Ugly Betty Up For People’s Choice Award
Things might be looking up for Ugly Betty. The episodes are exciting, they stopped the bleeding in the ratings (and even turned it around a little), and now, there’s an award nomination for the series. OK, it’s the People’s Choice Awards, the little brother of more prestigious television awards like the Emmys or the SAGs.
Ugly Betty is Nominated for Favorite TV Comedy.
This is a big deal (at least to the fans) because it’s the show being nominated, not perennial favorites America Ferrera or Vanessa Williams (not that they don’t deserve acting awards as well). Not only that, the competition makes me think Ugly Betty has a better that average chance of winning. Samantha Who and Two and a Half Men are nominated alongside Betty. All three get decent ratings, and none really stands out from the others. In football terminology, it’s a “tough division”.
I wouldn’t feel as good about it if this if it were an award voted on by industry people and 30 Rock was nominated. :)
There were no actor award nominations for Betty, but these things go in cycles, and the People’s Choice is all about the “hot new thing”. Congratulations, Ugly Betty!
