still has feelings for her former fiance. Meanwhile, Betty and Marc wait to see if their YETI editor interviews resulted in actual jobs; Daniel’s transformation from playboy to devoted husband makes him a media darling; and Wilhelmina cozies up to Victoria Hartley to find out just what kind of connection Claire Meade has to Cal Hartley.

In “The Fall Issue” (9:00-10:00 p.m.), the sudden death of a Mode editor leaves Betty and Marc competing for the same job. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina demands that Claire tender her resignation at a big awards ceremony . . . or she’ll reveal Claire’s dark secret to Cal Hartley; Matt lets his jealousy over Henry get the best of him; and Justin nervously waits to see if he got into performing arts school.

Pardon my quoting the promos for last season’s finale, but…

OMG.

OK, first, about Claire and the Hartleys. I haven’t even had a chance to post about this yet, but apparently ABC execs stopped a story line about a supposed affair between Claire and Victoria from making it to the air. At least that’s the story. I’m not so sure, though. These hints sure make it seem like it might be “the deep, dark secret” after all.

So, Betty and Matt plan to move in together. Second verse, same as the first. I wonder how Ignacio will react to that one. He didn’t do so well the first time with Henry. I seriously doubt the extra zeros in the bank account will make much difference. (Speaking as a father)

Henry’s storyline will last at least these two episodes, it seems. I don’t know if he’s actually IN both episodes (he isn’t listed in the guest star list of either one – only in the synopsis of “Curveball”).

You guys were right – it’s an unknown, unseen editor who falls to his/her death in “The Fall Issue”. As much as I like Marc, I’d say the odds are pretty good that Betty gets the editor job. THAT will be awesome.

I can’t tell you how weird that feels, reading “Daniel’s transformation from playboy to devoted husband…” That storyline will provide this year’s “Santos gets shot” moment that was just plain missing from last season’s finale. No matter what you think of Molly,I’d advise an extra box of tissues.

AND, Justin had better get into performing arts school. We could have some real “Fame” moments next season.

For what it’s worth, Silvio Horta wrote “The Fall Issue” himself.

This is going to be the finale we were hoping to have last season, I think.

After yesterday’s wonderful news about Ugly Betty’s early return to the air, ABC has released the title and synopses for episodes 3.20 and 3.21 . We already knew that 3.20 would be entitled “Rabbit Test”. Here is the synopsis for 3.20:
The Suarez family gets an invitation to meet Matt’s famed billionaire dad, Calvin Hartley (guest star David Rasche), at his legendary Easter Egg hunt. While Betty sees this as a chance to get closer to Matt, Daniel seizes the opportunity to get Mode a bailout. Meanwhile Wilhelmina suspects that little William might not be her biological son.

We’ll see, but I think this means that it will be Calvin Hartley who makes Daniel get into the bunny suit. Score one for Ugly Betty News commenter Sir Lizard!

Also, the story line involving Wilhelmina’s baby is going to get really moving along. Important to note: Stuart (Derek Riddell) is in this episode (yes, he’s still alive), along with Dr. Erskine.

The episode was written by Chris Black (3.09, When Betty Met YETI) and directed by Richard Heus (3.18, A Mother of a Problem).

Info on episode 3.21 after the jump!

The title of episode 3.21 (airing May 7th) will be “The Born identity”. Here’s the synopsis:

Just as it looks like billionaire Calvin Hartley (guest star David Rasche) is going to give Mode the bailout it needs so the magazine won’t go under, baby William is kidnapped – and Betty is dragged into the ensuing drama. Meanwhile Archie (guest star Ralph Macchio) asks Hilda to be part of his latest political campaign.

So, the kidnapping does happen. This is how Christina will exit, apparently. Stuart is in this episode, so we know he’ll be heavily involved.

And, of course, we have the return of Archie. I love how they are going to get Hilda involved in Archie’s political life. Including Ana Ortiz’s pregnancy in the story line really wasn’t an option because the timing was all wrong, but this is the next best thing!

The Born Identity was written by Steven Ross (3.04, Betty Suarez Land) and directed by John Terlesky (3.08, Tornado Girl).

I can’t wait for these episodes to air!

ABC is bringing back Ugly Betty from hiatus a week earlier than planned. It will return to the air (I’m assuming with a NEW episode – 3.20, Rabbit Test) on April 30th at 8/7c.
Woot.
The two replacement comedies, In The Motherhood and Samantha Who?, were not pulling very good ratings. Last week, for example, “Motherhood” averaged just a 1.4 rating and 5 share in the adults 18-49 demo, while “Samantha” posted a 1.5/5. Things were so bad, the shows threatened to hurt Grey’s Anatomy. Now THAT’s bad.

But, bad news for the replacement shows is good new for Betty fans. Now, we have to reset our countdown clocks. Remember, Betty returns to the air on April 30th! Woohoo!

EW’s Ausiello has a couple of Ugly Betty spoilers today. First, in his Ask Ausiello column, comes this little tidbit:
Now, the bad news: Daniel is going to have to sell his soul to bail out Meade. And by sell I mean dress up in a bunny costume at the behest of some rich tycoon named Hartley. Oh, how the boring mighty have fallen.
Does that last sentence mean we can count Ausiello amongst those who are tired of the Daniel / Molly pairing? Although, I don’t think Daniel himself has been boring; it’s been interesting watching him grow. But, the [...]
Post from: Ugly Betty News

Now, the bad news: Daniel is going to have to sell his soul to bail out Meade. And by sell I mean dress up in a bunny costume at the behest of some rich tycoon named Hartley. Oh, how the <del>boring</del> mighty have fallen.

Does that last sentence mean we can count Ausiello amongst those who are tired of the Daniel / Molly pairing? Although, I don’t think Daniel himself has been boring; it’s been interesting watching him grow. But, the writers seemed to have been biding their time till they can get to a good dying scene during May sweeps.

Anyway, at first I wondered if the bunny costume was figurative, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be literal. That leaves two questions:

1) I wonder how much the scene in question will mirror Betty’s humiliation scene during the photo shoot in the series pilot?

2) Which Hartley will it be? Victoria, Matt’s dad, or Matt himself? (Matt would be highly unlikely, though). OK, I’ll add a third:

3) If it’s Victoria, will the bunny suit be part of some weird … uh … situation? Don’t laugh – remember the “furry” episode on CSI Mothership ?

I digress. Speaking of Matt’s dad, in a casting scoop post from Ausiello, we find out who was cast in the role. It’s David Rasche, who is a veteran of many shows, including L.A. Law, Suddenly Susan, All My Children and many others. Ausiello describes the role as “Branson-esque”. As in Richard Branson of Virgin, well, everything.

So, if Matt’s dad, Cal, is a jet-setting, adventure-loving entrepreneur, and since Victoria has already shown a cruel streak, we pretty much can guess which Hartley will make Daniel get his bunny on.

Interesting things to ponder during the hiatus…

Well, this is fantastic news, indeed! According to SitcomsOnline.com, Ugly Betty will return from hiatus (after this week’s episode 3.19 – The Sex Issue), on May 7! I guess this means that all of Michael Ausiello’s speculation about the show running in June was…just that.
According to the site, ABC also announced that the show will have a two hour finale on May 21. We’ve been waiting for an Ugly Betty two hour premiere or finale since season 1, and it looks like they’re finally going to give it to us!

According to the site, ABC also announced that the show will have a two hour finale on May 21. We’ve been waiting for an Ugly Betty two hour premiere or finale since season 1, and it looks like they’re finally going to give it to us!

In the story, writer Pavan wonders whether ABC will air one episode on another night because there are 5 episodes left in the season. I’m not so sure. I’m pretty sure a full season is 23 episodes (at least season 1 was 23 episodes), and this week is number 19. That leaves four after that. But then again, by my count there are only 3 weeks in which to air new episodes, so maybe Pavan has the right idea/wrong number…

Regardless, this is great, great news! Having the show air during May sweeps, ending with a two-hour finale, will be a great shot in the arm for the show! This means that episode 3.22 will have to be a doozy to get interest whipped up for the finale (no more Lindsay Lohan gimmicks!).

Please, please, please let Brian Tanen lead the writing on the finale…

Of course, the usual disclaimers apply. Until I see video of some guy with a power tie and an ABC/Disney name tag make the announcement, we have to refrain from doing the happy dance. (Not to doubt SO – this is our policy with all scoop sources) But, I DO believe it – so I’m going to bounce up and down just a little.
