Becki Newton, Michael Urie at Bark-A-Thon

Here are a couple of photos of Ugly Betty’s Michael Urie and Becki Newton at the 11th Annual Broadway Barks Adopt-A-Thon this past weekend in Times Square. Doggies and Marc & Mandy – who can resist?

The event was hosted by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore. As I side note, have we seen the end of Peters on Ugly Betty? Plot wise, after stealing Betty’s dream job, is there anything left for Jodi to do? I still think it would be cool for her to pop up from time to time, allowing Betty a chance to get even a little. Any excuse to have Peters back on the show – every time she’d do that sing-talk in season 3 I just had to smile.

And I’s like to put Mary Tyler Moore on my list of hopeful Ugly Betty guest stars. Since Betty keeps oscillating between lover and single girl in the city, who better to give a little advice to Betty about the latter?

The event, in its 11th year, was founded by Peters and Moore to connect homeless dogs and cats with potential pet parents. Dozens of celebrities were at this year’s event, including not only Urie and Newton, but Angela Lansbury, Hope Davis, Sutton Foster and David Hyde Pierce, and many more.

“In 2002, the rate of euthanasia among shelter animals was at 74 percent of total intake, Moore told Playbill. “We are proud that as a result of our efforts in 2008, the number of animals killed in New York City shelters has dropped to 39 percent of total intake.

“That means nearly 15,000 fewer animals have been euthanized in our city’s shelters compared to 2003.”

“We’re moving steadily toward our goal of ensuring that every healthy and treatable dog and cat in New York City has a home,” Peters added.

As a side note, Perez Hilton was quite smitten with Urie: “Michael Urie was looking super ridiculously cute this weekend while participating in the 11th annual Broadway Barks event to help a number of homeless cats and dogs find new homes! But more importantly… Who’s cuter: Michael or the adorable pup Michael’s holding????”

As for me – hey, Michael is great, but c’mon! Becki Newton in a short skirt with a pug? Ruff!
