Silvio Horta on Ashley Jensen: No Story Lines

Remember those stories early on when we discovered that Ashley Jensen was leaving Ugly Betty, the ones that said her main reason for leaving was that she wasn’t happy about the move to New York City from Los Angeles?
The show’s creator, Silvio Horta, told UK tabloid The Sun that, as reported, the split was mutual, but the reason was actually the lack of good story lines for Ashley’s character Christina.
“From the get-go, we found some really good stories for her, but we never found enough to service her character the way we wanted to and the way that she wanted,” Horta said.
Then, he said something that sounded eerily familiar.
“She wanted to do more, but it was difficult with a large ensemble like this to give her more. I hope in the future she’ll come back. She’s an important part of the show.”
Hmmm. Chris Gorham. Rebecca Romijn. Now, Ashley Jensen.
Horta is starting to sound like a character from the Sopranos. 
Beware, if Silvio ever says how important you are to the show, and how he hopes you’ll be back!
So, I guess Freddy Rodriguez is safe?
Anyway, from all the reports I’ve seen, it definitely was a mutual parting, so it’s hard to be too angry about it. Ashley is an incredible actress, and like Gorham and Romijn, she’ll be starring in another show in no time.
And, she can stay in LA!

no storylines for ashley? hah, that’s hard to believe coming from horta. seriously i am losing faith in this guy more and more. i’m sure if the fans were the writers, we would’ve came up with some storylines for her, as well as having her interacting with everyone. so how can the writers NOT give her something other than this baby mama drama plot with willie and marc? all i can say is this is LAME coming from the writers.
How come you don’t mention the shocking statement about Daniel nd Betty never becoming a romandic couple!! I literally hated Horta for saying this!!!!!
Anne, to be fair, they’ve been saying this all along (including America Ferrera and Eric Mabius). I’ve reported it so many times, it just goes without saying now.
Plus, they could just be lying so we’ll be absolutely shocked when it happens.

I don’t get it. Yes, L.A. has nice weather but I’d never give up what NYC has to offer in terms of culture for L.A.! Is it because L.A. is the place to be for actors looking for bigger and better opportunities in movies? NYC is still the place to be but I guess that goes for anyone except actors?
I’m sorry to see Ashley go. Maybe she and Ricky Gervais can take their Brit act on the road and bring it here as a network sitcom. Hey, it worked for Whose Line Is It Anyway?

No! Its because LA has more of a MEXICAN-AMERICAN aesthetic to DRAW GOOD STORIES FROM! Gah! I get so *annoyed* when people just take something at face value. ( =^.~= @ Silvio) B)-~~~ *thumbs up* What I’m now seeing is how we can make a breakout star of America instead of all her fair-complected castmates that conveniently become more successful after leaving the program. Is UB the new AI or something? Haha! It’s not gonna happen America *just* making cameo appearances in female Adam Sandler (Sarah Silverman?) movies ala’ Henry Winkler after the show is inevitably cancelled after season googleplex. That’s not gonna work for me. She deserves better than that. You’re damn right I play hardball. I’d expect the same of my peoples to do on my behalf. *shushes* The show belongs in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco because those are places that have districts familiar to Mexicans. That is what the Suarez family are. Chicano. Why not have 70’s band Redbone guest star on there? Rock band Blackfoot? Carlos Santana? Journey? Doobie Brothers! DeBarge! The Jets! Lisa Lisa even. Someone that represents the flavor of Betty’s upbringing. This isn’t a Dumb and Dumber Aspen soiree where Betty killed the rare snow owl. Much to the chagrin of Matt’s mom. Ya heard?! O.O!!!!!!

Tom , I believed that you were a Detty fan, (especially when you posted a video from the German version of Ugly Betty) and that’s why I thought that you would mention it..Cause it’s another think Eric to say that this would jump their shark and a very different one the creator of the show to say they are like brother and sister…(obviously he doesn’t have sister!)
Anyway, I’m just very disapponted that’s way I react like this..
Also, I think that Eric Mabius has said things that made us think that the Detty will happen…Such us this statement:
“I don’t see how it can’t happen but we don’t know that yet. I certainly think it’s possible because there’s an inevitable trust that’s established, and admiration and confidence in one another as people. You see that Betty and Daniel make one another better, who they are, more complete. It’s like she has a gap and I have a gap and together we sort of create this whole. When things get charged and excited like that, of course the emotional attachments are inevitable. But I’m not writing the show.”
