There IS Ugly Betty news to report, besides the benching. In the Ask Ausiello report mentioned in my previous post, we hear a little more spoiler-ish news about Betty’s new love interest. (Remember that?).

As we’ve reported, his name will be Matt, Betty will meet him at YETI, and he’ll be nerdy-hunky like Henry. Matt will be played by tastefully 3-named Daniel Eric Gold. He will make his first appearance on February 19th. Ausiello says, “Word is the YETI hottie is concealing a major secret, and it’s not that he’s loaded (although he isn’t terribly forthcoming about that bit, either).”

OK, let me say this right now: if Matt is married, or has a girlfriend that’s having a baby, or is the long-lost son of any of the characters of the show, I swear I’m going to walk to Silvio Horta’s house and kick his dog.*

I know many of you roll your eyes at the thought of another love interest for Betty, and many of you think it will spark new interest in the show if it’s handled well. I tend to be in the latter category. It’s become obvious that Ugly Betty is not going to become the Mary Tyler Moore show, after all. YETI is part of the show, but it really isn’t going to be the focus. A romance, done differently from the previous 3 or 4 (remember Walter?) would add a little spark.

Anyway, starting February 19th, we’ll see what the Ugly Betty writers are up to, romatically!

*NOTE – I wouldn’t really kick Silvio Horta’s dog. It’s an expression we use in my part of the country to relay strong feeling. No animals were harmed in the creation of this post.

The episode begins with a montage of the empty Suarez house, Ignacio waking up in the hospital and seeing his family, Daniel and Molly on vacation at the beach, Wilhelmina and Connor getting it on in a hot tub, and finally, a weakened Ignacio coming home.

He coughs, and the family comes running to help him. They worry because he just had a quadruple bypass. They are trying to keep him away from all stress. Betty and Hilda argue about his care, but not in front of him.

They are worried about paying bills and taking care of Papi. Betty makes a list for Hilda to follow while Betty is at work. She also left post – it notes everywhere. Hilda tells her she can handle it, and sends her out.

Betty stops by her apartment and sees that Amanda has let it become an absolute mess. Amanda hugs her, mistakenly thinking that Betty was the one who had a heart attack. Betty corrects her and wonders why Amanda had not done any cleaning (no answer). Betty looks at a large stack of bills she has to pay. Amanda tells Betty they have cockroaches, and that she has started naming them.

Daniel and Molly are looking over their vacation pictures on Daniel’s Blackberry. They talk about how they ran into “Heidi and Spencer” everywhere they went. Daniel shows her a slide show, and a pic of Daniel and Connor comes up, causing them both an uncomfortable moment. They discuss how they will eventually let Connor know about “them”.

Betty comes back to work, which has really piled up. Daniel gives her a cd with his vacation photos on it and asks her to take them to the lab. They are interrupted by Wilhelmina, who gives her an envelope containing the cover photos of the Halston dress, asking her to leak them to the press.

Daniel notices Wilhelmina’s “goggle tan” and guesses she had been skiing. Wilhelmina notices Daniel’s tan and guesses he went to the beach. Connor then walks up with an identical goggle-tan.

Wilhelmina goes to speak to Connor about some ad meetings, but of course, they start kissing heavily. She tells him that they have to control themselves. She gives him something to conceal his tan (made of panda-something), and then notices she’s in the men’s room with him. Marc sees them leaving the men’s room together. He zips up her dress (which she didn’t know was unzipped).

Betty is on the phone with Justin, asking if Hilda had taken Papi to see “Dr. Steve”. Justin tells her that Hilda had landed a big haircutting job to cut a lot of teeneage girl’s hair; this upsets Betty. As she is talking (now to Hilda), Betty is putting things into envelopes without looking.

She looks and sees Claire holding Daniel’s vacation pics CD, and grabs it from her. She then puts it in one of the envelopes. Claire tells her about her vacation to France, spending time with Alexis and DJ. She also offers to set up Ignacio with one of the best cardiologists in the city, free of charge.

Betty comes home to tell the family the good news. Hilda says that she talked to Dr Steve on the phone, who said Papi just had a cold. Betty insists that Ignacio go see Claire’s doctor. They go to another room to argue of Ignacio’s care. Hilda calls her “Betty Bossy Pants”. Betty tells her she will take Ignacio to the doctor herself.

Betty takes Ignacio to Dr. Farber’s very COLD office. He orders a bunch of tests for Papi. He then rushes out to see the next patient.

Connor congratulates Wilhelmina on her keen negotiating skills with their latest client, getting a bigger ad buy. She challenges him to do the same with the next clients. They then get excited and go at it again.

Marc walks by the elevator and sees that the next client has arrived (early). They demand to see Wilhelmina. Marc takes them there, but notices when he looks in the porthole of her door that she and Connor are…indisposed. He tries to distract them.

Amanda calls Betty (who is still at the hospital with her dad) and tells her that the photo lab guy called and said she sent her phone bill to him. This is when Betty realizes that she sent Daniel’s photos to Suzuki St. Pierre. Betty asks Amanda to track down the letters.

Wilhelmina approaches Marc and tells him to throw whoever is in the conference room out so she can have her meeting with the clients. Marc informs her that they had already come and gone. He explained that he couldn’t have just interrupted her while she was “snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef”. Wilhelmina says all she will have to do is get on the phone with them and everything will be OK.

Daniel finds out about his pictures and totally freaks out. He then reveals his secret about Molly. He tells her she HAS to get the photos back NOW. She tries to tell her dad that she has to leave, but the nurse won’t let her go in, and says he’ll be in there another 4 hours. So, Betty leaves.

She goes to see Suzuki, who absolutely refuses to help her, because it is such a sexy story.

Amanda goes through the Closet, stealing clothes, when Marc grabs her, covering her mouth, and pulls her away quickly. We then see she almost ran right into Connor and Wilhelmina, going at it again! Amanda puts 2 and 2 together, but Marc makes her swear not to say anything to anyone.

Betty runs in and asks for their help. She wants to bribe Suzuki, but Marc and Amanda say that blackmail will be much more effective. They say his “ex” works at Meade. Later, they catch him on the street, but he doesn’t want to talk. Amanda threatens to tell everyone he has “ambiguous genetalia”. He writes down an address in New Jersey, but will say nothing more.

Daniel and Betty go to Jersey, and Betty lies to Hilda on the phone, telling her that she’s still at the hospital. Daniel notices the mail in the mailbox is for “Byron Woo”. As they are standing in front of the fine suburban home, a minivan pulls up. Out walks a mom, 2 kids, and Byron Woo, who is really Suzuki, looking quite the straight suburbanite.

He explains, while grilling brats, that he became Suzuki because he couldn’t get a hard-hitting jounalist job, but could get a lot more interest in a “fabulous, bitchy queen”. They convince him to return the photos (but Betty swears it isn’t blackmail)

As tehy are readying for their meeting with the clients, Wilhelmina asks Connor to flirt with the female they will be seeing. As they talk about this, they get “that look” and leave to go at it AGAIN. Marc is in the conference room with the clients, waiting for Connor and Wilhelmina. They are growing impatient, so Marc takes matters into his own hands and starts making the pitch himself. They are impressed with him.

Betty returns to the hospital, only to find that her father has already left. She calls Hilda about this, and they both freak out.

Connor and Wilhelmina walk into the meeting where Marc is making his brilliant pitch, and she calls him out for not coming to get her. She threatens to fire him, and sends him away.

Betty and Hilda are frantically looking for Papi, and they run into Dr. Farbner, who tells this that Ignacio’s tests came back normal. Now, they just have to find him.

Hilda finally blows up at Betty (because the Dr visit was needless). They argue over their division of care, the fact that Betty tries to control everything, and the fact that Betty wasn’t there when Ignacio had his heart attack. They end the conversation in tears, and Justin calls to tell thim that Ignacio is at home.

Later, Ignacio tells the girls that he’s onto them, and that he’s decided to hire a nurse.

Late at night, Betty walks in as Hilda is cleaning her shop, and they make up while Hilda trims her hair.

Wilhelmina congratulates Marc on his work with the client, and gives him an expensive gift. Marc tells her that she had treated him awfully and humiliated him. Wilhelmina reminds him that getting thrown under the bus to make her look good is part of his job. He walks away, beaten down.

Daniel sees Molly on the street, who points out to him that she was accidentally caught in the background of a tabloid photo on their vacation. She is holding hands with an unseen man in the photo. In the next scene Connor sees this.

Wilhelmina sends Marc to an ad meeting in her place as a peace offering.

At her apartment, Betty looks out the window as Amanda goes through all the bills they have to pay. Betty tells Amanda that she has to tell her something. Amanda guesses that Betty is going to move back home, because her family needs her, and she’s “good like that”.

3.14 is entitled, “The Courtship of Betty’s Father”. Most of you probably don’t get the humor in the title, I would imagine. In 1963 there was a movie, and in 1969-1972 a television series entitled “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father”. The TV show (which I actually remember) starred the late Bill Bixby.

Anyway, my best guess is that Ignacio is going to live and be relatively healthy, and I foresee a relationship with his nurse (played by Dexter costar Lauren Velez).

If I’m guessing right, I like this idea, as long as they don’t kill her off or make her a whack-job. I’d like to see Ignacio get a little romantic happiness, and it’ll also mean (hopefully) that Betty won’t have to move back home. We’ll see.

3.15 is entitled “There’s No Place Like Mode”. I really have no guess at all what this title means. Sometimes, those episodes (like Zero Worship), are the best of all.

Most of the spoiler news about Ugly Betty lately has been surrounded around Betty and her family. Refreshingly, EW’s Michael Ausiello has an interesting little tidbit about Marc:

Question: We haven’t had Ugly Betty scoop in forever! What’s next? — Sidra
Ausiello: Marc’s getting a new roommate…But the show isn’t adding any new cast-members.

Hmmm – the possibilities are intriguing.

The obvious one would be the return of David Blue as Cliff. No doubt Michael Urie and Blue were great together, in an odd-couple sort of way. This is the possibility I am wishing for the most. However, when we last saw Cliff, he was leaving Marc in tears. Can they put that Genie back in the bottle?

Who else might it be?

• Wilhelmina? – Maybe, but aren’t they together a little too much already? It would be interesting to see a topical storyline where Willy gets caught up in the mortgage crisis.
• Daniel? – Has the possibility of being funny, but way too gimmicky for my tastes.
• Christina? – Just can’t make any sense out of that one.
• Amanda? – This one is the most likely possibility. If Betty does move back in with her family (please, no!), Amanda will have nowhere to go. Could the writers be setting up a Marc and Mandy spin-off?

Anyway, like I said, the possibilities are very intriguing. What do you think?

According to a press release from ABC, Ugly Betty episode 3.13 will be entitled Kissed Off. It looks like it’s going to be one of those pivotal episodes. Here’s the synopsis:

Betty contemplates making a personal decision to help her family and finances. But things keep sidetracking her – like the fact that sexy neighbor Jesse (guest star Val Emmich) is suddenly interested in her again. Meanwhile, Daniel tries to hide his tracks as Connor is determined to find out the identity of the mystery man who stole Molly’s heart.

So, talk about conflict. Betty seems to be ready to move back home to help her family after Ignacio’s heart attack, but then Jesse throws her a curve by being interested in her. (I find the “again” to be questionable – he has been overly friendly, and didn’t spurn Betty’s obvious crush, but I never got the impression he was “interested”. That’s from a guy’s POV, though.)

I guess we finally have the answer as to whether or not Val Emmich will be back on the show.

The Molly/Connor/Daniel thing looks interesting from this perspective: it doesn’t mention a Connor relationship with Wilhelmina. I don’t know what that means, but obviously Connor is not yet over Molly, and SHE was the one who broke it off.

When this story line is over, I could almost guarantee you Connor will no longer be at Mode.

I hope circumstances occur that allow Betty to keep her apartment. It gives the show a totally different feel from seasons 1 & 2, and there is still plenty of opportunity for interaction at the Suarez house. But then again, I love the fact that Betty is staying true to character, and putting family first.

This episode airs January 22. So, here’s the schedule as of right now:

• January 8: Episode 3.11, Dress for Success
• January 15: Episode 3.12, Sisters on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
• January 22: Episode 3.13, Kissed Off

It’s wonderful to have episodes to talk about again!

Betty finds herself competing with Kimmie (guest star Lindsay Lohan) who finally shows her true colors, and new citizen Ignacio prepares to vote for the first time. Meanwhile Hilda takes advantage of the increased election traffic to promote her shop, and Wilhelmina wants to hire a new financial officer (guest star Grant Bowler) whom Daniel can’t stand.

This will prove to be a doozy. Can’t wait to see Betty “knock her down” !

America looks kind of grandma-ish in this outfit. Well, except for the skull and crossbones. Overall, it’s not as bad as some other recent outfits we’ve seen, except for the frumpiness.

Becki Newton picks up where Vanessa Williams left off wearing fur (or at the very least, something furry). Her coat, which isn’t particularly long, comes down below her skirt, for what it’s worth. Not that I’m complaining.

It’s really hard from these pics to tell exactly what’s going on in the scene they are filming; most of these shots appear to be between takes. Perhaps Betty is trying to get Amanda out of her apartment? They certainly won’t be roommates for long.

Anyway, the photos have piqued my interest in some of the upcoming episodes.

EW’s Ausiello has a little spoiler-ish review of the first two episodes of season 3 of Ugly Betty:

Question: Any major scoop on Ugly Betty? — Mitchell
Ausiello: This just in: The show’s first two episodes don’t suck. Far from it, in fact. After last May’s disappointing finale, and news of further behind-the-scenes changes, I feared the worst was yet to come for Betty. But I’m relieved to report that tomorrow’s season premiere, and next week’s second episode, are home runs. My favorite moments: Betty’s initial run-in with new love interest Val Emmich (click here for America Ferrera’s take on Betty’s new beau); Amanda and Marc’s reaction upon meeting Eddie Cibrian for the first time; every word that comes out of Ana Ortiz’s comically blessed mouth; and the look on Betty’s face as she attempts to inject Botox into Wilhelmina’s face. I should also point out that by the end of the next week’s eppy, the fate of a pivotal character hangs in the balance.

This isn’t heavily spoiler-filled (we roughly knew most of these things would happen), but there are some details that are intriguing.

Amanda and Marc’s reaction when they meet Coach Diaz is going to be hilarious! I wonder which one will drool more.

Ausiello calls Val Emmich “Betty’s new beau”. Oh, well. I was kind of hoping Betty wouldn’t jump right into another relationship, no matter how cute Emmich is. But, maybe the writers will handle this one differently, or maybe Ausiello is yanking our chain.

Betty giving Wilhelmina botox injections (HA!) will most likely be in episode 3.02 (Filing For the Enemy). Dang, that’s going to be funny.

And, I’m guessing the teaser at the end (fate of a character in the balance) is either Alexis, Stuart, or DJ. My guess is Alexis. That would fit in the the mysterious spoilers posted earlier in the summer by EOnline’s Kristin.

I have a couple of questions about this. First off, Henry is apparently going to be in this scene. There has been discussion about whether or not this is actually Christopher Gorham, or a double (if the scene is a quick flashback, it’s possible they used a double). I have no reason to think it’s NOT CG, though, and I’m going to see if I can get to the bottom of this in the next few days. Part of my problem is that, although there are pics (which you’ll see after the jump), the ones available to me do not include Gorham. I know that one or two exist out there, though. Stay tuned.

The other thing is more mysterious. What are they doing here? Why shoot another version of the scene? Although, I guess it COULD be a new softball game. But, that doesn’t seem likely.

I see three major possibilities for this scene:

• This could be a flashback. I’ve been combing through the old photos, trying to figure out if Alec Mapa is wearing the same thing he wore in Jump. If not, then a flashback wouldn’t make sense. Plus, Betty is wearing a strange diamond-encrusted belt buckle (shown in some of the photos out there) that I don’t remember from 2.18.
• This could be a present-day dream. Maybe Betty is having a dream or vision, reliving the softball game with new perspective? None of the OTHER actors (Urie, Williams, Newton, Mabius) appear to be in the scene.
• Or – Silvio Horta could be pulling a “Newhart” on us. What if everything that happened after the softball beaned Betty was a dream? I surely hope not. Please, please, please don’t do this, Ugly Betty producers!

One thing for sure, Freddy Rodriguez is in this scene.

Anyway, this makes for interesting speculation. I’ve got lots of pics after the jump – and Benry fans, I promise you, if I come across photos of Chris Gorham in this scene (that I’m allowed to use) I PROMISE, I’ll post them.

(So, what the heck is “D&G” or “DeG”?) Was Betty wearing this in 2.18?)
