It’s interesting to me, the moment they picked was the climatic confrontation between Wilhelmina and Kimmie in episode 3.06, Ugly Berry. I remember being surprised that Ugly Betty fans really weren’t interested in the whole Ugly Betty / Lindsay Lohan drama, and the ratings were only nominally helped. But, the entertainment press is going to choose a Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears moment every time, especially if it involves conflict.

For me, the best Ugly Betty moment of 2008 was probably when Amanda sang ‘Gene Simmons is my Daddy’ at The Beer Hole (yes, there were great moments from season 2). But, that’s my gut impression, I want to think about it and post in a year end review before the new year.

Here is part 2 of TVGuide’s list, and here is part 3. I won’t argue with their top 2 moments, but if they are going to venture out of the entertainment world and include political TV moments, how could they NOT include the best, most exciting Super Bowl ever played? Regardless, I think it’s great that Ugly Betty made a list that included all shows, scripted, reality, and “real life”.

Betty finds herself competing with Kimmie (guest star Lindsay Lohan) who finally shows her true colors, and new citizen Ignacio prepares to vote for the first time. Meanwhile Hilda takes advantage of the increased election traffic to promote her shop, and Wilhelmina wants to hire a new financial officer (guest star Grant Bowler) whom Daniel can’t stand.

This will prove to be a doozy. Can’t wait to see Betty “knock her down” !

A girls’ night out, it appears.

Filth and Wisdom was filmed on location in London, England. It is a comedy/drama/musical/romance, the story revolves around a Ukrainian immigrant named A.K. (Hütz) who finances his dreams of rock glory by moonlighting as a cross-dressing dominatrix and his two female flatmates: Holly (Weston), a ballet dancer who works as a stripper and pole-dancer at a local club and Juliette (McClure), a pharmacy assistant who dreams of going to Africa to help starving children.

Ah, Madonna. Still tweaking noses, I see. Whatever.

Back to the Ugly Betty ladies: Ferrera looks spectacular (I LOVE when her hair is straight!), Judith Light is ALWAYS classy, and Newton / Williams are glamourous as usual. Becki always seems to push the envellope with those waist-hugging dresses, and still looks fabulous doing it.

[We now pause this report for a bit of Lohan snarkiness] Lindsay, my dear. Heroin chic went out in the 80’s. Bring Sam to my house, I’ll cook you a big southern Sunday dinner sometime. Really, when I see pics of you lately, I want to give money to Feed the Starlets. [/end snark]

Actress and budding political commentator Lindsay Lohan pulls off a beautiful black and white combo here. I know many of you are Lohan fans, but compared to some of the more “healthy” females on the show, Lohan looks downright “sickly”, at least in this photo.

LiLo donned a cheerleader outfit (what is it with Ugly Betty and cheerleaders?).  Now, Lohan is young enough to pull off a high school flashback (for that matter, so is Ferrera), but her lifestyle is starting to show on her face a little, so to me, it looks a little “not quite right”.  But maybe, that’s what the producers were going for here.

There is also a pic of Ferrera in an absolutely hideous outfit; you can see that here. 

Also at the link is some gossipy tit-for-tat between Lohan and her father about her supposed drinking and whether Samantha Ronson is to blame.  The highlights:

Michael Lohan: ‘Samantha drinks and passes the drinks under the table to Lindsay, and behind the scenes it gets worse and worse. Sam is using my daughter. My daughter isn’t working because she’s always with Sam. Even my ex-wife knows it. She just isn’t doing anything about it.”

Lindsay Lohan: “‘He’s [her father is] out of control. I want him to stop hurting and talking to the media about the people I love.”

Sam Ronson: “I feel no need to publicly defend my role in Lindsay’s life – I’m just sorry that she likes me more than him.”

Ugh.

I sure hope the ratings boost received by Ugly Betty is worth having these people around the set.  Seems like poison to me.  But then again, maybe the way the cast of Ugly Betty gets along will be a positive influence on Lohan and crew.

As expected, Lohan’s character, Kimberly (I’ve also seen it as “Kimmie”) is working at a fast food restaurant. Some captions have described this scene as a fight between Lohan and America Ferrera (or rather, their characters). Indeed, in one of the photos, you can barely see Ferrera inside the restaurant, Lohan outside, and what looks like milkshake all over the just-closed door.

Apparently Betty and Kimberly aren’t getting off to the best of starts.

It’s good to see some of the Lilo filming finally underway. The 40 or so seconds in the finale last year was quite a letdown.

BTW, a little teaser. Betty is wearing a ridiculous outfit in this scene. We’ll discuss that tomorrow, and the fact that I think I know where Patricia Field is going with the costuming, and I think I like it.

I’ve seen Urie and Newton perform thier “Lohan” song (an ode to Lindsay Lohan) quite a few times, and this is the best one of all. I love how they take the craziness that is the Lohan circus with a dose of humor.

A hornet attacks Becki Newton in the video, and they answer a few more questions about being in New York.

If “Beckael” doesn’t land a spinoff at the end of Ugly Betty’s run, could they at least have a talk show? They’d be great!

Now, Hinkley doesn’t reveal anything new about content, but method. He makes it clear that Lindsay Lohan’s appearance is very brief. I figured it would be, there just wasn’t enough time, and the creative reason for her appearance in this season’s finale is for introduction only.

(One nitpick thing I’d like to add. In the high school flashback scenes, Ameri-Betty has perfect teeth. OK, I know it’s just a TV show, but for some reason, it bothers me).

Hinkley also mentions Naomi Campbell’s appearance, and loves the fact that she makes fun of herself (I’ll give some details, which most of us have seen in the promos, after the jump).

The rest of the preview/review goes over the main story lines. As has been hinted, Coach Diaz (Eddie Cibrian) is apparently going to reveal something to Hilda about his past, “and she has to decide if that’s a path she wants to walk.” Hmmmm.

Apparently in Naomi Campbell’s at-bat, while she sashays to the plate, her cell phone rings. When she reaches for it, everyone in the ballpark ducks. For those of you who don’t know Campbell’s history, go here.

I’m glad to see she can make fun of herself. Hopefully, we’ll see some of that spirit out of Lindsay Lohan next season.

Speaking of next season, Hinkley makes absolutely NO reference to Madonna, nor does he hint about a previously unknown superstar cameo, so scratch my idea about a Madonna appearance this week.

The review also makes it very clear that a LOT is going on in this episode (it should have been 2 hours IMHO), but we already knew that.

So I was wrong, it isn’t a musical number.

There have always been elements of hit movies in Ugly Betty, (starting, of course, with The Devil Wears Prada), and now I guess it’s time for Mean Girls. THis is pretty funny, and sets up what I hope are going to be some interesting scenes and flashbacks next year. I still think Lohan’s adult character should be obsessed with celebrities.

For the various shippers out there, just wait till you see the next sneak peek…
