America Ferrera Dazzles With Makeup and Without

It’s interesting – there is a lot of talk going on about America Ferrera’s makeup, or lack of it. The Ugly Betty star is a hit either way.

As you know, Ferrera dazzled on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Part of her fabulous look was due to the work of makeup artist Vanessa Scali, who used Lancome products on Ferrera to complete her look. She used She used Lancôme CILS Booster XL (super-enhancing mascara base) and High Definicils High Definition Mascara with Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner in Noir, and used the Color Design Artist Palettes in Couture Warms and Stylish Neutrals for the eyes and on the lips she used Le Lipstiquein Rasinberry and Color Fever Gloss in On Fire.

Then we have this interesting item: apparently on Monday, after a night of SAG partying, America had the audacity to go to lunch with friends sans makeup.

Many have commented on this, and my favorite take was the one taken by OSoYou: they juxtoposed an ordinary, confident Ferrera with an overdone Paris Hilton getting off a plane. Give me America any day.

Although, and I know this is heresy, but maybe what Ferrera wears to Wendy’s for lunch with her friends is her business. Is there ever a time when a Hollywood celebrity can be “off the clock”?

Video: Bearded Mabius At SAG Awards

Ugly Betty’s Eric Mabius has been growing a strike beard, apparently. Here is a video of TVGuide’s Lisa Rinna and Joey Fatone interviewing Mabius and his beautiful wife, Ivy, on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards:

Mabius takes time to give some props to the writers of the show – a classy touch, and a smart one. They have really written his character with much more depth and sympathetic qualities. Mabius also mentions his son and his short attention span. I think it’s funny that Mabius called the awards show their “date night”.

Ana Ortiz At SAG Awards

Continuing the Ugly Betty at the Screen Actors Guild caravan, here is Ana Ortiz (Hilda). She looks absolutely beautiful in this body-hugging number. The flared-out bottom adds oodles of class.

Ortiz has been taking advice from Vanessa Williams, I see. She has that red carpet walk down pat now; Ana looks perfectly natural out there.

And I LOVE the blingage; because the ring and earrings demand enough attention, Ortiz smartly avoided over-doing it with a necklace.

Becki Newton at SAG Awards

Ugly Betty’s Becki Newton was dazzling on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Jan. 27th. This beautiful dress more than made up for the mermaid dress she wore at the Emmys.

I would swear, from that first photo, Ms Newton has a striking resemblance to a young Farrah Fawcett. Trust me, I had that poster on my wall in 9th grade, I know what I’m talking about.

Vanessa Williams at SAG Awards

I absolutely adored Vanessa Williams’ sleek, classy look at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Few people can get by with yellow, but Vanessa pulls it off nicely in this Escada dress.

Now, some mentioned Vanessa’s tan lines ruining the look. Pah! I love them!

Ugly Betty Shut Out In SAG Awards

Ugly Betty was well represented at last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild awards, with nominations for America Ferrera for best Actress in a Comedy Series, and the entire cast for Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Unfortunately, Ferrera did not win; that honor went to Tina Fey (30 Rock). Also, the cast lost out to the cast of The Office (although I cheer for Ugly Betty, The Office cast deserves recognition).

Male Actor in a Drama Series: James Gandolfini (Sopranos)
Female Actor in a Drama Series: Edie Falco (Sopranos)
Male Actor in a Comedy Series: Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)

Ugly Betty Racks Up The SAG Award Noms

Congratulations to the entire cast of Ugly Betty for receiving a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. This is much deserved, the entire cast should get more recognition as a group.

Also receiving nominations are America Ferrera AND Vanessa Williams for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. Vanessa Williams SO deserves this award; she has been snubbed many times the during last couple of years, and she gives the show such a pizazz that it just wouldn’t have the same feel without her.

Of course, that’s not top say America Ferrera doesn’t deserve another award; she is the heart and sould of Ugly Betty. But, since we’re forced to choose between them, I’d like to see Williams get the award.

The other nominees for female actress in a comedy series:

CHRISTINA APPLEGATE / Samantha Newly – “Samantha Who?” (ABC)
TINA FEY / Liz Lemon – “30 Rock” (NBC)
MARY-LOUISE PARKER / Nancy Botwin – “Weeds” (Showtime)

A good field, indeed. Tina Fey is the woman of the moment, it seems, so she’s probably the favorite. The other nominees for ensemble cast in a comedy series:

30 ROCK (NBC)
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (ABC)
ENTOURAGE (HBO)
THE OFFICE (NBC)

If the SAGs follow the Golden Globes, Entourage will probably get the nod (there seems to be a huge cable bias this year), but the real money is probably on 30 Rock (see Tina Fey, above). I still have my fingers crossed for Ugly Betty, however.
