Ugly Betty Spoilers: That Bunny Suit Gives Daniel a Rasche
March 26, 2009 by Tom
EW’s Ausiello has a couple of Ugly Betty spoilers today. First, in his Ask Ausiello column, comes this little tidbit:
Now, the bad news: Daniel is going to have to sell his soul to bail out Meade. And by sell I mean dress up in a bunny costume at the behest of some rich tycoon named Hartley. Oh, how the boring mighty have fallen.
Does that last sentence mean we can count Ausiello amongst those who are tired of the Daniel / Molly pairing? Although, I don’t think Daniel himself has been boring; it’s been interesting watching him grow. But, the writers seemed to have been biding their time till they can get to a good dying scene during May sweeps.
Anyway, at first I wondered if the bunny costume was figurative, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be literal. That leaves two questions:
1) I wonder how much the scene in question will mirror Betty’s humiliation scene during the photo shoot in the series pilot?
2) Which Hartley will it be? Victoria, Matt’s dad, or Matt himself? (Matt would be highly unlikely, though). OK, I’ll add a third:
3) If it’s Victoria, will the bunny suit be part of some weird … uh … situation? Don’t laugh – remember the “furry” episode on CSI Mothership ?
I digress. Speaking of Matt’s dad, in a casting scoop post from Ausiello, we find out who was cast in the role. It’s David Rasche, who is a veteran of many shows, including L.A. Law, Suddenly Susan, All My Children and many others. Ausiello describes the role as “Branson-esque”. As in Richard Branson of Virgin, well, everything.
So, if Matt’s dad, Cal, is a jet-setting, adventure-loving entrepreneur, and since Victoria has already shown a cruel streak, we pretty much can guess which Hartley will make Daniel get his bunny on.
Interesting things to ponder during the hiatus…

Here is a video of David Rasche, from his stint on All My Children last year.

See? now ok, this to me begs one question: Why is it that whenever you see a latino/chicano on television or in movies or TV its always with like a mormon or something? Does everything revolve around Napoleon Dynamite? I think had Bradford Meade not died, he would have approved of Betty being with Gio instead of Matt because as Claire would probably see had she more screen time, he’s just like a young Brad Meade. Not afraid to take chances, inspires others and isn’t afraid to show what he’s made of as a self-motivator provided the moment presents itself. Now we see that Daniel has to be in a bunny suit just to save Mode? Whose writing this stuff and how are they in any authority to do so? Are they Latin? Native American? French? German? Jewish? If any of the above applies then why is this show now being made prolly by people who only calls themselves that on cruise ships but otherwise are white for sake of “image” and “status?” No son of Bradford Meade would grovel. That is unheard of. To put that in shows how little haters of this program must have between the legs. If anything, I would think Daniel Meade would have anger control and privacy issues because of all the stressful crap being piled on top of him. Right now he should be in a lamborghini taking a midnight ride like Stallone in Rocky IV. Dancing in a barn like Kevin Bacon in Footloose. Hell, he even looks like Bacon’s character a bit with similar haircut. THAT is what would *sincerely* go on at Mode against crap like this. What, are people just lying down and letting the show die like the Hair Metal Power Ballad era never occurred? Why? The money can’t be *that* good in an economic crisis. It was *worse* in the era I’m talking about with Reganomics and Nicaragua. Betty needs reinforcements and there’s only one place to go: *Hard Times in El Barrio by Jose Feliciano plays offscreen*
In general, the word “tycoon” usually seems to be used for men, not women, so from the way Ausiello’s sentence is worded, I’m pretty sure it’s Cal, not Victoria, who sets out to humiliate Daniel. Plus, tycoons are usually portrayed as being used to getting whatever they want, believing that they can convince or force anyone to do anything. I wonder if Daniel will be dressing up as a furry little woodland creature kind of bunny or in drag as a Playboy bunny… The latter has precedence in six (so far) of the international versions, in which Daniel’s counterpart loses a bet and has to go to a bar dressed in drag: see http://sirlizard.prohosts.org/the-guys.html
Yes but how many of those countries from the 6 international series’ have at one point or another contacted the United States for financial bailout within the last 30+ years since amnesty of Vietnam draft dodgers? That’s the key question. Another question to ask, provided someone would mind listening and not go outside to drink black coffee and smoke cigarettes between bible study breaks, is how many of the countries allegedly holding all the financial cards now do you think would be able to compete with the United States if Bill Clinton were not impeached and was still president until recently like FDR for 4 terms followed by Obama as Harry Truman? If you can tell me that 9/11 and such played no part in Columbia and other countries now whitewashing everything since Star Wars was released in 1977 then one thing is for certain: You’re more full of it than I am and must know by comparison that in context, I’m just Beaver Cleaver to your Marlon Brando or James Dean.
As the great JR Ewing would say: “Its just business.”
“business” being a motto perhaps that Bradford Meade himself would drink to.
