This episode was one of my favorites so far; Betty shined as the moral center (thank God she’s back!), and this was by far Daniel’s most sympathetic episode, but the night belonged to Marc.  He had more one liners than ever, and they were all funny!

At ModeThe elevator opens to reveal that it is full of very skinny supermodels.  One more model gets in, followed by Betty.  This causes the “Maximum Load Exceeded” alarm to go off.  All of the models look at Betty, and she says, “You don’t know it’s me!”  She says, “And I heard you snickering. Very mature.” (At which point she presses the button for every floor on her way out).

She runs into Christina, who is frantically running around; they discuss how skinny this year’s models are.  Christina says she “just fitted a spinal column with a tuft of hair”.  Betty runs into a succession of people who need her to do something for the big fashion show.  Then Henry comes in.  He gives her a bag that he had stuffed with things she will need for the show, then dips and kisses her.

Daniel shows Betty his new, fancy chair given to him by Alexis as a peace offering.    She shows him the graphic for the runway at the show, he is not impressed.  Daniel is very worried that the show will be too ordinary; it is the first fashion week show he is handling on his own.  Betty gives him a couple of ideas, but he shoots him down.  Betty excuses herself to give Justin’s class an educational tour of the magazine. 

Justin is walking in with his class, trying to impress the Alpha Girl, Lindsay.   Betty shows them the conference room; all are bored except for one girl (Hillary).  Justin is mortified at how “uncool” Betty is.  The teacher (Betty’s former teacher) tells her how impressed she is with her.  But, the teacher assumed that Betty was a writer, and living in the city.  She then asks if anybody has any questions.

The girls ask about Paris Hilton and how skinny she was.  Betty said she didn’t get into that side of things.  She asks if anyone has non-celebrity questions.  Hillary asks one about an article about fur, but her classmates give her that “you are so uncool” look.  She tells Betty “never mind”.

Betty tells them that Mode is about more than fashion, but they aren’t listening.  They ask about Gisele and what she ate for lunch.  Betty is disappointed, but from behind them, Amanda answers with all the scoop about Gisele.  The girls then fawn over Amanda, saying that being at Mode reminds them that they need to “so go on a diet”.  Betty has lost control, and seems devastated.

Christina is in The Closet, and Stuart surprises her and hugs her from behind.  He tells her he’s tired of being poked and prodded, that he won’t go to the doctor.  Christina insists.  As they are kissing, Marc sneaks in.  He is attracted to Stuart, until he finds out he’s Christina’s husband.  He sneaks into Fey’s love dungeon.

Amanda is staring at the wall of her “Dads”.  Marc tells her that he will help her out by “turning to a higher power.   Cut to a psychic’s office, Linda (Annie Potts).  She is on the phone, arguing with her daughter.  She then gets a “feeling over Amanda’s stomach and tells her she won’t be able to have children.  Marc says that’s not what they are there for.

They sit and Linda concentrates.    She says she’s “getting something”, and she hits speed dial on her cell and yells at her daughter to “get that boy out of the house!”.  She goes back to concentrating, but she’s obviously trying to get Marc and Amanda to give her clues about what they are looking for.  Linda tells her she’s going to rescue a dog.  A black dog.  She says that’s all she sees.

Back at Mode, Betty is finishing up with Justin’s class.  A group of skinny models pass, and Lindsay says “Oh my God, look at them!  I am such a cow!”  She then throws her lunch in the garbage.  All the other girls join her but Hillary.  After some heavy peer pressure stares, Hillary also discards her lunch.  Betty is mortified.

She storms into Daniel’s office and says “We need to totally change this magazine”.  Betty asks why they only show starving women in designer gowns.  Marc asks her why she’s surprised.  Betty recalls when she was 12 at Lesley Levine’s pool party.  She remembers how all the girls had bikinis, but she was in an oversized NKLB T-Shirt, eating chips with Lesley’s parents.  Daniel looks interested.  She pitches the idea of having regular sized models at the Fashion Week fashion show.  Daniel is very interested for publicity reasons.  He agrees to talk to Alexis about it.

Alexis has called a meeting of all the editors (Daniel didn’t know about this).  She has him sit on a very small table, and ignores him while she talks to the others about their ideas.   All the other editors thank Alexis for their new chairs.  Player Magazine’s editor says that this month, they have, “boobs, boobs, and meat” (too funny).  Alexis then goes to someone else, but Daniel insists he present his idea.  He does, and Alexis shoots it down.

After everyone leaves, Daniel argues with Alexis, she still says no, but he says he might just ignore her.

Daniel tells Betty that he has decided to go against Alexis’ wishes, and he will do the ‘normal’ fashion show.  He tells her that Alexis and he had gotten into “a little pissing contest, and we know who has the better aim these days”. J 

Betty is in the elevator, and Now Wow gets in.  She very uncomfortably talk to him about how he isn’t “L’il” any more.  The elevator comes to a stop; they are stuck.  She says “Don’t worry, Mr Wow, someone will come right away”, and she presses the alarm.  Amanda hears it, but ignores it.  Betty and Bow Wow get comfortable; Bow Wow performs his new song for her as they sit on the floor.  The elevator starts up, when they get to the top (after Bow Wow flirts with Betty), Amanda is there, congratulating herself for saving the day.  Then Amanda sees that Bow Wow was in the elevator, and convinces herself that he was the “black dog” and that she had rescued him.

Henry finds Christina; he has to tell her that the insurance will not pay for her husband’s experimental treatment.  She grabs an arm from a mannequin, and throws it.  It hits Marc, who was hiding behind a rack of clothes.  He tries to console her (hilariously using the arm instead of his own).  Christina tells him about the $100K she needs.

Daniel and Alexis are holding a press conference to announce their new healthier model fashion show.  They have a scale, and have the models each come and weigh.  As the models come in, Betty notices that the models are still ultra-skinny.  Justin, who has a gift for guessing weight, tells Betty that each is weighing in at 20 lbs over her real weight.

Amanda has gone back to see Linda.  Linda tells her the price has gone up.  Linda concentrates, and says she has to find a “B” that will lead her to a kiss that will lead her to her father.

In the ladies’ room, Betty leaves a voice mail for Daniel telling him he wouldn’t believe what Alexis did.  Alexis walks in and says “what did Alexis do?”  Betty then confronts her about the models.  Alexis tells Betty that rigging the scales was Daniel’s idea.

Betty walks by Amanda’s desk, looking for Daniel.  Amanda notices her “B” necklace, and realizes that Betty is her “B”.  She begs Betty for help, but Betty is desperately trying to find Daniel.

Betty confronts Daniel about rigging the scales.  He tells her that Alexis wan’t going to change the show, so rigging the scales was a compromise.  Daniel hangs his head while Betty gives him the “I’m disappointed” speech.  When he looks up, 12 year old Betty is staring at him.  She says “I guess I was wrong” [about Daniel], and walks away.  Daniel is almost in tears.

Cut to the a very short scene at the Suarez house, when Ignacio says the models are too skinny, that he remembers when women were proud to show a little Trostos en su tronko (junk in their trunk).  Hilda is grossed out by hearing her dad say this J.  The doorbell rings, Betty goes to get it.  It is Daniel, telling her he’s decided to put on a renegade, “normal model” show.  He also had invitations for Justin and his friends.  He says, “Come on, let’s go put on a big, fat fashion show!”  he is embarrassed right after he says this.

Daniel gathers the staff of Mode and tells them that this is a renegade show, and they have to keep it a secret.  They come up with code names, and work up a plan on how to pull it off.  He sends them off to the street to find “real” women.

On the way out, Amanda grabs Betty and takes her to the love dungeon.  She tells her about the psychic, and the “B”, and the kiss.  There is a hilarious moment when Amanda’s trying to be nice to her (but she can’t even remember her real name).  Then they share a tearful moment about their mothers.  On the way out, Betty notices one of the pictures from the wall has fallen.  She picks it up, and hands it to Amanda  It’s Gene Simmons of Kiss, and Amanda realizes she has her answer.  She sticks her tongue out at the photo (in Gene Simmons’ style).

At Wilhelmina’s Apartment

Wilhelmina is frantically looking for something in her refrigerator.  She finally finds what she’s after: rocky road ice cream.  Marc is behind her, preparing a syringe.  Wilhelmina is very emotional and weepy.  Marc reminds her of her plan to get pregnant with Bradford’s heir.  He says “I never thought I’d say this to a woman before, but, turn around and bend over!”  Wilhelmina screams, then recovers and weepily tells Marc she’s going to be such good parents.

Later, Marc is on the phone with Wilhelmina while she is being examined by a doctor.  The doctor tells her they’ll be lucky to get one viable egg, because of her age.  He asks about her surrogate, Wilhelmina is aghast.  He explains she has a “hostile womb”.  Marc, overhearing this says “aren’t they all?”

Wilhelmina is getting a pedicure, while she talks to Marc about her hostile womb predicament.  They are brainstorming about finding someone with a proven, accommodating womb, who Wilhelmina can contol.  They look at the pedicurist, Brandy, and ask about her kids.  She says she has 5.  Marc tells Wilhelmina: “Looks like you just found yourself a 5-star womb”.

Wilhelmina offers Brandy her choice of her furs, and tells her all expenses will be paid.  Brandy is a little apprehensive, but agrees to carry Wilhelmina’s child.

Later, Marc and Cliff are out looking for a video (this is hilarious – Cliff keeps choosing serious movies, and Marc, keeps choosing variations of “Bring It On”).    Marc talks Daniel into going to the porn section of the video store.  There, they find a surprise on the cover of an S&M themed DVD: Brandy apparently is on the cover as a dominatrix.

Wilhelmina and Marc summon Brandy, and tell her she can’t carry the child because there can be only one dominatrix in the relationship.  They send her away.  Marc then tells Wilhelmina about Christina’s predicament.

Mode Fashion Week Fashion Show

The show is going on, with skinny models.  Suzuki St Pierre reports the disappointment.  However, the mode staff is readying everything to surprise everyone with their renegade show.  Daniel comes up to emcee, supposedly to finish the show.  He instead announces that the healthy show is now going to start.  Henry starts the music, and they begin a fashion show with real women.  Alexis is obviously upset by this.  Bow Wow and Omarion come onto the stage, followed by succession of women of all ages who are definitely above a size zero.  Justin’s teacher is one of them, and her class takes all of it in.  Then Betty comes out in a beautiful designer dress.

Later, Alexis takes credit before the press for the very successful fashion show.  Betty asks Justin’s classmates what they thought.  Lindsay says that the models were fat and disgusting.  Everyone looks a Hillary, who thinks about it, then echoes Lindsay’s words.  It’s very sad.  Betty is devastated.  Daniel comes by and says the press is saying it’s their best show ever.  Justin comes back in with the Lindsey’s sidekick, who hurriedly admits that she liked the real girl show.  She didn’t want Lindsay to know, though.

Betty thanks Daniel, and they walk out arm, while Betty continues to make suggestions to Daniel about improving the magazine.

•  Daniel: To keep working at being more responsible.  Daniel has made quite a turnaround this year, especially since Betty had her moments of going off the deep end.  But, he has a lot more work to do.  Wagering away a multi-billion dollar company in a sibling-rivalry paintball war isn’t exactly the height of maturity.
• Alexis: See Daniel.  Also, to see a therapist so she can finally work out those daddy issues.
• Christina: To be supportive of her husband in his time of need.  Unless, of course, he’s a lying, no good con man.  If that’s the case, it would change to “kicking him in the jewels, then kicking him to the door”.
• Amanda: To find her father, of course!  Oh, and to get Halston some decent sweaters, not made of paper clips.
• Marc: To find a way to get back to Mode, and be back with partner, Amanda.  AND – to try dressing like Cliff, just once.
• Wilhelmina: To wrestle control of Meade publications from the Meade siblings.  (Remember, if I were HER, I’d be an evil, conniving witch).  Also, to work out her various family issues.  Oh, what the heck: how about trying to be a human being for once?
• Ignacio: To continue being a good father, even when it seems like his daughters are losing their minds.  Also, how about finding love?
• Hilda: Speaking of finding love….To start dating for real.  Maybe giving that Gio guy a second look? (If he can take his eyes off Betty).  Also, to be responsible enough to get the salon off the ground.  And to be the best mother possible to Justin.
• Justin: To star in his school’s production of High School Musical.
• Gio: To get over Betty.  She’s just not into him, he needs to move on (hello?  Hilda’s HOT!).
• Cliff: To remain true to himself, no matter what Marc does.
• Kenny: To finally get that recording contract, and blow off accounting for good.
• Nick: To quit being a jerk.
• Henry: To get a lawyer  and sue Charlie for custody of the baby;  that way, he can be the father he wants to be, and still be with Betty.
• Betty: To follow her heart, no matter what.  To be a real writer for Mode or another Meade publication.  To always be there for Henry, and Daniel, and Hilda, and Justin (but think of herself every now and again).

Anyway, you might have your own ideas for resolutions.  And, I’m sure I forgot some characters, so add your own!

• The picture of Wilhelmina with Dick Cheney.  Ashley Jensen made this scene.  She was listing off Wilhelmina’s Lucifer-based nicknames when she just blurts out “Oh look – Wilhelmina and Dick Cheney!”, and there was the wonderful photo-shopped picture.  Or was it?
• Amanda’s Parents.  They were obviously surprised to see Amanda and Marc show up at their house.  They came down in bathrobes, and before long, another couple came downstairs in bathrobes.  The look on Amanda’s face, discovering her parents were swingers, was priceless.

• The Slow motion paintball scene.  Rebecca Romjin has been absolutely hilarious this season – especially after Alexis regained her memory.  She’s playing the character differently now – as a man who just happens to have a knockout female body.  This came to a hilt in “Bananas For Betty” (the last new episode), during the paintball war with her brother.  When her team mates rolled her into the room, guns blazing, screaming, in slow motion, it was just too funny.  Romjin appears to be having so much fun!
• Amanda singing ‘My Milkshake’. – This one (and the next one) came out of left field.  Bradford has unexpectly left the room with Daniel in the middle of his wedding, and Marc gets Amanda up in front of the crowd to fill the void, and let Amanda seize the moment.  She chooses a quite … er … unorthodox song.  The scene cuts to Daniel and Bradford arguing, then it cuts back to Amanda, and the crowd is now into it; when the pipe organ plays along, it might just be the most surreal moment on television this year.
• Marc making thunder. Speaking of surreal – this was, to me the funniest moment of the entire season.  Wilhelmina has very threateningly summoned Betty to the roof of the Meade office building for a showdown about Betty’s finding out about her affair with the bodyguard.  The mood is ominous.  After each sentence spoken by Wilhelmina, we hear thunder.  The last time we hear it, the scene shows Marc off to the side, wiggling a piece of sheet metal to make a thunder sound.  Wilhelmina tells Marc he can leave.

The last is my favorite, because it was so out of the blue, and understated.  Except for that “Betty stare” that she always gives Marc and Amanda, no other recognition of the strangeness of the situation was given.  It reminded me of Monty Python.

Of course, there were many other hilarious moments; it’s almost impossible to whittle them down to a list small enough for a poll.  Alexis admiring her own boobs.  Kenny’s rap.  Mo’nique chasing Henry.  Betty saying “bowling sucks” (there was just something funny about the way she said it).  The fake web sites.  Christina getting male models to get sized for underwear.  Cliff’s “just a second” finger.  Wilhelmina singing folk songs.

Recap organized by plot line.

The Battle For Mode

The episode begins with Daniel and Alexis in an office with a lawyer and a video screen.  The lawyer tells them that before he dies, Bradford had left a video message.  In the message, Bradford admits that he knows he’s sick.  He tells them he didn’t reveal who he wanted to run Meade Publications because he wanted to explain his reasons in this video.   He says that his successor needs to “possess a killer instinct”.  He starts to tell who he has chosen, then in the video, Betty interrupts him (and knocks over the camera).  When Betty leaves, he says “it is my desire that one of you become CEO of Meade”.  He then says, “I choose my..”, and what sounds like “D” consonant – then he gets up, worrying that the camera is not on.    He turns the video camera off (thinking he is turning it on).  Daniel and Alexis are left hanging.

Alexis thought he was going to say “my daughter”, and Daniel thought he was going to say ”my Daniel”.  They decide to wait till they speak to their mother on the phone the next day to try to make a decision, and that no one should sit in Bradford’s desk till then.

Next, Betty is coming off the elevator with Bradford’s chair.  He explains that they are “guarding it”.  Alexis barges in and screams, “I KNEW you took it!”  They then both attempt  to sit in the chair at the same time, trying to knock each other off.  Betty stops them and says she will guard the chair till there is a decision.

Nick walks by Amanda’s desk, and tells her that she didn’t order enough paper clips.  They argue, then Amanda asks if he’s gay.  He says “only with you”.  She shows him what she has done with the paper clips: mad a homemade leash and “suit” for Halston.  He says “THAT is a misuse of company property”; she points to his head and says, “THAT is a misuse of hair gel”.  He calls security, and they take Halston away.

Next, Alexis and Daniel are on the phone with Claire.  Alexis tells Claire that they think she should plead not guilty by reason of insanity.  Daniel gets angry because he wanted to tell her.  He grabs the phone.  They fight over the phone.  Claire yells at both of them and tells them they need to grow up, and work it out.  Daniel suggests they settle it the way they settled a dispute over their tree house when they were kids: a paintball war.  Alexis refuses, then gets angry and agrees.

The next scene, Alexis team (which consists of her, Kenny, Nick and two others) is dressed all in white, Daniel’s (which has Amanda and others) is in blue.  Kenny makes a hilarious speech about all of them being “brothers in this, even the chicks”.  Amanda and Nick trash talk.

Daniel gets off the phone; they have closed the paintball field due to rain.  Alexis says that they should go ahead and have the war anyway.  Kenny starts a wonderful rap about “Alexis, as big as Texas, she knows what it’s like to be both sexes…”  Alexis is not amused, and shoots him with a paintball.

They start the “war” right then and there in the Mode offices.  Kenny gets shot immediately.

Next scene, Alexis has her team roll her into the area where Daniel is, she has two guns blazing and shoots three of Daniel’s team.  This is a slow-motion scene that is hilarious.  Only Amanda and Daniel are left on his team.

Later, they meet up.  Amanda looks at a designer dress that got ruined.  She says, “I should feel something, but I don’t.  War has changed me”.  Daniel tells her he shot one of Alexis’ teammates, and Amanda says one of them went home because she got bored.  It’s now two against two again.  Amanda leaves to shoot Nick, while Daniel Hunts Alexis.

Amanda catches Nick unawares; she shoots him multiple times in her anger over Halston and all the other things they’ve fought over.    They yell at each other, then get romantically excited and kiss.  As they are kissing, Alexis comes in and shoots Amanda.  After this, they resume kissing.

Daniel catches Alexis; she falls down.  She tells him to go ahead and shoot her.  He thinks about it, then changes his mind.  He asks her to run the company with him.  She agrees, and gets up to hug him.  As she hugs him, she grabs her gun, and shoots him.  She says she won’t let him win this. 

The next day, Betty arrives and sees the mess that the Meade siblings made.  Even her bunny got hit!  She walks with Daniel as he takes the disputed chair to give to Alexis, she is now the boss.

Betty/Henry/Hilda/Gio

Henry tells Betty that he has a surprise for their date the next night.  He says “wear socks, ‘cause they’re going to get knocked off”.  Christina offers to let Betty and Henry come with her to see a new romantic comedy, but Betty explains that they are trying to have nights that are “just the two of us”, before Henry has to leave.

Hilda is in the offices of Mode, carrying a box full of office supplies for her new styling salon.   She shows Betty the flyers she made “Hilda’s Beautilities – I Give Good Hair”.  Betty warns her that this might draw “those guys from in front of the liquor store”, Hilda doesn’t care.  She says that a beauty school that burned down was going to send her a slightly damaged shampoo sink.  Betty says that Henry will be by the next day with his Time-Life books to install it.  Hilda asks Betty to ask Gio to go get the sink for her.

Cut to Hilda’s salon; Gio wheels in the sink.  He is angry with Betty because she only calls him when she needs something.  He asks about “egg salad (Henry).  Betty explains to Hilda that Gio finds Henry boring.  They talk about their “Saturday Sundae Night” where they have different toppings that correspond to the movie they are watching.  Gio is not impressed.

He then proceeds to tell them about what he would do if he were in Betty’s situation.  His description is so romantic, involving dancing and sunsets and making every second count.  When he is done, both girls are obviously hot and bothered.              A song comes on the radio that he likes.  He grabs Betty to dance.  She finally agrees, and when he dips her, she sees that Henry has walked in.

Next, Henry is installing the sink, asking Betty why she was dancing with Gio.  Henry is having trouble with the sink, Gio asks him if he needs help.  Henry refuses.  He thinks he’s done.  Betty turns on the water, and it flows all over Henry, instead of down the drain.

Later, Justin has “made over” Henry; he looks absolutely ridiculous (part gangsta, part preppy, with his midsection exposed).  Ignacio tells Henry he can keep his boxers J .    Hilda bursts in and announces that she has asked Gio out.  Betty says Gio is a know-it-all, Henry says he likes him (for Hilda, at least).  Gio walks in, saying he is done installing the sink.  He talks to Hilda about the salso club they are going to, and they ask Betty/Henry if they want to go.  They say they have plans – Henry has a surprise for Betty.

Cut to Henry’s apartment; he shows her that the surprise is that they are going to make the ice cream (with an ice cream maker).  Betty tries to act happy and pleased with this.  Next scene, Henry is getting the ice cream ready, singing Van Halen’s “Ice Cream Man”.  He calls the ice cream “Bananas for Betty”, they kiss.    He tells her the movie is a German film – she looks disappointed.  She suggests they do something exciting like “climbing the fire escape” or any of the other things Gio had described.  Henry says, “But tonight is movie night!” Betty suggests a new way to eat the ice cream (off his stomach)

Next scene, Betty has made a “Henry Sundae”, with ice cream and whipped cream on Henry’s stomach.  He is not enjoying it because it is quite cold.  Betty tells him she’ll “eat it fast, then”.  She tries, and gets it all over her face.  She then puts on chocolate sauce to try to warm things up, but it is too hot and Burns Henry.  She tries to eat it off real fast, and burns her tongue.  Henry asks why they are doing this, Betty explains that she wanted to make memories with Henry, maybe go dancing.  Henry obviously doesn’t like the idea of dancing.    But, he agrees to go, for Betty’s sake.

Cut to the salsa club, Betty and Henry arrive, and find Gio and Hilda.  They have been drinking.  Gio tries to order drinks for them, Henry doesn’t want them.  Betty wants Henry to “loosen up”, then maybe Gio can show him some dance moves.  Henry obviously doesn’t like this.  Gio and Hilda get up to dance; Betty wants to join them, but Henry refuses.  Betty is disappointed. 

As they watch them dance, Betty tries to get Henry to dance, he pulls away, and catches himself on fire by running into a flaming drink.  He tells Betty he is not like Gio, and storms out.

Later, Betty is leaving Henry a voice mail, apologizing. She turns around and sees him dancing in his T-shirt on the dance floor.  They are silly moves, but he is sweaty, and the crowd likes it.    Betty is quite smitten.  She tells him, I don’t want you to be like Gio.  They walk out, and Gio stares at Betty; Hilda notices this.

Betty has a nice slow dance with Henry in his apartment.  They kiss, then dance.

Hilda and Gio get to the Suarez house.  He asks her if she wants to go out again sometime.  Hilda says no – she says it’s obvious he likes Betty.  Gio looks as if he realizes this for the first time.

Wilhelmina vs Betty White

Wilhelmina is yelling at the Slater staff, unhappy with the mockup for the cover of the magazine.    She tells them to be prepared to work through lunch.  They are obviously annoyed, even angry.   She asked Marc why they aren’t working, and Marc explains that they are upset that they aren’t getting paid.  She tells the staff that she would be meeting with the investors that very afternoon.

Next, Wilhelmina is walking down the street with Marc, angry that the investors turned her down.  (Actually, they needed a few days to think about it.  They were worried about her image problem) .    Marc reminds her that she was fired and pushed into her fiancé’s grave.  Marc suggest that they work to change her image. 

He tells her: it’s the video age.  Britney Spears shaves something, or shows something, or shows something shaved, and it’s seen around the world overnight.  He says “I can make you Mother Teresa – with better boobs”

Cut to Fashion TV, showing scenes of Wilhelmina spending a day of public service.  It shows ridiculous scenes of her giving shimmering dresses to homeless people.  She also plays guitar and sings a folk song to sick children in the hospital (a good chance to use Vanessa Williams’ great voice – too funny).  FTV superimposes the head of Eleanor Roosevelt onto Wilhelmina’s body, saying “Its like Eleanor Roosevelt has come back to life – as a woman”.  The investors call and say they saw the report and liked what they saw.

As they re leaving the building, an old woman is trying to get into a cab.  Wilhelmina jumps in front of her and takes the cab, she then closes the door on the woman’s fingers, and has the driver drive away (after throwing a few dollars at the woman).  Two bystanders approach the fallen woman and say “Oh, My God, It’s Betty White!”   She says, “Yes, jackass! Call 911!”   One of the men has gotten the whole thing on his camera phone, then shoots a photo of the three of them.

Wilhelmina and Marc get out of a cab, and the paparazzi are waiting for them.  They ask, “Why do you hate Betty White?  Why did you attack her?”  They then go inside, and see the video of her exploits with Betty white.  Someone even had made it into a dance video on YouTube.  The phone rings.

Marc finally answers; it’s Betty White’s publicist.  Wilhelmina speaks to Betty W, who wanted to call and say she forgave Wilhelmina.  Wilhelmina asks her to “forgive me on TV”.  Betty W agrees.

Later, Wilhelmina is in Betty W’s hospital room, along with the crew from Fashion TV.  But, when Wilhelmina tries to apologize, Betty W recoils in horror, claiming Wilhelmina hurt her other hand.  “Get away from me, you monster!”, she says.  When Wilhelmina stops the cameras, Betty W says that the feud was good for her career, and that she was going to milk it for all it was worth.

Later, Marc arrives to tell Wilhelmina that the whole staff has quit.  She says that she now has to revert to plan B.  She reveals that she had bribed the young doctor to extract sperm from Bradford’s body, and that she planned to get control by giving birth to an heir.

As the episode begins, Betty is in her bathrobe and curlers, in the Suarez kitchen, having a midnight snack.  She goes to the refrigerator for more milk, opens the door, and sees Bradford’s head behind the milk.  He says, “A box of baking soda wouldn’t hurt in here”.  Betty counts to three and reopens the door, Bradford is not there.  However, Betty turns around to see Bradford in tropical attire.  He says, “I’m not a ghost – I’m a subconscious manifestation of your guilt”.  He says of the way he’s dressed, “I didn’t pick it, you did”.

Betty denies that she’s guilty of anything.  Bradford reminds her that she promised him on his death bed she’d take care of Daniel, yet she hadn’t yet returned to Mode.  Betty says she can’t go back to Mode because it changes her too much.  She says she’ll remain Daniel’s friend though.  She promises to do this, if he’ll go away and let her go back to bed.  He says, ”You mean, eat the rest of these empanadas?” Betty says, Damn you, subconscious manifestation of my guilt!”

Later, Hilda and Ignacio are watching a telenovela, and Justin walks in with a box of Christmas ornaments.  Hilda says they won’t be trimming the tree that day, Justin reminds her that they decorate the tree that day every year.  Hilda doesn’t want to do it for Betty’s sake because Bradford’s funeral is that day.  Betty comes down the stairs and insists they should decorate the tree later that day, because it was their mother’s tradition.  Justin and Ignacio leave to set up the nativity scene.  Justin says, “Mary what happened to your hair?” Hilda asks Betty if she’s going back to Mode – Betty says no; she’d disappoint her mother.

At the funeral, Daniel and Alexis are discussing the family plot that Daniel didn’t know existed.  Betty explains to Christina that Henry is not there because the next issue of the magazine goes to print that night, and he is doing last minute work.  A police car pulls up, and Claire gets out, under guard, in full prison garb.    Daniel then gives a nice eulogy, saying that Bradford’s shoes will be hard to fill.  He asks if anyone else would like to speak.

Betty gets up and starts to say some nice things.  She says, “He was also a father, and a husband…” – at this point Wilhelmina shows up with Marc and says, “He was ALMOST my husband”. Daniel confronts her.  She mocks Claire, and as she walks past, Claire trips her; she falls into Bradford’s dug-out grave.  As she is in there, Claire proposes that Wilhelmina be fired, the two siblings agree.  She adds, “Rest in peace, bitch!”

At Mode: Later, Marc and Wilhelmina arrive at an empty Mode.  Marc says, “If I’d said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, ‘Nobody pushes Wilhelmina Slater into an open grave!’”  Wilhelmina says that she was prepared for being fired.  She dials 0 on a phone, and out of the desk rises a CD labeled “Medusa X”.  She then rips open Marc’s wallet she gave him for his birthday, pulling out and electronic key.  She uses it, getting out the CD.  Marc asks what it is; she says it’s something the Pentagon cooked up – she had dated one of the joint chiefs.  She types a password (retail) into a computer, and presses ‘Activate’.  Buzzers and alarms then start to go off, and files erased from all the computers.  Everything is replaced by a Medusa looking Wilhelmina.  Wilhelmina says, dramatically, “It is done”.

At the Suarez house:  The Suarez family is getting out Christmas decorations.  Hilda thinks it’s weird decorating the day of a funeral, but Betty insists.  They discuss the year they decorated an hour after Ignacio passed a kidney stone (which they turned into an ornament).  Hilda and Justin want to buy a ink tree, but Betty insists on tradition.  Henry then calls Betty to tell her about the disaster happening at Mode.

At Mode:  Henry tells the Meade siblings that everything in the computers is gone.  Daniel says that the issue ships in 12 hours, and that they’ll never make the deadline.  Alexis reminds him that they have to: the magazine is already in trouble.  Daniel says that he will not let Wilhelmina win.  He tells Henry to start making calls, to get everyone in to help.  Henry says they are already there – through a window you can see the whole Mode crew, and Betty stands before Daniel.  Daniel says, “You’re back?”, and Betty says, “For tonight”.

Everyone is scrambling around, trying to put together the magazine at the last minute.  They have lost the cover, and cannot get in touch with the photographer.  Wilhelmina walks in with Marc.  She then reveals the mockup for Slater magazine, and offers a 15% raise to anyone who will leave Mode to come work for her.  After adding in dental and cosmetic surgery, most of the Mode staff decide to jump ship for Slater.  They all leave together, but Amanda decides to stay with Mode because it is her mother’s magazine.

As Betty is checking in with her family on the phone, Bradford shows up on her computer (inside SoCuteItsSick.com). He says she should go give one of her “annoying pep talks”.  He threateningly grabs one of the kittens inside the screensaver, to blackmail Betty into helping Daniel.  She goes into Daniel’s office and gives him the “pep talk”.  She reminds him of his eulogy, and tells him a story of how her family had to carry on a birthday tradition, even though her mother had died right before her dad’s birthday.  He gets inspired and goes to work.

Amanda writes the number of pages of content they have to fill on the board: 83. (She makes the 8 look like Betty).  Each person who if left is given a writing assignment (Henry becomes food editor).  Sheila says she just got off the phone with the printer, and he won’t extend the deadline.  Alexis says she knows the guy, and thinks she can charm him into extending the deadline.  She leaves to put on something seductive.

Everyone works together, and slowly they create content to fill the magazine.  Amanda gets assigned the “What’s Hot/What’s not” feature.  They discover that the cover cannot be retrieved. Betty suggests they reshoot.  Daniel tells her that the advertisers were sold on Cameron Ashlock (America’s Sweetheart), but now she’s in rehab.  Daniel decides to break her out of rehab.

Betty goes with him, but tells him she doesn’t like at, and that it was things like this that make her not want to come back to Mode.  They bribe the guard and get to Cameron’s room.  She is meditating.  She says she has now “found God”.  Betty convinces her that a good way to make amends (and please God) is to make amends – including with Mode, by shooting the cover.

Back at Mode, Cameron will not come out of the dressing room until she gets booze or drugs.  Daniel decides to take her a bottle of booze.  Unfortunately, Cameron bursts into the room and destroys the set in a temper tantrum.  She then gets dragged out. 

Betty tries to lecture Daniel – but he says he didn’t give Cameron the drink.  He says that the cover is gone; he’s no Bradford Meade.  Betty says, maybe that’s a good thing – he’s got a blank slate.  When she says this, Daniel gets an idea.

Sheila asks Amanda where her What’s Hot section was; Amanda says she’s waiting for inspiration.  At this moment, a pizza delivery guy shows up.  Amanda gets an idea when she sees him, and is excited.  Later, she announces her creation, she has a model come in wearing the pizza delivery look.  Sheila is not impressed. (It is pretty bad).  She tells her to go back to the phones.

Daniel presents his idea for the cover: a completely black cover, a foldout with “in memoriam, Bradford Meade” on the inside cover.  Everyone loves this and applauds.  Sheila says “Issue 412 is ready to ship!”  Daniel says it’s actually 001, they are going to get a fresh start.  Daniel asks Betty to come back again.  He tells her that no matter where she works, she’ll have tough choices to make.

Amanda is sulking in the sex room when Christina walks in. She says that fashion was instinct for her mother, and that she can’t live up.  Christina tells her that her mother actually worked her butt off.  She also convinces her to keep looking for her father.

As Betty stares at the pieces of the issue on the wall, Bradford appears.  She asks if he’ll show up again, he says, “That’s up to you”.

At the publisher: Alexis walks in the door, looking for the printer.  The man she was expecting to be there wasn’t there anymore; a little person named Harvey was now the printer.  He tells her he will not give Mode more time.  Alexis locks the door and says she will not let him go till he changes his mind. She holds the keys where he cannot get them.  Later, Alexis has a heart to heart conversation with Harvey.  They discover they have much in common.  He convinces her to quit trying to please her father.  She decides to let Harvey go.   He decides to give Mode the time it needs.

At Slater: Wilhelmina fires one of her new people because she doesn’t like her, then tells everyone that the magazine will commence work the next day when they get financing.  Marc asks her where the financing is coming from; she tells him The Senator (her dad).  Later, over dinner, she asks her father for the financing – he refuses.

At the Suarez House:  Hilda is putting the lights on the tree.  Justin and Ignacio are being critical of the job she’s doing; she starts to get down angrily, and accidentally pulls the tree over.  It then catches on fire.  As Betty is scrambling to get the issue together, she calls home.  Hilda says the tree is “hot – it’s smokin’!”.  Betty knows that she is lying; Hilda admits that the tree burned up, including some of Betty’s favorite ornaments.  They did save their mother’s angel, though.

Later, the Suarez family comes downstairs to see that Betty has bought and decorated the pink tree.  They put up the angel to honor their mother.  She announces that she took her job back.  The episode ends with Hilda proclaiming that the tree is ugly.

The episode begins with Suzuki St Pierre of Fashion TV reporting on the events of the wedding and the condition of Bradford Meade.  Betty is in the waiting room and asks Alexis how her dad is doing.  Alexis tells her that it was a massive heart attack.  Daniel walks, looks in Betty’s direction, and says “Hey, thanks for coming”.  As Betty starts to respond, Daniel walks past her to shake a man’s hand, a man who was standing right behind her.  Betty tells Christina, “He hates me..I really am fired!”

Betty goes to Mode to clean out her desk.  The front desk is manned by “L’Amanda” (played by comedian Mo’Nique). L’Amanda asks about Henry, who she obviously has a crush on.  Betty tells her that she is there to clean out her desk because she got fired.  L’Amanda asks if “Sugar Stick” (Henry) knows yet; Betty says no.  L’Amanda says, “I may have a chance.  Man like a girl with a job…”

As Betty is cleaning out her desk, another version of her (in poncho) appears.  It is a vision of the more naïve, sweet version of Betty from her first day at Mode.  Sweet Betty asks today’s Betty what happened – is she running the magazine now?  Betty tells herself that she had instead gotten fired.  Sweet Betty doesn’t believe it.  Then she sees that it is real.  Sweet Betty asks how this could happen.

Today’s Betty outlines all of her sins from the past several weeks.  Sweet Betty asks, “What’s happened to you?  I hardly recognize you”.  Today’s Betty tells herself, “You’re young, and naive, and it’s a lot trickier than you think”.  Sweet Betty says, “Well, if it’s so hard to be a good person in this place, maybe it’s a good thing we’re leaving”.  Christina walks in, and Sweet Betty is gone.  She pinches Christina, who pinches her back.  Betty asks her if she’s changed since she first started at Mode; Christina says it’s hard not to change.

At the hospital, Marc and Amanda are discussing Bradford.  Amanda says that Bradford is kind of attractive in a Sean Connery kind of way, and says, “Why is it always sadder when tragedy strikes hot people?” Daniel barges in, screaming at Wilhelmina to “Get the hell out of here!”  (Marc and Amanda eat popcorn and watch as if they are watching a movie).  He kicks her out because “she’s not part of the family”.  Marc very noisily leads her out.

Justin, Hilda, and Ignacio are watching the reports on FashionTV.   Betty comes home with her things.  She asks how Mr. Meade is doing – Justin says, “They still haven’t found the suit” (he arrived at the hospital minus the suit he was wearing).  Betty asks about Mr. Meade.  Justin says describes the hospital gown as if he were describing an item at a fashion show.  Hilda finally breaks in and says that he’s still unconscious.

Ignacio consoles Betty for getting fired.  He offers to tell Daniel the truth.  Hilda tells her to go to the gym and get “smoking hot”, and then Daniel will beg her to come back.  Betty tells her dad that she let Daniel down.

She goes into her room, only to find Claire and Yoga hiding.  Betty tells them they can’t be there.  Claire tells her that they are leaving the country tonight, but first she needs a favor: she needs Betty to find out if Bradford had changed the will. If Wilhelmina got the company, she just can’t leave.  She tells her it is in Bradford’s office.  Betty at first refuses, then Claire talks her into it – to help Daniel.

In a limo, Marc is talking to Wilhelmina about the unfortunate wedding events.  She says that she knew Bradford changed the will, but doesn’t know how he changed it.  For all they know, he could have left all his money  to charity.  Marc says, “They need to find this Charity person, and kill her”. 

Betty goes to Mode, but L’Amanda stops her at the front desk.  Her attitude has totally changed, she will not let Betty into Mode at all.

Amanda has a sweet conversation with Daniel about Bradford.  He tells her that he never told his father that he loved him. Amanda says, “You may never have gotten his love or approval; but at least you got his jaw line”.  She convinces him to go up and talk to his father.

L’Amanda is doing her makeup when Henry walks in.  She tells him he just missed his girlfriend.  Henry says, “That is not the way I roll’.  He starts flirting with L’Amanda, as Betty sneaks into the offices behind him.  As Betty and Henry get off the elevator to the executive suite (while kissing) , Marc and Wilhelmina are there. Wilhelmina says, “If I ate lunch, now would be the time to lose it”. 

Each “side” tells the other that they are there looking for a memento of Bradford.  All of them slowly search the office, suspiciously keeping an eye on each other.  As they move in unison, tango music plays in the background. Wilhelmina says, “Let’s end this.  We’re all here for the will.  Why don’t we agree to find it, read it, shake hands, wash our hands, and go on with our lives?”  Betty then goes to the wall safe, and tells Wilhelmina she has the combination.  Betty opens the safe, but it is empty.  At this time, Marc and Betty simultaneously remember Fey’s love dungeon.  Marc throws Betty’s glasses to the gound; she gest down to find them. He then pushes Henry over her, in a classic Three Stooges maneuver.  He races out of the room with Wilhelmina, and locks Betty and Henry inside.

L’Amanda is not answering her phone, so she can’t come and let Betty and Henry out of the office.  Henry suggests they crawl through the air ducts.  As they crawl through the ducts, Henry is having a great time, Betty is miserable.  Henry tells her to embrace her inner action hero; Betty says “Mexicans don’t have action heroes, we have a speedy little mouse”.  Henry finds what he thinks is the vent above the sex room, he falls through it, right down where L’Amanda is.

L’Amanda thinks he’s there for HER, and Henry plays along.  He goes so far as to kiss her, as Betty climbs down and makes her escape.  Henry then “breaks it off” with L’Amanda and gets out the door himself.

At the Suarez house, Ignacio hears something upstairs.  He sees Yoga in Betty’s room and asks who she is.  Yoga says, “cable company”.  Claire then proceeds to argue with her about how stupid that sounds. As Ignacio is telling Claire how he doesn’t like Betty helping her (which she has gone to do), Hilda walk in.  She sees the hiding Yoga, who says she is the “exterminator”.  Claire says, “Unbelievable.  You are the worst fugitive in the world.”   

Hilda and Ignacio look at their fake passport photos and realize that Claire will never pass for the person on the passport.  Hilda offers to give her a makeover.  Later, they reveal Claire after makeover – she looks kind of like a sixty year old Rita Moreno.  Yoga tells Hilda, “You could do a lot of business in the escapee community…”

In the sex room, Wilhelmina looks around in amazement.  She grabs a whip, and cracks it (we hear a lion sound).  Marc finds the will – it says that Wilhelmina will share his estate…once they are legally married.  Wilhelmina has an idea…  After they have left, Betty and Henry come to the sex room, and find the will.  Betty calls Claire and tells her what’s in it.  As they are leaving, Betty leaves a “strongly worded note” for Marc (including the classic line:”In conclusion, you are a weenie”).  She tapes it to Marc’s computer, which goes off of screen saver and shows the website where he just obtained his “ordination” to perform weddings.

Claire starts to leave to go to Italy, but as Justin almost recognizes her, she changes her mind.  She wants to go to the hospital to see her children one more time. She tells yoga that if she doesn’t return by 8, to go without her.

At the hospital, Alexis is at Bradford’s side, “lovingly” telling him to “go to the light”.  Daniel says “No!  Don’t go to the light!  Light bad!”  As they argue, Bradford wakes and tells them to stop fighting.

Later, Daniel is alone with Bradford, they have a heart to heart, but instead of telling his dad he loves him, he says, “You’re going to be OK”.  After  he leaves the room, Bradford says, “I love you too, son”.

Many things now happen at once.

Ignacio comes to the hospital, telling Daniel he must speak to him about his mother.  As they go to speak, Marc and Wilhelmina sneak in.  They grab a “witness”; as this happens, Claire talks with her children in the elevator, telling them her plans.  Claire then tells Daniel why Betty didn’t tell him about Wilhelmina’s affair.

Marc starts the “ceremony”, but Bradford tells Wilhelmina that he now believes his son; He kicks her out of the room.  Betty rushes into the room.  He tells Betty “The only person that ever loved me was my wife”.  Betty calls Claire to tell her that Bradford wants to talk to her.  Claire then goes out of costume, and marches toward Bradford’s room with the paparazzi flashing away.  She comes to his room, they quietly profess their love, Bradford apologizes.  They kiss.

Outside, Daniel tells Betty that he now understands why she did what she did.  He offers her job back.  She refuses, seeing her Sweet self standing in the corner.  She says that the job is making her into someone she doesn’t want to be.  Daniel says he understands.  Sweet Betty gives Today Betty the thumbs up.  As he walks away, the police drag Claire away.  Daniel and Alex go with her, and Daniel asks Betty to stay with his dad.

Betty walks into Bradford’s room.  He tells her to promise she’ll take care of Daniel, that he is lost without her.  Betty promises –then goes to get him some water.  When she returns, he has died.

At the Suarez house, we learn from news reports that Claire told the police that Yoga was dead.  We see Justin and Hilda sitting there shocked, then see the front door left open – Yoga had left .

At the hospital, Betty holds Daniel’s hand to console him.

As the show fades to black, we see Wilhelmina speaking to a doctor in front of what we assume is Bradford’s covered body.  She says she has a proposition for the young, indebted doctor.  He looks receptive, and then there is a real fade to black.

 Wilhelmina-induced crisis at Mode finds everyone scrambling to re-create an issue on deadline. Desperate times call for desperate measures, as Daniel and Betty try to break wild child cover girl (Eliza Dushku as Cameron Ashlock) out of rehab for a re-shoot, and Alexis tries to charm the printer (guest star David J. Steinberg) into extending their time. Meanwhile, Betty struggles with an unwelcome (and persistent) visitor who hopes to goad her into making good on a promise.

The Insider is reporting that Ugly Betty will have Betty competition in December: Betty White!

ABC has confirmed that the “Golden Girls” actress will make a guest appearance playing herself in December.

One of the things I love about this show is the opportunity for cameos.  As much as I love Lost or CSI, (BTW, these are two of my favorite fellow Spekked blogs!)  guest stars generally cannot play themselves, and on Ugly Betty there’s more opportunity to have a little fun with the casting.  I’d love nothing better than if they brought back many of the stars of MTM, a show that had the same “feel” as Ugly Betty.

Rebecca Romjin had a close call last night, apparently.  According to NewsDay:

NEW YORK – A small electrical fire in the Broadway building that houses the Ed Sullivan Theater briefly hospitalized a “Late Show With David Letterman” crew member with smoke inhalation Wednesday, officials said.

A small fire that originated inside an air conditioning unit was blamed for the smoke. No other injuries were reported, and the Letterman taping _ with guests Rebecca Romijn, Jimmy Walker and LeAnn Rimes _ was not delayed.

“Everyone was OK, and they actually believe the fire was started by a disgruntled audience,” Letterman joked on the show.

Henry is drunk and speaking to Betty in her living room.  He calls her beautiful and scrunches her face.  He was drinking melon and apricot wine coolers (EEEWWW!)  They discuss the situation with Charlie,and the baby, and Dr. Farkas.  Betty says that they will have to wait to be together, at least until they find out if the baby is Henry’s.  Henry falls asleep.

The DNA results that Marc ordered are back in.   Daniel is with Amanda, they are discussing the possibility that they are siblings.  Or, as Amanda puts it: “Half siblings.  Which means if we did it, like, 20 times, it was only wrong 10″.  They open the envelope, and discover that Bradford is not Amanda’s father.  She jumps on Daniel in his wheelchair; they kiss, proud that they can do so.  Amanda, stops though, tells Daniel that she has unresolved issues with him, and tells him to just “squeeze a boob, because I have to go”.

Hilda makes Henry her famous hangover recipe: tomato juice, a raw egg, and bacon grease.  She asks if he’s dying to call Charlie; Henry says he’s afraid to.  He says he’s never been this mad.  He tells her a very strange allegory about female orangutans.  She offers him food, he almost throws up.

Betty tells Christina she’s going into ‘waiting’ mode with Henry, which is easy because she’s so busy planning the Black and White Ball.  Christina complains about all the costume work she’d been doing for the ball: “glitter came out in my pee yesterday”.

Gio the sandwich guy is serving the people at Mode (things like chicken and cheese baguette, no chicken, no cheese, no baguette). Betty orders her sandwich; Gio is excited: “I knew you were an eater”.   Daniel rolls up and asks Betty to procure an “iBot 4000″, a really top of the line wheelchair, for the benefit.  Betty reminds him he should be walking by now.  Daniel says he’s still in a lot of pain.  He also asks her to make sure the check for the charity is big,(but not so big his head looks small), and blue or green.

The fashion TV reporter talks about the upcoming ball,and the fact that Bradford Meade postponed his wedding.  Wilhelmina sees this and is distraught. She is worried that Bradford’s children will “get to him” and permanently drive a wedge between Bradford and her.  She gives up. Mark shakes her in a “get hold of yourself” moment.  Wilhelmina says “you’re touching me!”.  “It was a risk”, he says.  He gives her the idea to “help” Alexis remember that she hates her father.  She asks him to do something with Photoshop.

Claire and Yoga hatch a plan to go to the ball in costume.

Betty confronts Gio – her sandwich didn’t have as many sun-dried tomatoes as she used to get from the past sandwich guy.  He will not fix it for her, though.  He says it will ruin the sandwich.  Betty insists.  He still refuses.  He calls her a “spoiled Mode girl”.

Betty has a tantrum about this to Daniel.  He tells her to go to the website that always cheers her up: So Cute It’s Sick.com. [writer's note: Disney owns this domain.  Interesting].  She tells Daniel Gio’s name; as she leaves, Daniel picks up the phone.

Hilda is watching a telenovela, a gangster is pointing a gun at a man.  At the same time she’s on the phone with Ignacio, who has a gun pointing at his head as well.  He tells Hilda to tel the family he loves them, then Hilda hangs up.  At this point, Ramiro Vasquez (the man Ignacio ‘killed’ walks in the door). 

Betty is on the phone arranging to get the wheelchair.  Gio lets Betty know that he was just fired because of her.  He makes an announcement to the office that there is no such thing as fat-free mayo, that each tablespoon has 125 calories of fat,  and he puts two tablespoons in each sandwich.  At this point the entire office recoils in horror, and spits out their lunch.  He once again calls Betty “Mode girl”.  Marc and Amanda applaud, and tell Betty she’s now”one of us”.  A dream sequence follows, with Betty being showered by confetti, holding flowers and being congratulated by Marc and Amanda.  Back in reality, she says, “No, no I’m not like you”, in horror.

Alexis is being made over at Wilhelmina’s expense.  She tells Alexis that they were best friends.  Wilhelmina shows Alexis a photo album of the tow of them together, with some incongruous scenes of them square dancing, and marching for gay rights.  Wilhelmina says Bradford has been bedridden with greif since he postponed the wedding.  She tells he that they (Bradford and Wilhelmina) were going to get married, but that Bradford postponed it out of concern for Alexis.  Wilhelmina convinces her to endorse the wedding.

Amanda and Marc hatch a plot for Amanda to ‘come out’ as Fey’s daughter at the Black and White ball.  They look forward to all the invitations and swag they’ll get once Amanda is discovered.  Marc tells Amanda that Fey always arrived in a fabulous red dress and said the words “Black and white ball?  I guess I didn’t get the memo…”

Henry is looking at So cute It’s sick .com to calm down.  Amanda and Marc barge in demanding their paychecks early so they can buy a dress.  They butcher his name and tease him, and Henry goes off.  He tells them he’s proud of his name, that in Dutch it means “he who gives the fairest price for his bricks”.  As they are leaving, Marc and Amanda comment on how “hot” Henry is when he’s angry.  Henry calls and leaves a message for Charlie.

Justin asks Daniel to help him learn to play basketball. 

Betty stops Gio as he’s loading his van, and lets him know that she just finished talking to his boss and got him un-fired.  He says it’s just as well – he has a 5-year plan to get his own sandwich place: “Gio’s Sandwich Depot”, which will have every condiment known to man.  She asks him if in the meantime he will drive her to New Jersey to pick up Daniel’s wheelchair, since he has a van.  She offers to pay.  He says OK.

Back in Mexico, Vasquez has Ignacio tied up.  He tells him that he had barely survived the beating Ignacio gave him, but the only thing that kept him going all those years was the thought of revenge.  He then, out of nowhere, demands Ignacio make him flan.  “Sometime’s I wake up and I miss my wife. Sometimes I miss my flan”.

Daniel is trying to show Justin how to play basketball.  He is terrible.  As he flails away, the background music is “Get In the Game” from “High School Musical”.  Gotta love Disney.  Daniel finally gets frustrated, gets out of his chair, and makes a perfect drive to the basket.  Justin is amazed that Daniel can walk. Daniel explains that he’s trying to impress his physical therapist.  He says she’s very “smart”, and once he has “one really smart conversation” with her, he will have a total recovery.

Gio is singing along with the car radio, badly.  He asks Betty to sing.  After a bar or two, he turns off the radio.  They talk about what she does at Mode, he dreams, how she is a “writer”.  He asks her what she’s written lately (she hasn’t).  He mocks her for not following her dream. He starts singing again.

The wheel chair guy at first tries to give Betty the “Tulip” model instead of the iBot 4000.  He says Nick Lachey twisted his ankle and reserved the iBot.  Betty at first accepts, this, but Gio convinces her to make up a good story to get him to change his mind, since she’s “such a good writer”.  Se invents a story about Daniel being with the CIA. It worked.  As they are driving back, Gio says, “maybe you are a writer after all”. 

Marc tells Wilhelmina that Alexis “just called Bradford to her bedside” to bless the wedding.  She slaps Marc for including “square dancing” in the photo album.

Vasquez eats the flan, and tells Hector to kill Ignacio anyway.

Justin shows Hilda pictures from his cell phone of him attempting to play basketball.  She sees a photo of Daniel standing and walking, and is appalled.  She calls Betty.  Betty is appalled as well.

Gio makes fun of Betty because of all the silly, menial tasks she has to do that keep her from her writing.  She tells him that shealso can’t write because she’s going through som bad family problems.  He “quacks” at her.  He says that every time she gives an excuse, he’ll quack.  She retaliates by “woof”-ing every time he mentions his 5-year plan.  They get in a quacking and woofing contest.  This is when Betty gets the call about Daniel being able to walk.

The guests are arriving at the ball.  Marc bursts into the fashion TV broadcast and says, “Look is that Fey Sommer’s illegitimate daughter?”.  Amanda arrives in a beautiful red dress, holding Halston the dog.  She says Fey’s famous catch-phrase.  Nobody notices her. (They all see Zac Ephron – Disney again!).   Marc asks her,”Does Paris Hilton have everything handed to her? Well, yes she does, but that celebutard works hard to stay in the news.”  The decide they need to do something outrageous. 

He says, “Oh, my God!  Is that Josh Duhamel? ”  Amanda gets excited and goes looking for him.  As she does, Marc steps on her dress.  She is totally naked in front of the press.  As they finally start to notice her, she starts posing.

Inside the ball, Bradford tells Wilhelmina that Alexis is on board with the wedding.  Claire arrives with Yoga (who is dressed as a man).  Daniel loses control of his wheelchair, and has to jump out. Betty confronts him about his faking injury.  She wasted her entire day getting the wheelchair so Daniel ould play grab-ass.  She goes on a rant about how she could have been writing, and hasn’t written since she had a crush on Lance Bass.

Ignacio tries to convince Hector not to kill him.  At this point, we find out that Hector was Rosa’s little brother.  He was beaten himself as a child.  Vasquez walks in and scolds Hector for not killing Ignacio.  Cut to the outside of the house, we hear a gun shot.

Daniel introduces Kenneth Cole (who asks, “what is this for, again?”).  Claire sneaks up behind Bradford and tries to convince him to leave Wilhelmina.  Wilhelmina decides that the best thing to do is to show Claire that in no uncertain terms, she has won.  She interrupts a sick child who is making a speech to announce that the wedding is back on.  Bradford tells Claire “it’s over” and walks up to join Wilhelmina.

Daniel apologizes to Betty (and gives her a partially eaten bagel).  Betty asks Daniel if she can take a writing class during her lunch hour.

The office is buzzing about Amanda’s stunt.  (The swag? Melissa Etheridge buying me a domestic beer?)  She shows a softer side and says she is sad that she doesn’t know who her father is.

Gio has left Betty a “present” sandwich, just as she likes it.  Henry tells her he talked to Charlie, and that there will be a paternity test.  He asks her to lunch, she can’t go.

Betty and Hilda are discussing the creative writing class Betty as signed up for, and Ignacio walks in the door.  He hugs the entire family.

Wilhelmina is speaking before an All Hands meeting.  She is running the meeting as acting editor.  She reads her “Letter From the Editor”, while Betty attempts to grab a bagel.  She slips, falling down and causing a huge ruckus and mess.  Marc “whispers” loudly, “Don’t worry, no one noticed”.  Wilhemina continues.  Betty asks why Daniel isn’t writing the Letter From the Editor.  Wilhelmina calls her, “Pie Eyed, Pie eating Betty”  She then proceeds to ignore Betty.

Back at the hospital, Daniel and Betty are watching Alexis.  Daniel explains that Alexis doesn’t remember anything after their mom’s birthday party, two years previous.  Alexis grabs her breasts (which she’d been doing a lot of), and gives an approving thumbs-up to Daniel and Betty.  Alexis doesn’t know about the divorce, or Claire’s imprisonment and escape, or Bradford’s impending marriage.   Betty begs Daniel to come back to work, but he refuses.  He does ask her to get The Book, though.  Alexis sees a story about her mother’s escape on Fashion TV.

Marc mails off the DNA samples to the lab (not his first time, he says).  Amanda expresses a wish to have known Fey better.  She dreams of getting a big Fey Sommers estate, says she’s waiting to hear from the probate judge.  She shares a silly giggle with Marc about “probate”.

Hilda has gathered all of Santos’ stuff into their apartment  Boxes are everywhere.  Hilda gives Justin a sack lunch, to which he says, “You want me to bring my lunch?  Mom!  The famous Mode cafeteria, where Naomi Campbell has a tuna melt and an meltdown; they now have it on the menu: the Naomi Campbell Tuna Melt Meltdown” (that’s funny!)

Marc, walking behind Wilhelmina, sees Dwayne, Wilhelmina’s new bodyguard.  He is scared witless.  Wilhemina says she hired him to protect her from Claire.  As Betty is walking into the room, Marc yells, “OMG! Its Claire Meade charging for us!”  Dwayne picks her up in a choke hold, until Wilhemina calls him off.  Marc is pleased with himself.  Betty asks for The Book; Wilhelmina refuses.  Betty sees Marc getting a set of Wilhemina’s house keys from his desk for Dwayne (there are more in the desk).  He tells her that The Book is at Wilhelmina’s apartment.

After Marc leaves, she takes a key from Marc’s desk, and turns to see Henry standing before her.

Henry tells Betty that he’ll be going back to Tuscon; he’s just at mode for the job and the insurance.  He’s looking forward to becoming a father. He asks Betty if that’s OK (that he’s there).  She says yes, but she’s obviously thinking No.  “We were young and innocent then. Ah, youth!”  She says they can be buddies.

Cut to Betty telling  Christina that it’s NOT OK.  She says she won’t tell Henry about the doubt surrounding Charlie’s baby.  They turn and go into Wilhemina’s apartment (which Christina didn’t now they were going to do).

Justin arrives at Mode.  Marc immediately tests him with menial tasks. He has Justin update Wilhemina’s contacts in her Blackberry.  A lawyer arrives at the front desk; Amanda is excited to think she might be receiveing a fortune. Unfortunately, all of Fey’s assets were sold off and the money given to charity-except for a Chinese Crested (very ugly dog)  named Halston.  Amanda gets him, and a thousand dollar a week allowance, so Amanda takes him.

As she and Betty are going through Wilhemlina’s apartment, Christina says, “I can’t believe we’re in Lucifer’s chamber…Beelzebub’s lair…the devil’s rumpus room…Oh, look!  A picture of Wilhelmina with Dick Cheney!” (Hilarious – risky, but hilarious).  Also: “Ten bucks says there’s a coat in there made of dalmation puppies”.  They find The Book, but the Wilhelmina appears for a tryst with Dwayne.  Betty and Christina hide under the bed.  Afterward, they escape, but Betty leaves behind an earring.

Bradford has a change of heart and starts to bond with his now more boyish daughter.  He doesn’t tell her about Wilheina.

Ignacio speaks to Hilda over the phone, and convinces her to get rid of all of Santos’ things, but one thing to hold onto (this is what he did with his wife’s things when she died).  Ignacio hatches a plan to cross the border into the US illegaly (again).

Wilhemina finds Betty’s earring and says, “I smell a burrito”.

Marc has a tirade toward all the interns; he is not happy with the way they prepared for Shakira’s photo shoot.  He dismisses them all except Justin, with whom he is pleased.  Wilhemina calls and tells him to get dirt on Betty.  Marc looks at Justin and say, “I hear you loud and clear”  He asks Justin about hs family.

Amanda’s dog apparently emits quite an odor.  Halston then faints. 

Wilhemina has Marc tell Betty to meet her on the roof, immediately.  She goes there; it is filled with mannequins, and Wilhelmina is there.  She holds up the earring and says “I believe you lost something”.  We then hear thunder; Betty looks to the perfectly blue sky and then turns to see Marc wiggling a piece of sheet metal to make the thunder sound!  Brlliant!  Wilhemina tells Betty that if she stays quiet, The Senator can help Ignacio get his visa.

Neither Daniel nor Bradford can tell Alexis about Wilhelmina.

Marc gives Justin a pass to the Shakira shoot.  At this time, Justin finally remembers that his father is gone, and Marc lends a sympathetic ear, if only for a moment.  He also plots with Amanda to get rid of the dog.

Betty has a dream sequence with her dad, telling her to take Wilhelmina’s side so he can get home.

Henry talks to Christina, who finally decides to tell him about the possibility of the baby not being his.

Amanda and Marc take Halston to the animal shelter, but when the person at the front desk tells them that no one will adopt him because he’s so ugly,Amanda has a change of heart.  She decides to keep him.

Justin goes into a market to get rice cakes for Shakira, and discovers its the market where his father got shot.  The owner tells him that Santos was a hero.  He says, “I’ll bet you’re just like him. Justin replies, “No, I’m not”.

Daniel comes back to Mode.  Betty starts to tell him about Wilhelmina (to incriminate her), but Ignacio calls and tells Betty about his plan to cross the border.  Betty tells him not to do anything yet. 

She makes the deal with Wilhelmina.

Hilda and Justin decide to keep just one thing from Santos.  Justin chooses a basketball.

Daniel puts Wilhelmina in her place, but she doesn’t put up a fight.  She passive-aggressively reminds Betty about their deal.

Bradford tells Wilhemina that he’s like to postpone the wedding.  As she pretends like everything’s OK with that decision, the flames rise in the fireplace to illustrate her anger.  She goes to the roof and starts destroying mannequins with a baseball bat.

Hilda tells Betty that Ignacio is coming home (Betty already knows), but Betty is quite distracted with the deal she’s made. 

A man shows up at Ingacio’s house in Mexico and points a gun at him.  It must be the hit-man. 

Henry then shows up at Betty’s door, drunk.  He tells Betty he knows the baby may not be his.  He knows Charlie cheated on him.  He says that he wants to be with Betty.  Fade to black.
