Ugly Betty Episode 3.16 Title And Synopsis
February 10, 2009 by Tom
Here is the info released by ABC about Ugly Betty episode 3.16. It is entitled “Things Fall Apart”. I’ll let you decide if that title is ironic, whole hiatus thing. Here is the synopsis:
Betty makes a surprising discovery when an assignment from YETI finds her and Marc analyzing Mode’s budget for the past year. Meanwhile she has to deal with increased attention from Matt (tastefully three-named Daniel Eric Gold) and the knowledge that old flame Henry has posted some unexpected news on Facebook.
I can’t WAIT to see what Betty and Marc find in the budget. Remember Wilhelmina’s trip to Mexico that Henry uncovered? Now THAT was funny.
Speaking of Henry…what the heck? Henry? Don’t get me wrong, this is actually a very good idea, production wise. Whatever the news Henry posts about, having Facebook as a vehicle allows the producers to use the Henry character, without needing the presence of Christopher Gorham, who is otherwise quite busy. (I saw the previews for Harper’s Island the other day, it looks incredible!).
So, here’s the Ugly Betty schedule, up to the hiatus:
- Episode 3.14, The Courtship of Betty’s Father, airs this Thursday, February 12
- Episode 3.15, There’s No Place Like Mode, airs February 19
- Episode 3.16, Things Fall Apart, airs February 26.
Now, the hiatus isn’t supposed to begin till March 26, right? Does that mean there’s room for more episodes before the break? Or am I missing something?
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the (virtual) return of Henry!

From Tom – “Speaking of Henry…what the heck? Henry?”
Well, why not, right? After all, Henry was Betty’s first major love – not to mention, he proposed marriage. (Sorry – I don’t really consider Walter as her true ‘first’, since it looks like he and Betty were just ‘going through the motions’ of being a couple.) So, if the writers are looking for a vehicle to move things along (most probably with Matt and/or any future romance), I can’t think of any better way to do that than for Betty to find out something surprising about her old flame.
And to me, finding out that he ended up marrying someone else – especially his baby momma – would certainly qualify as a great way to get things moving.
BTW, last week, someone asked Kristen at E! Online about her opinion on “Harper’s Island”, and um…being that she usually gushes on about Mr. Gorham, I was surprised to read this from her:
“Honestly? The first episode is 42 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. I love Chris Gorham. I cannot endorse this series. Sorry!”
OUCH! O.O
I gotta admit that Henry was a major character in Ugly Betty and the first person Betty really fell in love with. I know Gorham is busy with his new series but I have no idea why the UB-Horta people couldn’t even feature him on episode 1 (they used a double for the shot of his hands and old shots of Henry) and why they insist in bringing his name (just his name) back into play just to push Matt (New love interest) into scene. Are they so desperate trying to make former Benries keep watching the show just like they tried to do with Getties by making Rodriguez film that only episode this season?
That is totally dirty and lame. They could have bring him as guest star at least for an episode. I claim this is unfair and I am not even a Benry fan. But I am really mad at the producers. Playing with viewers like that… ridiculous.
From Beatrice – “Are they so desperate trying to make former Benries keep watching the show just like they tried to do with Getties by making Rodriguez film that only episode this season?”
I really don’t think that’s the case at all. As mentioned earlier, bringing back Henry in this capacity makes sense. He really doesn’t need to appear on the show again, since both he and Betty have moved on in different directions – he wants to take care of his child, and she wants to stay in NYC. In fact, after the S3 premiere, I didn’t think it was necessary for him to reappear again.
However, the writers can still use Betty’s history with him to move the current plot forward. Now, that may seem unfair to ‘use’ Henry like that, but the show has to move forward. So, why not have a little continuity by touching on Betty’s old feelings for Henry? If that helps bring her and Matt closer together (or whatever), then I say do it. To me, that’s a lot better than having the writers completely ignore or forget that Henry ever existed. By mentioning him now in some capacity, it shows that the writers are ‘connecting the dots’ between the past and the present somehow. (Almost like the whole Dr. Burke/Dr. Yang storyline on “Grey’s Anatomy”.)
Really? Is it *that* hard to bring him in, even for a day or to, to NYC to film an actual appearance? Couldn’t they even tape him on a green screen in LA and make it look like he’s in NY? Ugh. And since when is Betty on Facebook? And since when is she still talking to/ in contact with Henry, considering his name hasn’t been mentioned in so long? And please don’t make him engaged
Ugh, the return of Henry this way is practically worse than no return at all!
Seriously, I agree with Jace. Henry doesn’t need to make a personal appearance on the show anymore. The Season 3 premiere all but closed his storyline with Betty. I think it suffices just to mention him, if only in passing on Facebook.
And, hey – what’s so weird about Betty being on Facebook? I have several working friends who have accounts on that site, and they usually don’t surf the Internet much.
Deb – it’s unusual because Disney and the producers have in the past famously made up fictional websites (soCuteItsSick.com , DudeCruise.com), then bought and parked those domains.
This is the first time I can remember them actually incorporating a real site into the story lines.
BTW, if anyone wants to friend me on facebook:

But, expect mostly updates about what my kids are doing
I think you got me wrong. I am not rooting for Henry to return back at all. I am a pro-Gio fan. What I am telling is that, even though some of you insist that UB-Horta people are all nice and are doing this purely to give continuity on the show (which they don’t seem to be doing at ALL this season), I chose to believe they are doing this to sort-of keep viewers hooked on their ships and avoid desertion from the viewer’s rating ranks. Remember those lame promos all summer talking about “who will Betty choose Gio or Henry”? They knew she didn’t chose either of them but they kept shippers hooked till the very end. That interview with America and that interview with Horta, the interviews inside the season 2 DVD… all misleading. Other show producers are clear and firm in their decisions “Yes we killed that character, so what?!” When they are asked about something they clearly support their own decisions. UB-Horta people seem quite afraid to give a declaration about the fate of Gorham and Rodriguez NOT appearing any more this season. In fact they are very cautious and misleading in their declarations.
What I mean, if they are going to keep the fans hooked, at least do it with style and firmly.
Which still makes me think, is Betty going to focus on her career or go back to romance this season?
I think that we’ll be getting three additional episodes before the hiatus: March 5, 12, and 19. That will leave five consecutive episodes for the post-hiatus season wrap-up.
can we withhold our opinions on WHY the producers use facebook instead henry in flesh, UNTIL we see the episode? now it’s pure speculation, and why argue on speculation??
Oh I don’t know the rest. But I just love overanalyzing. It’s part of the fun!
Even if they wanted to use Christopher Gorham in the flesh, and even if they could minimize the necessity of his presence to one or two days of filming, it doesn’t mean that he would be available. One or two days might not be difficult for someone like me to set aside, but I think that between filming, interviews, and family obligations, Chris Gorham probably has a much tighter schedule than most of us.

LOL, I take it you don’t visit a lot of UB forums/discussion boards. That’s what most fans do in other places- speculate and theorize on upcoming spoilers. And why not do it? It’s really fun and interesting – especially when you realize you were right after the fact. ;D You should try it sometime.
Ok I’ve got it! Betty and Mark are going to encounter something odd/confusing in the budget, or can’t find something they need, so Betty’ll think, “Hey, I’ll contact Henry, maybe he remembers/can help.” And that’s when she sees his facebook page with whatever “shocking news.” IM DYING OF ANTICIPATION!
Tom,
A bit of correction. Willie went to Brazil not Mexico during the SWAG episode. I just watched the episode this weekend. Betty found out that Willie (MODE) paid $25,000 to Casa Brazil for ‘props and extras.’
Interesting thing about Henry & Facebook. Personally, I think it may not amount to anything. Usually, the episode descriptions are more intriguing than the show itself this season. It’s sad to say b/c UB use to be my must see show.
Teri said: “Interesting thing about Henry & Facebook. Personally, I think it may not amount to anything.”
I doubt that. I’m sure whatever it is will affect Betty in one way or another – and since Henry used to be a past love, chances are it will affect her emotionally. Sure – sometimes, the TV promos paint a more ‘dramatic’ picture than what really happens in the episode itself. However, overall, the ABC Medianet episode descriptions usually give a good, basic summary of what we actually see – without the juicy spoilers, of course. With that in mind, I don’t believe that TPTB would mention Henry’s Facebook in passing if it wasn’t meant to be important and effective in the storyline itself.
So, yup – I’m still thinking Betty will find out he’s engaged or already hitched to someone…possibly to Charlie.
I absolutely loved the song at the end of “Things Fall Apart” episode airing tonight, February 26, 2009. I am increasingly happy with the quality of the writing for this show as well as the production. It’s becoming more and more sophisticated as the characters develop. I did not foresee Conner stealing from the company and running off – that did seem a bit sudden, especially when he seemed so ensconced by Wilhelmina. In any case, I like the direction things are going and hope to watch much more regularly.
I crave this show!!! Someone please tell me the name of the last song that was played on tonights episode. February 26, 2009 (Ep 3.16)
Fall Apart” does anyone know the singer at title of that song? the episode brought me to tears at the end.
