Here is the full recap of Ugly Betty episode 3.07 - “Crush’d”.  The synopsis:

Betty works overtime to get the attention of her cute neighbor, struggling musician Jesse (guest star Val Emmich). Meanwhile, Betty’s life gets even more complicated when a maxed out and suddenly homeless Amanda becomes her temporary roommate. And in other Mode developments, Marc vacillates when Cliff (guest star David Blue) wants them to move in together.

Of course I loved this episode.  It had the best Detty moment ever.  And every single character had a sympathetic moment.  That in and of itself made the episode memorable.

Marc’s anonymous hookup was NOT cool.  And then he overreacts with a marriage proposal?  I did like his adoption speech, though. Funny.

I can’t decide if I like vulnerable Wilhelmina.  I think I do - I’ve always had a crush on Vanessa Williams.  I like this side of her.  (Although she needs to get good and nasty again soon)

Cliff must have it bad - he’s put up with a lot.

I liked what little I heard of Val Emmich’s music.

OK, enough of my opinion.  Full recap after the jump.

Betty looks at her watch and looks out the window. She sees Jesse walking down the street and heads downstairs to meet him.  She brings him decaf coffee and babbles almost incoherently (she’s obviously crushing on him badly). Jesse gives her a cd with a couple of his band’s songs.  She invites him to come watch TV in her apartment later.

Betty goes to work early, and Amanda is standing there, naked.  She explains that she got evicted from her apartment because she wasn’t paying her rent (she’s maxed out on credit cards).  Amanda is living at Mode at the moment.

Later, Betty is listening to Jesse’s music through ear buds, singing along loudly and badly.  Daniel walks up, she explains it’s Jesse’s band.  Daniel comments that she’s been talking about Jesse a lot.  They talk about the Fashion Heats Up party Mode is throwing, and the fact that they haven’t found a band for the event yet.  Connor walks in to a roomful of drooling women.  Daniel and Betty discuss how Daniel tricked Wilhelmina to get her to hire Connor.  Connor hand out donuts, while Wilhelmina and Marc look on disapprovingly.  But she thinks Connor is on her side.

At the next meeting between the three, however, Connor agrees with everything Daniel says.  He even changes his mind about selling some of the company’s magazines when Daniel disagrees with him.  Wilhelmina is furious.  Daniel then tells her that she’d been played.

Betty is preparing for her “date” with Jesse, with the help of Hilda and Justin.  Hilda convinces Betty that Jesse likes him.  Justin tries to help Betty with her clothes.  They leave, then the doorbell rings.  Betty answers, but it’s not Jesse, but Amanda, who has been kicked out of her temporary digs at Mode, so she has come to stay with Betty.

Betty tries to get Amanda to leave, but Amanda sweet talks her and convinces her.  She breaks off her date with Jesse.  He is feeling down because his band lost a gig, but she cheers him up.

Daniel and Connor share a drink.  Connor show Daniel a folder of ideas he has for cost-cutting, but Daniel tells him he can do what he wants, he trusts him.  They fist bump.  Wilhelmina watches this, fuming.  She asks Marc to dig up dirt on Connor.

Betty is upset that Amanda has obviously made herself at home.  She’s put pictures of herself and Marc everywhere.  Amanda sees Betty in her PJs and yells “we match!”, even though Betty is wearing flannel and Mandy is wearing skimpy underwear of similar pattern.  Then there is a montage of Amanda annoying Betty: Halston eating her lunch, hovering over her while she sleeps, then getting in bed with Betty and asking her to “tickle my back and tell me I’m pretty” which Betty, amazingly, does.

The next day, as Christina and Betty are talking about this and her “crush”, Amanda walks in and butts in.  Betty then notices that Mandy is wearing one of her leggings as a dress.  Amanda tries to guess who Betty’s crush is, but she’s totally wrong.  However, she does have the good idea of Betty inviting the crush to the upcoming Mode party.

Cliff and Marc have some lovie-dovie small talk, and then Cliff asks Marc to move in with him.  Marc’s demeanor changes,  Wilhelmina calls him, and he uses that as an excuse to slither away.

Betty starts to invite Jesse to the Fashion Heats Up party (for global warming awareness), but Jesse misunderstands her and thinks she’s invited his band to PLAY the party.  He tells her she cheered him up from depression, and says she’s a “snow day”.

The next day Betty tries to tell Daniel she’s found someone to play the party, but Daniel says they’ve already booked Mariah Carey (thanks to Connor).  Betty tries to get him to change his mind and instead book Dark Sexual Journey (Jesse’s band), but Daniel rightly mocks her.

Later, Amanda makes the bright suggestion that they throw an after-party on their roof, allowing Jesse to play THERE, and charging cover to help pay off Amanda’s bills.

Marc tells Amanda he’s having mixed feelings and serious doubts about his relationship with Cliff getting so serious.  Wilhelmina then interrupts them and asks Marc for the dirt he’s dug up on Connor.  She has Marc set up a meeting with Connor later that evening.

Claire complains about the cost-cutting measures Connor is implementing to Daniel, and he assures her everything is all right.  She tells him to be careful, and lets him know that Connor is meeting privately with Wilhelmina.  Daniel is worried about this.

Amanda “fixes” Betty’s flyers for the party.  She makes them more vague and mysterious, and soon everyone wants to be on the party guest list.  300 people end up on the list.

Wilhelmina and Connor meet.  He notices she’s rubbing her head, and tells her he can fix her headache.  He rubs her hand, and flatters her (seemingly reading her mind).  He stands close to her and asks if she has any scotch.    He pours it and hands her a glass.  She takes it, and they have a seductive glance.  They then share a passionate kiss, but we soon discover that the kiss was a Wilhelmina fantasy.  She ends the meeting abruptly, telling him she “has a dinner”.

Papi is a little perturbed that he has to cater a party for 300 people.  Justin suggests they decorate “budget” - cheap is the new chic.  He suggests a “south of the border” theme.  Betty thanks the family for helping, saying they are like a “total snow day”.

Marc asks Wilhelmina how the blackmailing of Connor went.  She ignores him and asks about her schedule.  She tells him she didn’t do it - it wasn’t the time.  Connor walks in and asks how her dinner went.  As he leaves - Marc figures out that Wilhelmina likes Connor.  Upon hearing this, (although it’s true) Wihlhelmina tries to get hold of herself and goes back to her original plan.  She plans to blackmail Connor at the party.

Marc tries to walk past Cliff, but Cliff notices him.  Cliff asks why he won’t talk to him about moving in.  Marc admits that it’s a big decision, and goes into a speech about how it’s like deciding to adopt a child (Russian? Chinese?  What if it clashes with your colors?)  Cliff sees through this and walks away, saying he’s pretty much gotten his answer.

Daniel starts to wonder why Connor is no longer calling him back.  Connor finally left a message, saying he’d meet Daniel at the after party.  Daniel then sees on the TV in the limo that Connor is indeed selling off some of Meade’s magazines.

The party is a big hit (if not a little kitschy).  Money is flying everywhere.  Betty finds Jesse, but he doesn’t want to perform; he’s extremely nervous.  Betty gives him one of her patented pep talks, and Jesse says she’s beautiful.

As Marc is discussing with Mandy the fact that he’s conflicted about moving in with Cliff, he spies a man across the room, apparently checking him out.

Jesse then plays a ballad dedicating a song to “someone special” (supposedly betty), a song called “Snowy Day”.  Hilda later tells Betty to go ask him out.

Wilhelmina sees Connor walk in, as does Daniel.  Wilhelmina then gets tough and tries to blackmail him.  But, they are interrupted by Daniel telling Connor he’s onto him for double-crossing him.  Connor then tells them both off, calling them “children”.  He tells Daniel that selling a couple of magazines makes sense, and he tells Wilhelmina she has nothing on him that isn’t already out there.

Betty opens her door to ask Jesse out, only to find him inside, kissing Amanda.  Betty calls Amanda the worst roommate ever, and tells her to leave.

As Connor has a drink, Wilhelmina walks up and apologizes.  He accepts, and they have a friendly moment.  He then says he has to take a call from his fiance.  Wilhelmina stands there stunned.

Marc leaves the stranger’s apartment, they had obviously hooked up.  Cliff arrives, and Marc, in a moment of guilt, asks Cliff to marry him.  They hug, and Cliff is happy, while Marc looks as if he can’t believe what he’s just said.

Betty sulks (and cries) outside, and Daniel comes to talk to her.  She explains all about Jesse.  She says she should have known that when he said she was beautiful, he meant on the inside.  Daniel says, “You ARE beautiful”.  He explains that men go for the obvious.  He says it’s ok to have a crush, then repeats, “You are beautiful”.  They hug (awwwww).

Later, Amanda tries to make up with her by giving her all the money she raised.  She then says that they guy she was kissing “wasn’t worth it”.  She apologises.  Betty says she can stay awhile longer if she needs to.

As Betty goes to clean the roof, Wilhelmina is sitting there.  Willy calls her over, and they share a beer, staring out at the city.

Great ending!

LOVED this episode! There was so much emotion, a bit of romance, and, as you pointed out, one of the best Detty moments EVER!

Excited to see how the current Marc/Cliff situation turns out.

I need to watch this episode right now but I really hope this isn’t the beginning of something between Daniel and Betty. I’ll need to watch tonight’s clip myself to determine if this is really a big deal but I still want Betty to end up with Gio, not Daniel.

Loved this episode, ofcourse the main highlight really was the Daniel and Betty scene at the end <3
Those 2 are sooo meant for eachother.

And I LOVE Amanda!!! I look forward to seeing more of her and Betty working together.

Poor Willie, nothing ever goes right for her. But I did love the way the episode ended. I see that she has had a soft spot for Betty these passed couple episodes… Interesting.

absoutely appalled by the marc and cliff storyline and the fact that marc cheated on cliff with another guy. just when we thought the writers didn’t have another ridiculous storyline up their sleeves, out come this one. as a marc fan, i am not happy with the way the writers are ruining michael urie’s character and the fact they are dealing with marc and cliff’s relationship.

everyone will be saying he’s a bad person for sleeping with that guy- but frankly i have seen many tv shows in the past which have had stupid moments such as that one, and the blame lies not on the characters or the actors playing those characters, but on the writers. what on earth are trying to do to marc? make him look like a tart? i’m sorry but that was just plain madness and stupidity, not to mention it was so out of character.

as much as he is bitchy and condescending, i’d never pictured him as the type to cheat on his boyfriend. although i felt sorry for cliff too, because he is a great guy for marc, and david blue is a great actor in that role.

i’d never thought that ugly betty would get as ugly as it would with absurd storylines such as this one, as well as amanda sleeping with jesse. but the marc and cliff one took the cake. suffice to say, i will be skipping this episode from now onwards. i cannot bear to watch this one, i’m afraid.

The Daniel and Betty BEAUTIFUL scene was the best part of last nights episode. UGLY BETTY is BACK! This was the BEST episode of the season.

Viewers continued to see the softer side of Wilhelmina and saw that Amanda has a HEART underneath her witchy exterior.

Marc, boy did I want to slap him last night for cheating on Cliff; But the ADOPTION speech was funny.

I think this is the “UNOfficial” beginning of season #3 in a sense.

If the strike didn’t happen S2 would have had 22-24 episodes instead of 18.

The additional 4-6 shows would have most likely wrapped up or at least balanced out the following leftover S2/The Beginning of S3 storylines:

    The Lindsay/Kimmie Storyline, Daniel/ Daniel Jr./Alexis, Coach Tony Diaz/Hilda, The Gio/Betty/Daniel Triangle.

Now that these storylines have been wrapped up S3 can focus on the new twists and turns of Betty and Co without all of the S2 luggage i.e. The UNOfficial launch of S3.

    Well… three things

You never know with UB. Mark could have started and never finished. I mean he gave him a fake name. Let’s have a little more faith in him than that! Until he admits it, I won’t believe it.

I love this season. I much prefer the softer Willy , and Amanda and Mark liking betty.

to craig- i suppose you are right, perhaps we shouldn’t jump into conclusions but this storyline sounded terrible. well, to me it was. i hope that in the next few episodes, marc manages to redeem himself from the mess he got himself into and try to put things right between himself and cliff.

i too though also love season 3, as i have mentioned on previous occasions on this site. the cameraderie between amanda, marc and betty is great to see and i love watching moments of the trio coming together and putting their differences aside.

i also saw the preview for the next episode and it looks like it is going to be worth watching.

Craig, I think Marc finished. That’s what it looked like. Why else would the body builder guy want to know his name and looked at him the way he did when he walked out of the apartment? I guess it might have just been making out but I doubt it.

Damn it. I loved every other part of this episode except the Marc/Cliff storyline. Along with Betty, Daniel, Christina and Amanda, Marc and Cliff are my favourite characters. And my favourite couple on UB right now. It really p*sses me off that first we don’t see Cliff for ages and then when he’s finally back on screen, Marc cheats on him. Bravo writers (hence the sarcasm). Honestly.. do they really think all we want is drama? I mean come on! Yeah, we all know that Marc is really bitchy at his workplace but does he have to be like that to Cliff too? Amanda and Cliff are pretty much the only people he’s ever nice to and now he’s doing the worst thing he could possibly do to Cliff? What next, betraying Amanda? Yeah, I’m not buying this.

to leatherbee- yeah, i know. stupid timing by the writers. first, they write off cliff in the second season without any explanation as to why he was absent for the remainder of the show… and then when they bring him back, they in turn, write a storyline where marc goes behind his back and cheat on him, alas turning marc into a slutty-type of character, almost as tom put it, a stereotype of a gay person.

as much as other viewers might have found this storyline interesting, in contrast to the previous episodes this season, i don’t see anything good about it whatsoever. and why all of a sudden do this to michael urie’s character? are they trying to make him more hated now than before?

as i mentioned earlier, i still do not picture him as the type of person, who would do such a thing.

i’m glad however that as fans of this show, we choose not to buy into and go along with every idea and storyline the writers come up with, no matter how absurd and comical they are to us.
because i for one, frankly refuse to go along with this inane and terrible idea, as we know that whereas it did happen on screen, it doesn’t mean we ought to agree with it.

and i don’t agree with this rather tacky and ‘inane’ marc and cliff storyline at all.

I think we’ll be seeing Wili get nasty soon enough. I have a feeling that Connor and his fiancee are about to play the hell out of Wili and Daniel…I’m still hoping this means that we’re heading towards some hot Danimeana action.

I agree that the Detty moment was sweet and one of the best moments of the show. I even think it probably means that they will end up together. I’m still an endgame Getty Girl however… :)

I don’t like Jesse. The man is a suicidal ass pansy. The sooner they get rid of him the better.

I was mad at Marc too. He treated Cliff horribly, as he has from the beginning. Hey, maybe Gio could switch teams and start dating Cliff…At least they’d treat each other like princes! ;)

    Nov 9, 2008 at 10:52 pm

Why doubt me? He could have made out with said boy and felt bad. The said boy liked it really and wanted more Marc let it on like he was going to do more i.e. the fake name.

  • Craig
    Nov 9, 2008 at 11:19 pm

Wow. I can’t type. Trying again starting after bad.

It could have been that Marc stopped after kissing or after it got to far deep (no pun intended)). Marc said, I am working up stairs and if my boss sees I am not around - I’d be fired.

Then enter door scene. It makes sense.

    … Let’s hope.

I really enjoyed this episode.. I loved the moment between Betty and Wilhelmina… Even thought I haven’t really liked Willy… I liked the fact that they were able to share their heartaches together over a beer… As for what Marc did to Cliff.. BOOO… That was horrible on ABC’s part… At the end where Amanda makes things up with Betty… I liked that! :) It shows that Amanda really isn’t a self centered… well you know…
