Good Ralph Macchio Interview (and Short Clip!)
May 7, 2009 by Tom
Ralph Macchio recently stopped by the morning news set at WPIX, and talked about his role on Ugly Betty, being the father of teenagers, and some of his future projects.
The included Ugly Betty clip is hilarious, not only because Tony Plana does the exasperated father better than anyone, but also because he guessed that Hilda is pregnant, then Hilda quickly corrected him. I don’t know, I just found it funny because Ana Ortiz really is pregnant.
I’m glad that Archie is going to run for Queens borough president, because that will make for all kinds of interesting story lines; and Ana Ortiz as Hilda is funniest when she’s out of her element, which she’ll be as a political girlfriend.
The interview itself reminds me what seems so odd about the entire cast of Ugly Betty: they just seem so doggonned humble. Even Vanessa Williams, Bernadette Peters, and Macchio, who were celebrities in their own right before joining the cast, seem in interviews like someone you’d just love to go have a beer with.
I’d really love to see the feature film Macchio is developing. When I find out more about it, I’ll pass it along to you.

Love him! Love her with him! Love them! Love family with them! Fun storyline for Hilda… out of her element… Perfect! Hope Horta keeps them til wedding bells!
And how cool and nice is Macchio for an iconic star!
Thanks for posting! Can’t wait for tonights ep!
I hope Archie is around for the long haul– he and Hilda are so cute together
So glad to hear that Archie will be in the 4th Season, he is so great for Hilda, I was sad that he wasn’t in the last episode!
totally agree, the 2 have great chemistry. Hope he stays. Great stories can be developed with those two together!
Me too! Archie is *the man!* I have to say it: I’m in love with Ugly Betty again. This episode put all my fears to rest. I was hoping they wouldn’t head for a downward slope with this latin-based program being a novelty that “just won some awards.” It shows that you don’t just need names like Sandra Bullock attached as producer in order to a have good, successful run. Although it helped alot on George Lopez (one of my regular Nick-At-Night rerun shows I watch.) Like Patrick Warburton said in some magazine: Marriages and kids ruin shows. Could next week’s marriage episode break the taboo curse? These guys (the UB staff) have danced around the idea enough and proverbially skated over the edge at times. Look at Bradford’s death. That to me was the “Santos’ getting shot” ep. for season 2. Archie is awesome. Bar none. What’d really be a trip to me is if he had a campaign song of “Learn To Fly” by Foo Fighters or something. B)-~~~ Just food for thought, I guess. =^.~=
ah, but weddings boost ratings! besides, we all know that molly’s upcoming doom. If daniel is a happy married man, then the show is over.
p.s. I love the A-Rod you can count on!
Haha! Yeah but if Molly dies on her wedding day to Daniel, does that mean the Meade family are jinxed at throwing weddings? Two deaths in two weddings with tragedy to both father *and* son Meade? That’d be enough to haunt Daniel forever and throw him back into old habits for keeps. Haha! Like they say, cross me once shame on you…
