I love the jewelry, and how it seems to match the hem of her dress.

Spoiler alert: the awards show airs tonight on ABC, so if you don’t want to know who won, quit reading, just hit the ‘more’ button to get more Hayek.

The awards themselves were an Ugly Betty-palooza.  Hayek was given the Anthony Quinn Award for Industry Excellence.  Lauren Velez (UB’s Elena) won TV Drama Actress for her work in “Dexter”.

But the night belonged to Freddy Rodriguez and Nothing Like The Holidays, which won three awards.  Excellent!

The wires just don’t have much info about any of the other awards, so we’re just going to have to watch them together tonight to find out if there were any other Ugly Betty related winners!

Guess who else is nominated in this category?  Ugly Betty stars America Ferrera and Ana Ortiz. 

Will Ferrera lose once again to someone on 30 Rock?    Just kidding.  Hayek was VERY funny on 30 Rock and would deserve the award if she wins.

There’s no TV Movie Drama category, or certainly Ortiz would have been nominated for her work in Little Girl Lost: The Delimar Vera Story, as was the case with the Imogen Awards.

The ALMA Awards, in their 15th year, celebrate Latino achievements in film, TV and music.  This year they will be hosted by Eva Longoria Parker.

Salma is also receiving a special achievement award, the Anthony Quinn Award for Industry Excellence. 

For the testosterone set, Ugly Betty’s Tony Plana and Mark Indelicato (yeah!) received nominations as Best Actor in a TV Comedy. 

Also of Ugly Betty note: alum Freddy Rodriguez was nominated for his work in Nothing Like the Holidays, along with co-star Elisabeth Peña.

Ugly Betty honorees in the behind-the-scenes category include Salma Hayek and Silvio Horta as executive producers, and hairstylist Mary Ann Valdes.

The ALMA awards will be held/filmed September 17 at the Royce Hall Auditorium at UCLA and will air Friday, September 18 (8:00 to 10:00 p.m., ET/PT), on ABC.

I love the facial hair – I’ve always wanted to grow one of those.

Freddy has obviously kept himself busy since he pretty much disappeared from Ugly Betty. I’ve seen the trailer for Nothing Like The Holidays, and I really would like to see it. Not only am I a big Freddy fan, the movie just looks like my kind of film:

I hope it’s a hit; this could launch Freddy to bigger things. But I still want him to appear on Ugly Betty when he can.

I have a couple of questions about this. First off, Henry is apparently going to be in this scene. There has been discussion about whether or not this is actually Christopher Gorham, or a double (if the scene is a quick flashback, it’s possible they used a double). I have no reason to think it’s NOT CG, though, and I’m going to see if I can get to the bottom of this in the next few days. Part of my problem is that, although there are pics (which you’ll see after the jump), the ones available to me do not include Gorham. I know that one or two exist out there, though. Stay tuned.

The other thing is more mysterious. What are they doing here? Why shoot another version of the scene? Although, I guess it COULD be a new softball game. But, that doesn’t seem likely.

I see three major possibilities for this scene:

• This could be a flashback. I’ve been combing through the old photos, trying to figure out if Alec Mapa is wearing the same thing he wore in Jump. If not, then a flashback wouldn’t make sense. Plus, Betty is wearing a strange diamond-encrusted belt buckle (shown in some of the photos out there) that I don’t remember from 2.18.
• This could be a present-day dream. Maybe Betty is having a dream or vision, reliving the softball game with new perspective? None of the OTHER actors (Urie, Williams, Newton, Mabius) appear to be in the scene.
• Or – Silvio Horta could be pulling a “Newhart” on us. What if everything that happened after the softball beaned Betty was a dream? I surely hope not. Please, please, please don’t do this, Ugly Betty producers!

One thing for sure, Freddy Rodriguez is in this scene.

Anyway, this makes for interesting speculation. I’ve got lots of pics after the jump – and Benry fans, I promise you, if I come across photos of Chris Gorham in this scene (that I’m allowed to use) I PROMISE, I’ll post them.

Here are photos of Rodriguez and the rest of the cast at a New York screening of the film at the Cinema II Theater.

Let’s talk facial hair. Some men can pull it off, some men can’t. Mr Rodriguez most certainly can.

There is talk that Freddy might be around for more than a few Ugly Betty episodes this year. I know quite a few folks that would be very happy with that prospect.

As for the film, I’ve seen quite a few good reviews of it, the strangest of which was from right-wing columnist Debbie Schlussel. She gave the film “Four Reagans”. In the same post, she gave The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, America Ferrera’s new film, “Three Marxes”. I don’t comment on this stuff, I just report it.

Also, you’ll see my favorite bad guy of all time, Alan Rickman in the pics. Then did he become, well, “grandfatherly”?

Anyway back to the ever-popular Mr. Rodriguez.

As seen on this blog, Ugly Betty has seen some incredible guest star appearances (although I’d really say that IMHO, only Blue, Gabrielle Union, and Mo’nique had appearances that were Emmy worthy – Mo’nique, just because she made me laugh so hard!).

Unless Freddy Rodriguez is considered a ‘guest star’ on the show; if so, he should be considered as well.  OK, one more I’d add: Jayma Mays.

But, if the academy is seriously considering Britney Spears, and would have considered Lindsay Lohan had she not withdrawn her name from consideration, then why not one of the many Ugly Betty guest stars?

Hopefully, Blue will be added as ‘recurring’ next year (would that fall under ‘Best Supporting Actor – Comedy’?)  In any event, we’ll have to see if Blue makes it through the committee to a nomination.

Nevertheless, congratulations are in order for David Blue!

It would appear that at least one piece of the Ugly Betty love triangle is settled. One of the actors who plays one of Betty’s star-crossed lovers Henry and Gio, has told TV Guide that he won’t be moving to New York:

“The show is moving, I am not,” he said at the SKYY Vodka screening for “Sex and the City” on May 29.

I’ll tell you which one in a minute, after a jump.

I wonder what this will mean for the show, considering the nastiness that happened in May in every corner of the Ugly Betty web universe. People chose sides, and drew some pretty hard lines. The Benry/Getty wars made the US presidential race look like a campfire rendition of Kum-ba-yah.

One side is going to be very disappointed (although I’m pretty sure Betty is going to be single when we catch up with her in September).

So, who isn’t moving to New York? Answer after the jump.

I’m sorry, Benry fans. Certainly you knew this was coming, but I know the finality is still a shock. I’ll make a prediction, though: we haven’t seen the end of Henry. Something tells me he’ll pop up once or twice in season 3.

So, tell me what you think of this huge development. And y’all be nice. We still all love Ugly Betty, right?

We’ve got a new poll up, and this one is pretty important, at least to me. This strike-shortened season of Ugly Betty has had two major story lines: Wilhelmina’s attempts to take over Meade Publications, and Betty’s romantic life. In the romantic department, most of the action has been between Betty and Henry, but Silvio Horta and the producers have not quite been subtle in presenting Gio as another option. (There have been a few moments between Daniel and Betty, but thinking they are anything but platonic is wishful thinking).

Now, Horta has said that we can “expect an expiration date” on the Betty/Henry relationship, but that’s pretty darned vague, if you ask me. There have also been hints here and there that the whole love Betty love triangle will be resolved.

…but when? We really don’t know what the producers are thinking, but what about you? We’ve got five episodes left in season 2; should the drama/romance continue into next season, or should it be decided, one way or the other? After the jump, I’ll list the main pro and cons to ending it this year (the poll is there, too!):

I fall in the latter camp. I want to see both Henry and Gio back next season – even if one of them ends up being “just friends”. (And I’ve been in these situations before – there is no such thing for an ex-lover, or secret love, as “just friends”). Now, it’s your turn!

As a side note, It tickles me that many Benry fans think I’m on the Getty team, and just as many Getty fans think I’m on the Benry ship. (Truth be told, I lean to Detty now, as long as it happens in season 8! But, that’s another post). Anyway, like I said, I like both characters, and can imagine a nice romance with either one.

Wait, does that mean that we scooped Ausiello? I’ll be doggoned. You don’t see that very often. Of course, all we told you was some of the major plot points of the shows in the coming weeks. Ausiello gives us some concrete casting confirmation.

(This DOES seem like the longest delay in the history of work stoppages. But, I digress)

Ausiello: Poor Meg. Sounds to me like someone’s dying… literally… [Snicker, guffaw] for some Betty prattle. So rather than delivering her last rites, let me give her some before it’s too late. A show rep confirms that Jayma Mays is signed, sealed and delivered — “delivered” perhaps being the operative word, given her character’s pregnancy — for two more episodes as Henry’s ex, Charlie. Meanwhile, a little bird also confirms for me that what the mom-to-be will be bringing her former beau and Betty won’t be so much a bundle of joy as a bundle of trouble. Speaking of trouble, Freddy Rodriguez is back for four more episodes as Betty’s not-so-insta-crush, Gio. .

So, Gio will be in 4 of the 5 new spisodes. Charlie will be in two. We know that Gio will be in episode 2.14, so he’ll NOT be in one of the final four.

OK, this is going to get me in trouble, but – do you think it’s possible they might kill Gio off? Freddy Rodriguez is floating somewhere between “guest star” and “recurring character”. If Silvio decides to keep the drama up for the finale by killing off a character, Gio sure seems to be a choice that will generate a lot of heat.

But, then again, why would they get rid of the one character in the show (besides Charlie) who injects drama into the Betty/Henry relationship?

One more possibility (for season 3): perhaps Charlie doesn’t make it through delivery, and Betty suddenly becomes a (sort of) mom? But then again, we have Hilda’s character to supply to “struggling mom” story lines, so that might be redundant.

But, April 24 is getting closer, and the speculation is getting to be a lot more fun!

I mean, at first is wasn’t a contest; at the beginning of season 1, Eric Mabius was the man. There was no Henry or Gio yet, and although Marc (Micheal Urie) has his own unique attractiveness, Daniel was by far the best looking man on the show. Even after Henry first appeared, many found him adorable in a dorky kind of way, but no one would describe him as terribly attractive at the time (would they?).

And then came the dream sequence in episode 2.05 (A League of Their Own). OK, there’s obviously more to Mr Gorham than meets the eye.

Finally, there’s Gio. I included him because I don’t want to tick anybody off. I make no secret that I really love Gio’s character, but does anyone really consider Freddy Rodriguez to be particularly attractive? Maybe; what do I know?

So you tell me, who ranks higher on the hotness scale: Chris Gorham as Henry, Eric Mabius as Daniel, or Freddy Roriguez as Gio?

Play fair, ladies (and gents), but tell me what you think. You can base your hotness rating on the character, or on the actor. I would make this a poll, but I’m really interested in hearing your comments.

And remember, no matter how heated these discussions get, we can all agree that it’s a wonderful thing that whiny Walter is no longer in the picture.
