Ugly Betty Episodes 3.23 and 3.24 Press Release
May 4, 2009 by Tom
Here is the press release for the Ugly Betty Season 3 finale (which is two episodes back-to-back). 3.23 is entitled “Curveball”,and 3.24 is “The Fall Issue”.
Fair warning: the synopses are quite spoiler-ish about things that will happen in the next two episodes, so turn ye back, all who are spoiler-averse! You have been warned.
The synopses:
Ugly Betty” concludes the season with a shocking two-hour telecast, THURSDAY, MAY 21 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. In the first hour, entitled “Curveball” (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), just as Betty agrees to move in with Matt, Henry (guest star Christopher Gorham) pays a visit to NYC, forcing Betty to admit she still has feelings for her former fiance. Meanwhile, Betty and Marc wait to see if their YETI editor interviews resulted in actual jobs; Daniel’s transformation from playboy to devoted husband makes him a media darling; and Wilhelmina cozies up to Victoria Hartley to find out just what kind of connection Claire Meade has to Cal Hartley.
In “The Fall Issue” (9:00-10:00 p.m.), the sudden death of a Mode editor leaves Betty and Marc competing for the same job. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina demands that Claire tender her resignation at a big awards ceremony . . . or she’ll reveal Claire’s dark secret to Cal Hartley; Matt lets his jealousy over Henry get the best of him; and Justin nervously waits to see if he got into performing arts school.
Pardon my quoting the promos for last season’s finale, but…
OMG.
OK, first, about Claire and the Hartleys. I haven’t even had a chance to post about this yet, but apparently ABC execs stopped a story line about a supposed affair between Claire and Victoria from making it to the air. At least that’s the story. I’m not so sure, though. These hints sure make it seem like it might be “the deep, dark secret” after all.
So, Betty and Matt plan to move in together. Second verse, same as the first. I wonder how Ignacio will react to that one. He didn’t do so well the first time with Henry. I seriously doubt the extra zeros in the bank account will make much difference. (Speaking as a father)
Henry’s storyline will last at least these two episodes, it seems. I don’t know if he’s actually IN both episodes (he isn’t listed in the guest star list of either one – only in the synopsis of “Curveball”).
You guys were right – it’s an unknown, unseen editor who falls to his/her death in “The Fall Issue”. As much as I like Marc, I’d say the odds are pretty good that Betty gets the editor job. THAT will be awesome.
I can’t tell you how weird that feels, reading “Daniel’s transformation from playboy to devoted husband…” That storyline will provide this year’s “Santos gets shot” moment that was just plain missing from last season’s finale. No matter what you think of Molly,I’d advise an extra box of tissues.
AND, Justin had better get into performing arts school. We could have some real “Fame” moments next season.
For what it’s worth, Silvio Horta wrote “The Fall Issue” himself.
This is going to be the finale we were hoping to have last season, I think.

Am I insane, or were Henry and Betty never actually engaged? I know she didn’t say no right away, but she didn’t say yes either… so he’s not her “former fiance,” but whatever, I’m just glad he’s back. I wonder if he will be in both episodes. The descriptions make it sound like he will.
I wonder why he comes to NYC? Just a vacation?
And yay, an actual Justin story line
All this news is great. The Claire/Wilhelmina/Hartley blackmail storyline really has my excited. So does Molly die in either episode. I hope so. Not so Daniel will be sad, but because we haven’t had a “tragic” death this season. Afterall, I’m sure we will all pretty much agree that we are happy that the editor falls out of MODE, since it will help Betty.
so im thinking that Daniel is a Hartley more than ever now, i read that on the daniel/betty community and it seems plausible!! looking forward to the Willie/Claire/Victoria blackmail thing though cuz i no vanessa said that her and christine are singing(awesome)!! Betty moving in with matt is going to be interesting and henry coming back is a little fuzzy to me! on the other hand i do think that marc deseves the promotion i mean hes been slaving for willie for 4 years and from some of the promo piks it seems like he is getting it!!daniel/molly i cant help but to feel bad for him does anyone get a love intrest that they can keep jeesh
Thank for the spoiler.I just surprise Betty agrees to move in with Matt, who she feeling for her former fiance and I hope Betty get the editor job.Cant wait watch when come on for Season Finale in 3 weeks *excited*.
ah ha! so betty’s new boss is MARC!!!!! Marc is more qualified than betty.
The spoilers are awesome, but I’m really worried about this Betty/Matt/Henry thing. I really want Betty and Matt to make it; Henry already had his shot and it just didn’t work.
I definitely think that the Cal Hartley and Claire Meade connection has a LOT of dramatic promise, though! I can’t wait to see what happens there.
And… I agree with the person who said YAY! to a Justin storyline – I LOVE Justin, and would be so happy to see that happen. I think it’s likely he will get into the school – it would be a great set-up for next season’s musical episode!
As a side note to my previous post regarding the Betty/Matt/Henry thing, I just found this article:
http://tvguide.sympatico.msn.ca/Beautified+Betty/TVNews/Articles/090502_ugly_betty_spoilers_AD.htm?isfa=1
And I suddenly feel a little less scared of Henry’s cameo.
I’m thinking that the secret that Wilhelmina will hold over Claire’s head is much more likely NOT to be that Daniel is Cal’s son, but that Claire had been involved with Victoria. Just add up the little clues:
1. There is a scene in which Claire and Victoria sing together, so they must be on friendly terms, which I doubt they would be if Claire had had a history with Victoria’s ex-husband.
2. There is a scene in which one of the women (Victoria, I believe) plays tennis with Billie Jean King… ’nuff said.
The one thing that makes me dubious of this, though, is that I wouldn’t think that Claire would care too much about people finding out about a fling with Victoria. At least, not enough for her to give Wilhelmina an upper hand over Daniel and Alexis’s best interests at Meade Publications. We’ll see soon enough.
So are people actually guessing that Claire had a relationship with Victoria Hartley? I can’t see Claire in a lesbian relationship… That seem a little out of character (Unless drunk?) I’m more leaning to Daniel being Cal’s son, that storyline would have more potential in my opinion. =\
Thanks for mentioning that Horta wrote the finale himself, Tom. He doesn’t have the greatest track record with that IMO. I’m sure I’ll watch it anyway, though.
Has Horta written both “Curveball” and “The Fall Issue”?
Curveball was written by Tracy Poust and John Kinnally. Poust and Kinally wrote some of the more soapy episodes: Betty’s Wait Problem, Crush’d, along with one of the funnier episodes (IMHO), Bananas For Betty. They also wrote A Tree Grows in Guadalajara.
M, to be fair, Horta did write The Pilot, The Box and The Bunny, East Side Story, Posh Wedding, Jump (OK, forget that one), and The Manhattan Project.
B, no sign of Brian Tanen
um SirLizard i could have sworn that Vanessa Williams stated in her interview that she and Christine Branski(Victoria) are the ones singing “The man who got away” just sayin it was on TVguides website! and also victoria and wilhelmina are playin tennis so..
Just saw the article that mjade2 posted… I kind of thought Henry looked a little different from some of the promo pictures I saw..a little more updated & hip. Is that what’s going to attract Betty to Henry again?? Although the releases were mentioning that Henry is going to “FORCE” Betty to admit that she still has feelings for him. Henry always seems to come back & cause some emotional upheaval for Betty & assumes she will choose him. I’m sure she still has feelings for Henry and will struggle who her heart belongs to, but you know in the endgame she will be with Matt. Because of this, Matt will probably struggle dealing with his jealousy over Henry. Altho he has his own hangups, I kind of feel sorry for him as we know how much he really cares for Betty. I think in a way Betty has changed a little since Henry left (altho some people might not think so)…getting her own apartment (altho it didn’t last long), getting into YETI, even becoming friends with Marc & Amanda.. I don’t think these things would have happened if she was still with Henry. Looking forward to this episode & having some closure between Betty & Henry. I’m assuming we won’t have another cliffhanger regarding her relationships like last season. BTW, why do they keep saying that Henry is her former fiance, as she didn’t really accept his marriage proposal?
Don’t know what to make with the Meade/Hartley/Willi storyline??
So what role would Alexis play in regards to the Hartley family? Haha! I mean Alex was the oldest son after all. Whose the Mode editor falling from a window? Aren’t there only two? You can’t just kill one of them off like that. It serves no purpose. Betty’s whole job is to look after Mode and make sure Bradford’s last wish is fulfilled. How good would she be at her job if someone dropped dead on her watch? Again I ask: Is that the whole point? To make Betty look ugly? This sounds like (no offense intended) but carpetbagger shenanigans of intimidation, character assassination and imminent (see: thwarted as I speak) attempt at Jedi slaughter by way of Sith inflitration. This is what I see next season for Betty and Matt’s relationship if Cal Hartley takes over Mode:

Why should Daniel die? Huh? Why should Betty feel guilty *if* he dies? >..< Or what is a reversal of blackball fortune and worse than a woman, what about apostles scorned?
Gio Bravo,
Major publications have many editors. I think that you’re thinking of Mode’s Editors-in-Chief, of which there are only two, but most magazines have multiple departments and features, so each on has its own editor.
The editor who plunges to her death will be played (I’m certain) by Rachel Dratch, who will also play the ill-fated editor’s twin sister in the episode.
I don’t think that anyone dropping dead is a reflection on Betty, though. I don’t know how you’re interpreting it that way. She has nothing to do with it.
As for the rest of your questions… I am at a loss to answer any of them. Maybe if I take a few Ambien, or something, I might have a revelation.
I haven’t been watching lately, I don’t know who the Hartleys are or anything like that, but I was so happy to read that Chris is coming back for the finale! Henry was my favorite character on the show, and I felt that they completely ruined his character towards the end of season 2. This sounds like it will be Henry and Betty’s final closure, which is fine with me because I was never expecting him to be back so I’m just really happy about that.
I’m also very curious to see this makeover he’s talking about!
Well thanks for that, Liz. Anyways, what I meant to say was cut out somehow. That >..< thing had a whole lot more to say in between it but I guess when you have words in between they get cut out? I had multiple angry faces in my comment. Basically I compared Betty to Rocky Balboa and said how Matt’s family coming in, her competition with Marc at YETI is like Rocky V where the hero took on Tommy Gunn. The Meade publishing empire to me is like Pauly saying they don’t sweat these people. Now Betty has to stand up and say “why don’t you try knocking me down?” It just seems bizarre to me that where Betty defends against people trying to take over in Betty La Fea, here she’s basically dating the son of family trying to overthrow the company. What gives? Daniel or Claire better get it all in writing that they’ll be compensated before tendering their resignations. B)-~~~
