Ugly Betty Episode 3.17 Title and Synopsis
February 11, 2009 by Tom
Here is the info recently posted about Ugly Betty episode 3.17. (Thanks SpoilerTV!). It will be entitled “Sugar Daddy”, which falls into the theories some of you have about this new Matt character.
Here is the synopsis:
THE SUAREZ FAMILY TRY TO COME UP WITH A DOWN PAYMENT FOR THEIR HOUSE, WHILE THE MODIES TRY TO COPE WITH RECENT EVENTS, ON ABC’S “UGLY BETTY”
The Suarez family try to come up with the cash to buy their rental home after their landlord decides to sell, with Ignacio even entering a TV cook-off with celebrity chef Frankie Burrata (Steve Schirripa, “The Sopranos”). Meanwhile, the Mode staff deals with the shocking aftermath of recent events.
Written by Brian Tanen
Directed by David Warren
Guest Cast
Grant Bowler as Connor Owens
Sarah Lafleur as Molly
Daniel Eric Gold as Matt
Steve Schirripa as Frankie Burrata
Mo Rocca as the host
Teddy Coluca as Mr. Delima
I LOVE the fact that Steve Schirripa is going to be in this episode as a celebrity chef! And he’ll have a cook-off with Ignacio. Awesome.
About the whole “shocking aftermath of recent events”, Sarah Lafleur is listed as a guest star in this episode, so unless she appears in a flashback or as a ghost, chances are the “recent events” do not involve Molly’s death. But then again, it fits in perfectly with everything we’ve been hearing, so she may just appear in a montage as Daniel grieves. We’ll see.
This isn’t in the ABC press releases yet (that I can find), so we haven’t got an air date. I’m assuming it’ll be March 5.

Sounds intriguing! And I love Steve Schirripa!! He’s on my guilty pleasure show, The Secret Life of the American Teenager!

Tom, did you read Ausiello’s comment last night?
Ausiello spilled some MAJOR Betty Spoilers!
Here’s the link and the quotes.

“Question: Anything good coming up on Ugly Betty that you can tease? — Sandra
Ausiello: You mean aside from a fourth season? (Phew!) Um, let’s see… someone will get married, someone will die, and Betty will find herself with a surprising new boss.”
Yeah! Brian Tanen! I love his writing. The characters are portrayed amazingly when he writes them. Which makes me a bit sad. I can BET that Matt is going to be amazing if he is working on the character. I am really looking forward to this episode mainly because I love the writer. I can bet: Betty is going to be adorable, perky and determined. I liked his Betty and Gio in “The Kids are Alright”. His Marc and Betty were amazing in “When Betty met Yeti”. I expect fireworks in this episode. Tanen, don’t disappoint me!
I just hate that it’s Matt and not Gio…
So is character Amanda Tanen’s surname name after this writer Brian Tanen ?
you guessed right, lilkunta. Amanda Tanen’s surname comes after Brian Tanen (who used to be Silvio Horta’s Betty Suarez… his personal assistant before they decided to let him write episode 2.17 The Kids are Alright (love you Brian, you wrote the best Gio!) In the ABC UB podcast of january 15 Tanen was invited and they also mentioned that they try to choose names and surnames that wouldn’t personify a person in real life or that are too common. Also Henry Grubstick comes from the David Grubstick (who is also a writer) and Gio Rossi’s last name comes also from a member of the cast (forgot if he is a set designer or what) but he also did a cameo in episode 3.07 Crushed (he’s the guy at a party that Marc cheats Cliff with).
I mean Giovanni Rossi’s first name (not last name)…
@beatrice
1st, your website name is funny. You’re a true Getty/Bio [betty gian's couple name] fan huh?
2nd: ahh thx 4 the info.
” . . . In the ABC UB podcast of january 15 Tanen was invited and they also mentioned that they try to choose names and surnames that wouldn’t personify a person in real life or that are too common. …”
Huh? They try 2 choose names that wouldnt personify a real person? How does Tanen or Grubstick or Rossi personfify or not personify?
Or do u mean that they give their names 2 ppl who totally rnt like the characters? IE Brian Tanen is sooo not a superficial shallow person like Amamda?
Thx!
woah! I made a mistake the podcast is the one published on february 6. My bad…
Thanks about the comment about our website. It’s not MY website. It’s the Getty Girls official website. I am just promoting the link under my name.

Oh! In the podcast they were trying to imply that they try not to match names of “pre-existing people” that are famous or exist in real life. That means there is no “Daniel Meade” “Marc st. James” “Hilda Suarez” that would run a lawsuit against the show for using the name or something like that. So they “clear them” until they get fake names or very common names. Honestly I don’t know how that works… no lawyer here.
Maybe some of the names are some way or the other related to their original cast parties (like the Giovanni guy). But regarding Amanda Tanen in particular, they say he pitched it and that Silvio Horta liked it right away.
Whats also funny about that podcast is that they say Becki is extremely smart and academic very un-Amanda-like.
“Marc” name might be inspired by Silvio Horta’s previous assistant (before Brian Tanen).
Podcast:

they talk about that from 3:30 until 5:30
(one of my fav podcasts)
woah! yet another podcast was released and they answered MY question! yay! *pats own head* Okay, Becki and Michael are super hilarious. Fine, they mocked my netname and my country. lol
(he’s still looking gorgeous in that picture on IMDB.com)
But okay, a big shout to Brian Tanen (love you Brian!) and two of my favorite episodes in Ugly Betty (”The Kids are Alright” and “When B met Yeti”) and… well answer: Brian Tanen is NOT married
