As usual, the individual pieces of Ferrera’s outfit are quite nice, but pretty hideous together. In fact, I’ve gotten so used to Patricia Field’s strange stylings for Betty that if America showed up at the set wearing nice, matching outfits, it wouldn’t look quite right to me.

I don’t quite know what to think about the kitty cat purse, though. It’s cute. Maybe Betty ordered it from the SoCuteItsSick.com online store?

In the first pic after the jump, it looks like Ferrera is “crushing someone’s head” (ala Kids in the Hall)

It’s just good to see Betty filming again. December is usually a very slow time for the show, and last year we were stuck in the middle of a writers’ strike. This looks much better.

This is one of the best examples of “playing telephone”, using literal telephones, that I’ve ever seen.  Betty tries to tell Hilda about her column assignment, but first Hilda, then Ignacio, then Justin creatively misinterpret what Betty’s trying to tell them.  By the end, Betty is supposedly meeting TomKat (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes).

Amanda makes a last second appearance, saying something typical (I won’t ruin the surprise).

This will be a great episode, I think, with lots of comedy.  It’s almost Thursday.  Woot.

Mel in Temecula, Calif.: How about some Ugly Betty news?
I’m hearing that Betty’s father will suffer a heart attack soon. Fortunately it’s not fatal, but it will prompt Betty to move back home.

Holy cow!  That’s huge.  I’m not sure how I feel about this one yet.

On the one hand, there is a great opportunity for some real drama, which America Ferrera can handle deftly.  Not to mention the fact that Tony Plana would have a major storyline for the first time this season.

But on the other hand, what I don’t like is the idea of Betty moving back home.  Although realistic, doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of Betty’s storyline the first half of season 3? 

Yet, on the 3rd hand, all the angst Betty will harbor after tasting freedom and adulthood only to have it snatched away again - that’s good stuff.

I guess that if this comes to be, it means that Ugly Betty will be taking a pretty strong dramatic turn.  If so, hopefully Marc and Mandy will have some bigtime comedy scenes to counteract it.

All in all, I think such a move would be a plus for the show.  I trust the writers; they’ve shown me that this year they know what they’re doing.

Vanessa drove a pink post into the ground, christening the “Post For A Cure” campaign, in which Campanella Fence Center of Mahopac, New York will donate one dollar to Relay for Life for every post put in the ground through April 18.

I wish I could have seen that.  If she did it in character as Wilhelmina, that poor stake would definitely be all the way in the ground, maybe a few inches beneath!

The business owner, Anthony Campanella said in a prepared statement, “What better way to raise money to beat this disease. Fences are my business. Posts are symbols for stability and strength. Fences are a symbol of security and safety.”

Much kudos to Vanessa Williams for helping out with this great cause!

Considering how quickly (in Betty time) Hilda bounced back from the loss of Santos, I’d say it’s time for Claire to get a little love in her life. And what self-respecting man of mature age would not go for this absolutely beautiful woman?

Yes, there is the whole acoholism and jail time thing, but she is a Meade, after all. Nobody’s perfect!

Ugly Betty’s Mark Indelicato is following through on his dream to start a clothing line.  Indelicato was interviewed at the New York City Ballet opening celebration, and told New York Magazine all where his hypothetical line (which he’s been talking about for a while now) is in development.

“I want to do a jeans line for boys and girls that are sometimes too skinny to fit into jeans, or sometimes a little bit too husky to fit into some jeans,” Mark says.

This is good. In a tough economy, you’ve got to find a niche.  Indelicato wants to relate the jeans to his Ugly Betty character, Justin:  “And I think that it’s a great idea to start a jeans line by a boy that I play, who is fashionable all the time.”

Along with the jeans, Mark is working with designer Michelle Yin on dresses.  “She just did drawings of three of the designs that I sent, and got fabric samples,” he said.

Instead of starting off at more upscale stores, Indelicato envisions selling at discount stores such as Wal-Mart and Target, taking the current economy into account.  If successful, he’s then work his way into the swankier stores.

Smart kid.

We in the US take this Thursday every year to reflect on and give thanks for our blessings.  And, realistically, to eat a huge meal, watch football, and prepare for the biggest shopping day of the year, which falls tomorrow.

One of my favorite episodes of Ugly Betty was 1.08, Four Thanksgivings and a Funeral.  This episode was centered around Thanksgiving in 2006 and was probably the funniest ever.  If you recall, Santos came to visit the Suarezes, and gave Justin a gift of a full NY Jets uniform (Justin called it a “costume”).  He then proceeded to put the jock strap over his head, thinking it was part of a Phantom of the Opera getup.  The look on Santos face was priceless.

Also, Marc and Amanda hang out in the Mode offices and get drunk, since they have nowhere else to go.  The montage of the two of them trying on dresses and prancing around Wilhelmina’s office still makes me laugh to this day.  It was really where we knew that Michael Urie and Becki Newton had a chemistry that HAD to be featured on the show.

If you have the season 1 DVD, watch this episode some time today.  It really should be a Thanksgiving tradition.  Maybe ABC could rerun it every year?

As for me, I am thankful for the fact that I get to obsess over write about my favorite show, and I get to hang out with the smartest, friendliest fans in the world while doing it.

So, I’ll be thinking of you while cooking Thanksgiving dinner.  Turkey, cornbread dressing, corn pudding, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole - probably not what Betty would be having, I guess.

Some of the captions for these photos describe Williams’ appearance as a “surprise appearance”, but I can find nothing in the news that could explain what that means.

All I know is that Vanessa has never looked finer. Although I prefer her hair down (and I really prefer the extensions she wears on Ugly Betty), the pinned-up looked is highly appropriate here.

Williams attended, along with Mark Indelicato (wait till you see THOSE pics!) Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, Blythe Danner, and many other notables.

“We’re going to see some stuff about Claire. Claire has some loneliness problems, some issues,” Light says.  “She’s got a very complicated psyche, so you’re going to see some of that coming out. Maybe she’ll start dating again, maybe there’s an old flame from a long time ago.”

An old flame.  Hmmmm, this could get very interesting.  In general, I love this idea.

This would be a good time to let you in on the strangest “ship” I belong to - Claire and Ignacio.  I don’t think this will or should happen anytime soon, but to me, it would be perfect in the final season.  The matriarch and the patriarch, joining the Suarezes and Meades in the most unexpected way.  This brings up all kinds of soapy issues with the Detty (Daniel and Betty) scenario, but this is Ugly Betty, right? 

About the show itself, Light has this to say:  “We’re doing wonderfully well.”

“I think people respond to the show what it is - it’s real heart and soul of who a person is that they don’t necessarily fit in with the rest of the world or what the rest of the world thinks is the right stuff.

“They are really the person with the intelligence, and the heart and the integrity, and that’s why people respond to it so much.”

Will the show stay successful?  “I think it’ll go to a long time, I really do.”

I certainly hope so.  The show has made a major turnaround this year.  Hopefully we fans who stuck with the show can convince those who had given up to give it another try and see how good the show is again.

The premiere was held at the Ziegfeld Theater, and everyone seemed to be there, including stars Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman (there with hubby Keith Urban).

As for Mr Mabius, sorry, ladies - I only have head shots. But they are very nice nonetheless. I can tell you, the more I find out about Mabius - devoted family man, does work with the USO, and a consummate professional - the more I like the guy. Not exactly a bro-mance, but I do admire the man.

And the movie? I want to see it badly. Not only is it my type of film, but there’s a little hometown pride involved: Kidman and Urban live not too far from me. In Nashville, we love our adopted Australians!
