Pics of Classy Vanessa Williams at The Emmys
September 22, 2009 by Tom
It would be incredibly wrong of me to go one more minute without posting a couple of pics of Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams at the Emmys this past Sunday.
Wow – what an absolutely beautiful, classic dress. It’s from Rafael Cennamo, and this color is not only daring, but quite perfect for Vanessa.
But, what absolutely makes this look work is the incredible makeup by Sam Fine. For an in-depth look at how Fine worked around the challenge of not only a very hot day, but this wonderful dress as well, check out this post.

America Ferrera’s Big Night
It was not totally unexpected that Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera would win an Emmy for Oustanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. What was unexpected (at least by me) is that Ferrera would make most lists of Best Dressed, while her more glamorous fellow cast members would be judged a little more harshly. Full disclosure: Becki Newton’s dress didn’t do much for me (a white mermaid outfit?), and I couldn’t decide about Vanessa Williams. If anybody can pull of the feather look, she can, but I’m just not sure she did.
But the night belonged to Ferrera. And she was gracious, …read more

I had to start a new post specifically for Rebecca Romjin. She and America Ferrera are absolutely beautiful at the Emmys.
The closeup is incredible. She should be a model or something.

My Betty-fied Emmy Forecast: First Installment
The day is almost here: Sunday night, the 59th annual Emmy Awards will be held. A reminder, I will be live blogging the event, from the red carpet to after-parties. There will be snark galore, and cheering for all Ugly Betty nominees. I am hosting my own little family party, and I’ll even fill you in on that. Interestingly, this Sunday will be very strange in that I start that morning tailgating at an NFL game (Colts vs Titans if you’re interested), there will be much grunting and beer and cursing and brats. Immediately after the Titans dispatch of Diva Manning and company, …read more
Emmy Prediction: America Ferrera “Slam Dunk”
September 3, 2007 by Tom
ET Online has their Emmy Award predictions up today, and things look pretty good for Ugly Betty and America Ferrera.
ET turned to Emmy expert — The Envelope’s TOM O’NEILL — to handicap the race!
“['Ugly Betty' star] America Ferrera is the one slam-dunk, shoe-in winner on Emmy night,” predicts O’Neill, weighing in on the Lead Actress Comedy category. “She’s got everything. She’s in the hot, new comedy show of the year. She’s in a one-hour show competing against half-hour programs. She’s hilarious and she’s giving a fascinating, multi-layered performance.”
No doubt. We’ve been saying that since last September. She’s in very good …read more
