America looks GREAT, and she’s really got this red carpet thing down (thanks to time and Vanessa Williams).  America is wearing a black Moshino safety pin-embellished crepe dress paired with gold peep-toes.

Speaking of Vanessa:

The lady can still bring it in this LBD.  Check out the two-toned shoes!

Becki Newton was there.  She wears this ruffled Prabal Gurung Fall 2009 sleeveless top and striped tulip skirt well, although with my agricultural ancestry,I have an overwhelming urge to get clippers and shear her.

Congratulations to America Ferrera and the Ugly Betty cast for supporting such a wonderful cause.

Some of the captions for these photos describe Williams’ appearance as a “surprise appearance”, but I can find nothing in the news that could explain what that means.

All I know is that Vanessa has never looked finer. Although I prefer her hair down (and I really prefer the extensions she wears on Ugly Betty), the pinned-up looked is highly appropriate here.

Williams attended, along with Mark Indelicato (wait till you see THOSE pics!) Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, Blythe Danner, and many other notables.

I’ll agree with the commeters who have said that something is not quite happening with the dress. From the waist up? Gorgeous. The bottom half would have been good, too, had the dress been floor-length. There’s just something…I don’t know…poofy about it as it was.

That being said, America’s hair and makeup was absolutely beautiful. In fact, it might be the prettiest I’ve ever seen Ferrera “made up”.

It’s a shame that Ferrera didn’t win Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for her work in Ugly Betty, but really, we expected it. The Academy is in love with Tina Fey.

From the beautiful, classy, extra-long strapless dress, to the blingage to the perfect makeup – Jensen was nothing less than the classiest lady on the red carpet.

Hopefully, one day, she’ll win for her work with Ugly Betty, which I think is underrated (Vanessa Williams and Becki Newton get more screen time, so they are usually first in line for Supporting Actress nominations).

Here are photos of the lovely Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams on the red carpet at last night’s TVLand Awards. It was good to see she brought her beautiful daughter, giving her a glimpse of our TV heritage.

I’ve rarely seen Vanessa in black, but man, that color looks good on her. It must have been a little hot during arrivals, but Williams is a pro, and seems to handle all situations with grace.

In only one of the pics can you notice the Spanx. I wonder if other celebrities like her spilling the beans about how most everyone in Hollywood needs a little help to look perfect.

Williams is always a cool and gracious host – I am surprised she isn’t used in this capacity more often, but Hollywood is a young person’s town, they always say. But, there’s no denying that Williams is a bigger star now than she’s ever been.

Ugly Betty’s bad girl Vanessa Williams recently attended the March Of Dimes 33rd Annual Beauty Ball held at Cipriani 42nd Street in NYC. While on the red carpet, she spoke to OK magazine about her dress and about her beauty secrets (no, not THAT one*).

About the Vera Wang Dress: “Loved the color, loved the shape, loved the back,” she says. “A lot of the stuff this season is unconstructed, so this had a little bit of support, which is important. It’s really comfortable, so I don’t have to wear my Spanx and I’m loving it.”

Her candor about shapewear many times takes interviewers off guard. Spankx? “Of course! Doesn’t everyone? Especially when you’re wearing skin-tight stuff. I wear them on the [Ugly Betty] set all the time just to keep things pulled up and tight.”

That aside, I have to agree with her. This dress is simply fabulous. There’s a touch of Greek Goddess in earth tones to it, and it fits her perfectly.

As far as makeup goes, Vanessa says it’s all about the foundation. “No matter how well you do your makeup, if you see a big line and you see where it ends and begins, what’s the point?”

Williams chooses Laura Mercier foundation.

“My undertone is yellow. For me, I know what numbers I use and stuff, but it’s consistent enough that it gives you coverage and light enough that you don’t feel like you’re wearing a mask. The colors are beautiful. She does a great job. She did my face a couple times, but her line is fantastic.”

Vanessa ALWAYS looks perfect in makeup, so I’d say she’s got it down pat.

Vera Wang was quite pleased that Williams chose to wear this dress. “She’s such a role model to all women with her courage, intelligence, her access and how strong she is in what she’s weathered in her life. She’s a real role model.”

*About that other beauty secret you’ve no doubt seen on other blogs (the quote about Vanessa trying her own urine on acne): I was never able to confirm in a major media source, so I never reported it (especially as others did – as fact). That being said, there is this cryptic quote at the end of the OK Magazine article about this appearance:

Check out the OK! on stands now for Vanessa’s outrageous-but-true beauty tip. That’s GOT to be it. If anyone has this particular print magazine with the quote in it (”Jen’s Magic Diet …That Works!” is the cover), please let me know.
