Ausiello Ugly Betty Spoiler: I Told You So Edition!

March 19, 2009 by Tom

1107q6 jensen b gr 07 EW’s Ausiello addresses an Ugly Betty question in his Ask Ausiello column, and I’d be remiss, even with everything that’s going on, if I didn’t pass it along.

Question: Is Ugly Betty killing off Ashley Jensen? –Henry
Ausiello:
Nah. My Ugly mole assures me that a much happier
ending awaits Cristina. One that involves a kidnapping, a medical test, and a reunion with the two men in her life.

So, those lingering doubts I had in the back of my head about the writers killing off Christina are turning out to be needless.  They aren’t going to kill her off, they are going to do something with her character that I predicted (tentatively pats self on back).

So, those of you who read this blog regularly know my recent theories about Christina and baby William.  And a long time ago, ONE of you added a suggestion that Stuart might also be involved, and YOU were apparently right!

Read on after the jump for discussion!

So, my theory about Christina kidnapping the baby is going to come to pass.  But Ausiello hints at something very interesting.  Apparently, a bit of trickery might have been involved.  If they are testing, my guess is that the child might not be Bradford’s and possibly not even Wilhelmina’s!    Now, I’m trying to see how that’s possible, because there was a scene last season when we literally saw the implantation take place in the doctor’s office, with Wilhelmina there.

I don’t know how they did it, but I think the child is wholly Christina and Stuart’s.

That should make for an interesting finale…

I think that your theory was similar to the one that I posted back in the fall about the baby really being Christina and Stuart’s baby. I also thought that perhaps the baby’s stem cells, or something like that, could be used to save Stuart’s life. This is what I wrote:

“I’ve been thinking that the baby that Christina is carrying may turn out not to be the spawn of Bradford and Wilhelmina. I think that a very white baby will be born, which will cause suspicion, and tests will reveal that the baby is actually Christina and Stuart’s child. After the shock wears off, the baby will be a comfort for Christina and will help her to accept Stuart’s impending death. It would also then be possible, depending on the specifics of Stuart’s illness, that the baby’s bone marrow or stem cells might be used to save his life. Or perhaps Wilhelmina would try to hide the fact that the baby isn’t hers by giving the newborn a drug that would darken the pigment of his/her skin. After the truth would be revealed, whether right after birth or after Wilhelmina’s cover-up is exposed, Wilhelmina would no longer be an equal partner with Daniel. She would only control half of Alexis’s 50% interest in the company, so she’d have to go back to square one in her attempts to take over the Meade empire. Now, medically speaking, I don’t know if this twist would be possible. From what I’ve read, the doctor would have given Christina a complete examination before implanting the embryo in her womb. These tests would have revealed whether or not she was already pregnant. I suppose its possible that they implanted the embryo in her, then she unknowingly miscarried, and then got pregnant by Stuart.”

LOL – to be fair, I think a lot of people had that theory about Christina and Stuart. I also read it over at the B&B community by some members some time ago, at the end of Season 2, actually.

  3. Nanyscia says:

I really hope that won’t come up to be true. This would make meaningless a full season! I mean, we saw Wilhelmina’s awareness as a mother growing this year, not to mention the recent remark about the meaning of being parents not be actually biological parents (that great speech Christina made to Amanda in episode 3.17) – actually, that would be meaningful only for the kidnapping storyline -. Besides, I just don’t know how they could explain the whole thing in a believable way.
And last, since everyone of us is expecting this, there will not be any surprise. But I know and love this show for its unpredictability, so..

  4. Jessica King says:

If go to true about Christina kindnapping the baby William without Wilhemina know, but we will find out soon

  5. Beatrice B says:

If that happens then that will be once again the show deleting everything that was started in season 2. I hope they leave William with Willy.

(anyway I am still upset that Christina is leaving)

Just thought I’d let everyone know that they made a new Mode After Hours, “Big Package” on their website! Best yet… Maybe. (?)

OMG on tonights preview for the next episode auiselllo might be right cuz this guy was saying how the baby looks like christina and not Willie, Willie made a face and said “we need to find out whose really the mother of this child” OMG if they take away the baby from willie whats going to happen like the whole baby situation made her nicer and more human and shes lost connor, her stuff, mode isnt doing well and now the baby i mean i no she wasnt the nicest but now she has NOTHING dont do it OMG i hate the writers , will she still be co-editor OMG OMG OMG i hate this damned HITAUS

  8. Timmeh! says:

This baby issue should be VERY interesting. It is the main thing I am looking forward to in the return. Can’t wait to see more Christina, until we lose her.

  9. angie says:

In the first place, I thought the whole way that Wili’s baby was ‘conceived’ was a joke. Stealing Bradford’s sperm just to make a baby?! The minute they introduced that storyline, it was obvious they were opening the door for ANYTHING to happen.

With that in mind, it doesn’t surprise me that the writers are bringing up the question of parentage now. In fact, I think the general audience should have expected that this could happen.

  10. KegRed06 says:

It doesn’t suprise me that this is where its heading…it’s been atopic on a lot of the UB discussion boards for a while but I have to say I am not looking forward to this storyline one little bit. This is just going to push it back to Willie having no control and trying to push in and I think that’s been more than covered in series 1 and 2

See, I don’t really see this as a problem of ‘redundancy’. The truth is, nothing should be totally resolved until the show ends – not for Betty or any character. There constantly needs to be some kind of tension that keeps the show going. And with that in mind, Wilhelmina has to be kept on her toes, or else – what’s really left to challenge her in her profession? Right now, the one thing that’s made up the bulk of her current storyline is her romantic life – and I don’t think that’s enough. We need to see that ‘fire’/’spirit’ that makes her what she is – and we usually see that when she’s competitive.

Besides, this rivalry between her and the Meades was never over to begin with. It was just swept under the rug temporarily. Remember what happened at the end of ‘Betty Suarez Land’, when Claire gave Wili the share that Alexis has in the company? Wili told Marc that wasn’t enough, and she wanted more. Basically, she wouldn’t be happy until she had Daniel’s share as well.

And I doubt the writers have forgotten that.

  12. SirLizard says:

Well, from that preview, it looks like they’re going to give Ashley Jensen some meaty scenes before she makes her departure. May 7 can’t get here quickly enough for me!

  13. SirLizard says:

Jace, I agree with everything you’ve said, so you’ve saved me the effort of writing it myself. Wilhelmina’s attempts to take over the magazine, and now the whole publishing company, has been one of the show’s main conflicts from day one. If they were to allow Willi to remain “nice” and “human” permanently, where would the show’s conflict come from? On the original Colombian series, the wicked Daniel Valencia (Wilhelmina is his female counterpart on our show) was trying to take over Ecomoda (the show’s fashion house) throughout the entire series, leaving Armando (the original Daniel Meade) and Betty Pinzon to find ways to thwart his attempts to undermine Armando’s authority. Yes, “Ugly Betty” is a very different show, but I don’t think that the writers should simply do away with the central conflict just because we enjoy seeing Willi’s softer side. I think that seeing glimpses of humanity every now and then are more than sufficient.

  14. Timmeh! says:

In all honesty, Venessa has acted great throughout this season, but the entire reason I started watching Ugly Betty was to see Wilhelmina being evil. I love a good villain, and for a long time Wilhelmina Slater was on the top of my TV villians. Where is she now though? She’s hardly evil at all, and it can sometimes become boring. I love a GREAT conflict, and relationship conflict is only GOOD. =D

  15. Gio_Bravo says:

Haha! I think it would be great to give the baby to Christina. Then Willi will have *reason* to be evil again. Especially when now she’ll have less than at the beginning of season 2. Let the games be-gin! The question in my opinion next is: Will Marc be at her side this time? He’s become quite a character seperate from Wilhemina being chummy with Amanda and Betty. Or was that all a plot to further his career too? If the Wilhemina and Marc Legion of Doom is prepping to be amp’d up, then so too should the Superfriends of Mode staff be. Daniel, Claire, Betty and… Amanda?! I *so* want Alexis and her assistant Nick Pepper to come back. Why wasn’t John Cho given a bigger role when Henry left? We should be seeing (much like Claire during the Faye Summers trial) subplots on how to bring DJ home from France legally and what tension that’ll cause between Daniel and Alexis. If any, since Daniel will need someone after Molly dies. Is Ugly Betty now in New York to stay for filming the series? If not, perhaps Ashley Jensen will reconsider provided the program were filmed in Los Angeles where it became the most popular show on ABC. No offense but you’re kind of playing in Kimmy Keegan’s backyard filming on east coast anyways. That’s like throwing a policeman’s ball in the middle of Tony Soprano’s Badda Bing club. Its fine while lawyers are there but once they step aside to take a broker’s phonecall… for lack of a better word it becomes a Mexican standoff. Thanks, in-laws. j/k This isn’t Owens (San Fernando) Valley so don’t be all wet. Study culture and history. Specifically I’d suggest John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath or famous play Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez. When elements are applied properly, they can result in Santos as Johnny Cade and Karate Kid as Ponyboy Curtis. Capice’?
