America Ferrera, Mark Indelicato, Ana Ortiz, Tony Plana, and Michael Urie will all attend the Point Foundation’s Point Honors…New York gala on Monday, April 27, 2009.  Also attending, and performing is Vanessa Williams.

The Point Foundation is the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students of merit.  They are honoring Silvio Horta with the Point Courage Award.  Also, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) will receive the Point Inspiration Award; and the inaugural Point Legend Award will be presented to play writer, librettist, screen writer, novelist and director, Arthur Laurents (Gypsy, West Side Story).

Also attending will be a plethora of Broadway talent:  Craig Bierko (Guys & Dolls), Curtis Holbrook (West Side Story), Angela Lansbury (Blithe Spirit), Karen Olivo (West Side Story), Thomas Roberts (CNN), John Tartaglia (Avenue Q, Shrek the Musical), and Leslie Uggams.  Also performing are West Side Story” stars Matthew Cavenaugh & Josephina Scaglione.

So, it must be about time for the baby shower.  And guess who’s hosting it?  Not America Ferrera.  Not new mom Rebecca Romijn.  Not Meade Mom Judith Light.  Oh, no doubt they’ll be there.  But this shindig is going to be hosted by Ugly Betty costume designer Patricia Field.

“She told me, ‘I’m going to throw you a baby shower,’ and I started crying,” the 38-year-old recently told OK Magazine.

“That’s how the whole show is — very much a family atmosphere!” The Ugly Betty cast and crew will be joining the celebration at Patricia’s loft for what Ana expects will be a “pretty awesome” affair.

“As long as I don’t have to play those corny games where they wrap me in toilet paper,” she says, “and I’m there with my friends and having a group of drunk people celebrating babies!”

Really?  Wrap the mother to be in toilet paper?  Is this the sort of thing they do a baby showers these days? 

Drunk people celebrating babies – now that’s something I can relate to!

Of course, the fact that he’s a “romantic entanglement” at all means that the producers of the show must have changed their minds about Betty concentrating on work and growing up a little. I guess Silvio Horta could say he had this in mind all along, but it’s such a drastic change, I doubt it.

But, regardless, we now have this character, Matt. As some of you have said, he’s good looking in a non-threatening way. Like Henry, he seems to have a certain innocence and goodness about him, and like Gio, he’s doesn’t let Betty get away with “her crap” (as one of you said) – he’s not afraid to put Betty in her place.

In fact, Matt is so much a morph between Betty’s former lovers, I’m half tempted to call him “Henrio”.

I have to say, I like this character, I like the way Gold is playing him, and I like his enthusiasm. I also like the fact that he works at a sports magazine, bringing a little youthful masculinity to the show that’s been missing since the departures of Henry and Gio. (Yeah, Connor oozes masculinity, but he’s not long for the show, I am guessing).

So, I may be opening a can of worms, but I’ll ask: what do you think of Matt? I know many of you want your own favorite characters back, but it looks like Matt is the Man of the Moment. Do you like him? Or is he a little too squirrelly? Are you hoping he sticks around?

Question: Is it true that Eric Mabius is refusing to follow Ugly Betty to New York next season? — Kendall
Ausiello: Not true at all. Mabius will definitely be making the trek. Can’t say the same for one of his co-stars. This unnamed individual, who just purchased a new home in L.A., is showing some resistance to the move. As a result, this series regular may only make occasional guest appearances next season. Meanwhile, another Betty thesp is using the coast-hop as leverage for more money — and it’s the last person you’d think.

OK, just to make sure we’re all together on this, there are three separate people discussed here.

• First, Ausiello lets us know that all is well with Eric Mabius. (Silvio told us that yesterday as well). This is interesting, because HE’S the one with a baby and one on the way.
• Next, comes the unnamed regular who just bought a house and may only make guest appearances next year.
• Finally, a cast member is using the move to ask for more money (and who wouldn’t?) Of course, Ausiello is coy about who it might be.

My guess? I think the regular who will be dropping to a co-star could be Ashley Jensen Or Ana Ortiz. I know there has been news of America Ferrera buying a house in LA, but come on! I know Becki Newton and Michael Urie live very close to one another, but I thought they were condo owners. I would imagine the two older cast members (Tony Plana and Judith Light) are already established in houses. Mark Indelicato is too young. Maybe some of you with insight into the Los Angeles real estate market could chime in.

The one asking for more money? My guess is Mark Indelicato. He makes $460K (and sees a $50 a week allowance). Although that money would go a long way in my neck of the woods, I would imagine that setting up residence in NYC would take a huge chunk out of that.

After Silvio Horta had put to bed any idea of a Linsday Lohan appearance on Ugly Betty this season, this morning our friend Ausiello at TV Guide has a bombshell: Lohan is in advanced talks to appear in the season 2 finale. Ausiello’s tone makes it sound like it’s almost a given. Wow.

But, then, the news gets even more shocking. Lohan is in talks to appear on the show in a story arc next year. NOT the three-episode arc we’ve heard about, but possibly up to eight episodes!!! Holy cow.

Apparently, she’ll still play the “hapless fast-food worker” character we’ve previously heard about (although this has yet to be finalized). To be honest, if she can keep her act together, this could be nothing but good for both her and Ugly Betty.

Just look at what Britney Spears‘ appearance did for How I Met Your Mother. The only difference is, Lohan can really act.

I wonder how she’ll do amongst the workaholics that make up the Ugly Betty cast. Maybe they’ll be a good influence on Lindsay?
