Everybody seems upset in the photos. If I HAD to guess, I’d say that Daniel Jr ran away and ended up at Coney Island. I only say that because I recognize the look on Eric Mabius‘ face (as a dad myself). He’s trying to coax little Daniel back to him.

We still have America Ferrera as “a little more stylish Betty”. For all the clashing, her look is still quite pleasing to the eye.

But, here’s something interesting. Unless my eyes deceive me, that’s Freddy Rodriguez in the background of some of the pics. Considering the fact that this is most likely episode 3.04 - it would appear that Rodriguez is going to be around for more than just the season premiere. Please tell me I’m not an idiot. That is FR, right?

Over at EW, Ausiello reports that Eddie Cibrian has signed on for a 3-episode arc with USA Network’s The Starter Wife.  He’s going to play a detective who investigates some strange goings-on in Molly’s (Debra Messing) life.

What does this mean for Ugly Betty?  As you recall, Cibrian’s character on Betty, coach Diaz, was introduced late in season 2 as (what became) a love interest for Hilda.  We have already seen signs that Diaz’s wife will appear on the show, setting up what will most likely be a “Her or Me” showdown.

Now, Cibrian signed on for four episodes, and Ugly Betty just completed filming the fourth.  Ausiello gives a hint that Cibrian must already be done with Betty, but the writers tend to drop story lines for an episode of two, so it’s not a given that Cibrian has filmed his four eps and now is gone.  Probable, but not certain.

However, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the whole “dating a married man” thing is not going to end well for Hilda.

As an aside, it’s interesting that Cibrian seems to bounce from one female-centric show to another.  His job is basically to advance the story line of a woman on the show, and somehow find a way to take off his shirt.  Even on Third Watch, where his part was more substantive, his character was a Don Juan who ended up in bed a lot.  Poor guy. :)

Before I get a lot of hate mail - yes, I know Hollywood has been doing this to actresses since at least the 60’s.  Check out the casting notices - there is no shortage of listings for “Girl in Bikini”.  It’s just funny to me that now that the majority of prime-time shows are female oriented, the tables have been turned a little bit.

Leave it to Michael Ausiello to get to the bottom of things. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself).

As reported here, and just about everywhere else on the planet, America Ferrera and Blake Lively recently did a satellite interview with a local station in Los Angeles while promoting Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and it seemed as if the Ugly Betty star Ferrera was visibly showing contempt for Gossip Girl while Lively was answering a GG question. Some say she rolled her eyes. Maybe.

Anyway, our favorite spoilerman just came right out and asked Lively if she had seen it.  Click the link to see the video. Lively gave a very diplomatic answer (although I have a hard time believing she hadn’t even heard about it- doesn’t she Google herself every morning like every other self-respecting celebrity?).  And Blake also told what she and Ferrera were doing during the THREE HOURS of interviews they sat through that day.

Apparently, there was  a post-it with a smiley face that the pair stared at as they conducted interview after interview.  Wilson!  To be honest, I would have been making faces, too, after hearing the ga-jillionth question about Gossip Girl.

Lively says that she is still best friends with Ferrera.  Good for her!

As reported, Ugly Betty did quite well in the awards that recognize positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment field. 

Now, of course Ortiz and Ferrera were absolutely gorgeous, as usual.  And Plana is always classy and dignified.  But, I can’t get over how smooth the young Indelicato looks.  He wears the dark suit very well!

Ugly Betty, including its creators Salma Hayek and Silvio Horta, deserve all the kudos they’ve been receiving.

This week’s print version of TV Guide has a blurb about Christopher Gorham and his new show, Harper’s Island.  You can view a scan here.

Gorham says, of his Ugly Betty character Henry’s relationship with Betty, “The show got us together and had to think of ways to keep us apart”. 

There’s really no disagreeing with that.  We can argue whether the producers jumped the gun with the Henry/Betty relationship (as much as I like him, I think they did - romantic tension is always better, dramatically, than a healthy relationship), but there’s no denying that the whole love triangle thing was not handled well. (This is assuming that the story just abruptly ends early in season 3)

Back to the blurb, it mentions that Gorham’s character on Harper’s Island, Henry Dunn, is a “dashing groom”.  The plot of the show has friends and family gathering on the island, only to get picked off one by one by a mysterious killer. The killer is revealed in the season finale.

But there’s an interesting Ugly Betty connection: Adam Campbell, who plays a guest and subsequently one of the suspects, is married to none other than Jayma Mays, who of course played the girl we loved to hate, Charlie.  Asked if she could be the killer, Campbell says, “I live with the girl, so I know she’s got a sinister side.  Nothing would surprise me.”

Very rarely do I see Ortiz with Ferrera and think, “they seem like sisters”. (It always bugged me that Hilda and Betty do not have the same accent - I know, I know, it’s a TV show…). Anyway, there is a photo in this set where the two do indeed look very much like sisters.

I haven’t seen anything about Becki Newton or Michael Urie being at Hot In Hollywood this year, which is strange because they performed together last year (as Babs and Neil). UPDATE: Never mind. As soon as I write that, I read thewaymouth’s comment about Urie and Newton doing Broadway Loves the 80’s. Now we know where they were!

Moving Wallpaper is a comedy-drama “documentary” about a fictional show (last year it was a soap opera called Echo Beach).  Wallpaper chronicles the adventures of the fictional producer of the show, Jonathan Pope (played by Ben Miller), as he tries to produce a show while dealing with crazy writers, actors and executive producers.  What’s really cool about the show is that ITV broadcast an episode of the “fictional” show after every episode of Wallpaper.  (It would be the equivalent of “Sins of the Heart” airing directly after Ugly Betty).

Echo Beach was canceled,  and this year it has been replaced (in Wallpaper context) by a zombie drama called Renaissance, which will star Alan Dale and the beautiful British actress Kelly Brook.  

It’s good to see Dale working in TV again (how about a pool for when his character dies of a heart attack?).  Those of you in the UK, tell us what it’s like when it airs!

This big winner, of course, was America Ferrera, who won Entertainer of the Year.

Ugly Betty also won the big ensemble award: Performance by a Latino Ensemble in a Television Series.  (To me, this is a no-brainer.  No other show even comes close).

Linda Mendoza also won the Director of a Television Series award for her work on ugly Betty.

Also, “La Misma Luna“, in which which America Ferrera had a part, won a Special Achievement award.

We often talk about how Ugly Betty is a “gay friendly” show, or a show friendly to “normal-sized women”.  The show is groundbreaking in those ways, but it is also by far the best show on television that highlights positive portrayals of Latinos.

The ALMA awards will air on ABC on September 12.  Congratulations America Ferrera and Ugly Betty!

America was joined on stage by Ugly Betty co-stars Ana Ortiz, Tony Plana and Mark Indelicato (more on this later). All in all, the fundraiser was a success, raising oodles of money for various AIDS charities.

It was a big weekend for Ugly Betty - between this fundraiser and picking up Alma Awards (once again, more on this later).  This is always a busy time of year for the cast.

I love the fact that it is sixty seconds long, and they take their time with it.  If there was any doubt about Ugly Betty becoming a Single Girl in the Big City series, this promo should put that to rest.  I really think this will be a good move - now there are endless possibilities for stories outside Mode and the Suarez house.  Think “Mary Tyler Moore”.

Betty obviously gets her own apartment, and quite possibly the Val Emmich character is going to be a “crush” for Betty.  We’ve yet to see Betty have an unrequited love - this is the stuff of music montages. :)

I love when Betty surprises her family as they are painting her apartment.  It took me several viewings to figure out it was them.

I am very, very excited for this coming season!
