According to Ausiello at EW Online, Blue has joined the cast of Sci Fi Channel’s Stargate Universe. This is the third (and edgiest, they say) installment of the series.

Blue, along with headliner Robert Carlyle, plays “Eli Wallace, a total slacker who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to — mathematics, computers, video games. A lack confidence has left him with an acerbic sense of humor”, Ausiello reports.

Wow – it sounds similar to the role David had in Moonlight – perhaps he’s found a niche? The brilliant,loveable slob/slacker? I can relate. It’s funny, some actors are downright compulsive about being typecast; others are simply happy to get a good role. David appears to be as brilliant as the characters he plays – he is making the right decision, IMHO.

It sounds like this character will have a little more edge than Cliff on Ugly Betty, so Blue will definitely be displaying his range.

It’s been fun watching David “blossom”, and his exposure on Ugly Betty was certainly good for him. Along with Ralph Macchio, Blue is probably the most liked of all the guest stars the show has had over the years. That’s some pretty heady company.

We will definitely miss David on Ugly Betty (but let’s face it – it was obvious they were having a hard time figuring out what to do with Cliff), and I’d like to be one of the first to congratulate Blue on what appears to be a great gig!

Michael Urie

Most of the spoiler news about Ugly Betty lately has been surrounded around Betty and her family. Refreshingly, EW’s Michael Ausiello has an interesting little tidbit about Marc:

Question: We haven’t had Ugly Betty scoop in forever! What’s next? — Sidra
Ausiello: Marc’s getting a new roommate…But the show isn’t adding any new cast-members.

Hmmm – the possibilities are intriguing.

The obvious one would be the return of David Blue as Cliff. No doubt Michael Urie and Blue were great together, in an odd-couple sort of way. This is the possibility I am wishing for the most. However, when we last saw Cliff, he was leaving Marc in tears. Can they put that Genie back in the bottle?

Who else might it be?

• Wilhelmina? – Maybe, but aren’t they together a little too much already? It would be interesting to see a topical storyline where Willy gets caught up in the mortgage crisis.
• Daniel? – Has the possibility of being funny, but way too gimmicky for my tastes.
• Christina? – Just can’t make any sense out of that one.
• Amanda? – This one is the most likely possibility. If Betty does move back in with her family (please, no!), Amanda will have nowhere to go. Could the writers be setting up a Marc and Mandy spin-off?

Anyway, like I said, the possibilities are very intriguing. What do you think?

Mark Indelicato is growing up FAST. I want to say I ‘get’ the shirt, but…

David Blue hams it up. Ugly Betty’s most likeable guest star keeps it casual. If I were to attempt an untucked shirt with jacket, I just don’t think it would look as cool. But, Blue pulls it off, and seems to be having fun doing it.

As seen on this blog, Ugly Betty has seen some incredible guest star appearances (although I’d really say that IMHO, only Blue, Gabrielle Union, and Mo’nique had appearances that were Emmy worthy – Mo’nique, just because she made me laugh so hard!).

Unless Freddy Rodriguez is considered a ‘guest star’ on the show; if so, he should be considered as well.  OK, one more I’d add: Jayma Mays.

But, if the academy is seriously considering Britney Spears, and would have considered Lindsay Lohan had she not withdrawn her name from consideration, then why not one of the many Ugly Betty guest stars?

Hopefully, Blue will be added as ‘recurring’ next year (would that fall under ‘Best Supporting Actor – Comedy’?)  In any event, we’ll have to see if Blue makes it through the committee to a nomination.

Nevertheless, congratulations are in order for David Blue!

Of course, they’re right. I think that Cliff’s character may be the most groundbreaking aspect of the show, and that’s saying something. Think about the ways in which Ugly Betty is groundbreaking:

There is more, but think about Cliff for a minute. Quick – name one other gay male character on television who looks like a regular Joe. Scruffy. Chubby. Most definitely UN-fabulous. As far as I know, he’s it.

I have known maybe 2 or 3 Marcs in my lifetime, but I’ve known quite a few Cliffs.

The producers very quietly, almost subversively, introduced a character into the show who is irresistably likeable, who looks like an old buddy from college, and also happens to be gay. It’s subversive not only because it humanizes Marc, but also because he’s a sympathetic male character who isn’t particularly good looking. (David, I’m talking about the character, not you!) Forget gay, that’s rare enough in and of itself.

Now, y’all know my favorite occasional character is Kenny, for sheer comedic value. But, I’ll be honest – I will not be happy if Cliff’s run on the show comes to an end.

Mark Indelicato looks cool (although he’s so skinny I think David Blue needs to take that boy out for a few cheeseburgers), Tony Plana looks CLASSIC, we’ve already seen that David Blue cleans up pretty good, and chris Gorham is quite hansdsome here.

Ugly Betty’s David Blue, Mark Indelicato, Ana Ortiz, Tony Plana, and Vanessa Williams were scheduled to appear in the 16th Annual Weekend At Sardi’s tonight. This year’s entertainment was “Selections from Bye Bye Birdie”. It was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

I guess since the cast didn’t get to participate in the musical episode this year, this is the next best thing.

If photos of the event surface, of course I will post them here.

Special hat tip goes to David Blue, who posted about this at his Myspace blog yesterday. Here’s what he had to say:

I’m currently excited to be rehearsing a “celebrity benefit” for the Alzheimer’s Association. It’s called “A NIGHT AT SARDI’S” (click to see some info).It should be a blast as it involves Jason Alexander, a bunch of the cast from Ugly Betty and Heroes and some other great shows. I’ve been having fun getting ready with all of these guys, so I can’t wait for the actual benefit. It’s great to be working for a good cause. And it’s just an added bonus to work with so many talented people.

This is a GREAT cause, and all the stars who participated should be commended.

Also, Blue noted that there was no official word on Ugly Betty or his other work with Moonlight, and some other “super-secret project I could still use positive thoughts for”. I don’t know if that means that Cliff will not be in Ugly Betty episode 2.14, or they just don’t call him until the last minute.

I certainly hope he’s going to appear in as many of upcoming 5 episodes as possible. Cliff is by far the most popular “occasional” character on Ugly Betty, based on reaction here.

I can so see this: Blue as computer hacker, with the added bonus of being a vampire!  He will help Mick on  at least one case.  His character, named Logan will first appear in January.

Moonlight is one of those shows I’ve been meaning to watch, but haven’t quite gotten around to yet, even though it looks great.  Now, I’m going to have to check it out.

Wow, this is horrible!  David Blue, who plays the absolutely charming Cliff (love interest to Marc) on Ugly Betty, was mugged at gunpoint last night/this morning, after an Ugly Betty wrap party.  Here is what Blue wrote at his MySpace blog:

I went to a wonderful wrap party for season 2 of UGLY BETTY tonight. It was a blast, full of cast, crew, producers, writers, etc. I had a lot of fun with America, Michael and a bunch of other nice people. In fact, even after working on the show for so long, I had somehow never gotten pictures of myself with any of the people I’ve worked with. So, tonight I took a lot of pictures and had a great time.

Then, walking back to my friends’ car, about a block away from the party, two men jumped out of their car and held a gun to my face and stole my wallet and my friends’ purse/camera/phone. They drove away and I’ve spent the past 2 hours talking with the police and my credit card companies.

Now, one thing I find interesting is that they had a season wrap party; do they know something about the WGA strike we do not?  I thought only 13 episodes had been filmed?  Or maybe I’m just misunderstanding.  Anyway, Blue goes on to describe how this affects him:

There’s a sad part of me that is just happy that I got away alive and that my friend wasn’t hurt. There’s another sad part of me that is happy they got me and not America Ferrera, Michael Urie, Judith Light or anybody else at the party with WAY more money than myself. There’s another sad part of me that is so angry that I just want to see these people put behind bars as soon as possible. You see, though I’ve been lucky to recur on two different shows, I’m still far from financially stable. Hopefully, I was able to catch my credit cards before they got anything. [In fact, all my companies say they tried to spend some money on ALL of them in the past 20 minutes at a single gas station but were denied because I cancelled them so fast.] But now I have no money for food, supplies or anything for a week. It’s sad how quickly your life can be affected… and even more sad how angry a few people’s SAD choices can affect people’s lives so morosely.

Blue was indeed fortunate that he got his credit cards cancelled so quickly, before real damage was done.  Blue was super-smart in not following his gut:

It bothers me that this was Hollywood. I’ve lived in New York, Astoria, Queens, Florida, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, all over… and this crap happened in the heart of Hollywood near a MAJOR intersection. I’m just glad we were smart enough to hand over our money so quickly. Because I can tell you, even with a gun in my face, my first reaction was to nail this guy in the face with as many punches as I could muster… but instead I looked at my female friend and realized it’d be better to hand over my wallet and call the police.

This is an awful thing to happen to anyone, especially near the holidays.  Here’s hoping they catch the perpetrators and punish them quickly.  Oh, and ABC, Blue needs to be made a regular, and needs a new contract (based on what he’s said about money in this post).  Of all of guest stars on Ugly Betty, David Blue is the most universally liked, based on comments at Ugly Betty News.
