Ugly Betty Episode 3.05 Live Blog

October 23, 2008 by Tom

Come and join us for here for the return of our weekly gathering of Ugly Betty fans. This week, we’ll be watching episode 3.05, “Granny Pants”.

Kimmie Keegan (guest star Lindsay Lohan) asks for Betty’s help in finding a job, Daniel tries a matchmaking service with surprising results in his “perfect” match, and Justin tries out for a Broadway musical.

Even with the Lohan craziness around this episode (the reporting of which an insider said to TV Guide, “It’s all so silly.”), the episode looks fascinating, and possibly cringe-inducing (underwear exposure in high school is akin to death).

Transcript after the jump, when available.

Kimmie pulls down her skirt. All the kids called her Granny Pants :(
7:08
Justin getting picked on by bullies, but he’s trying out for Broadway!
7:10
Now wait. Betty’s being mean to Kimmie. Just like the reports in real life. I’m getting to be convinced that today’s story in the Post was a deliberate publicity stunt.
7:12
Now Betty’s going to be nice. Makes sense, by Betty’s personality.
7:13
Commercial for Tinkerbell. THe consensus at my house is that it’s absolutely wrong that Tink can talk!
7:15
Sorry about that – I’ve been knocked offline twice.
7:16
I love mentoring Betty. WIL-HEL-MINA!
7:18

Revenge of the Pimps! Heh!

Hilda is becoming a stage mom. That might be worse than the other woman!

Daniel is going to try a matchmaker.
7:25
Uh oh. Betty’s going to rewrite Daniel’s application.
7:27
Loved the looks on Mandy’s face when presented with the cookie.
7:28
OMG – I’ll bet they matched him with Willy!!!!
7:29
Marc, Mandy, and Kimmie are ignoring Betty – sad.
7:30
OMGOMGOMGOMG!!! I KNew IT!!!! They matched Daniel with Wilhelmina!
7:31
So, does this mean they’re like on a date?
7:35
Oh, man, Betty is getting left outside.
7:35
Love the dance-off with Justin’s bully
7:37
Justin did’t get the part. But the bully is crying. Weird.
7:38
HAHAHAHA!!! The blowtorch was hilarious!
7:40
Kimmie is definitely up to no good.
7:40
[Comment From Sarah]
OMG! Was that the start of a new pairing? Danie/Willie? I could so go for that. ;) lol!
7:41
Sarah, I’m going to have to think about that one. But, Daniel and Willy proved they could work together
7:43
I don’t know if your market is showing it, but the HSM/bread commercial is creepy.
7:44
[Comment From serena]
Corbin Blue is a sight for sore eyes. Great episode so far. Alotta comedy — I’m lovin’ it :)
7:45
I wonder what’s up with this Justin storyline.
7:45
OMG, Willy seems human. Or is this a plot?
7:47
[Comment From Sarah]
Ooh! Burn!
7:48
Kimmie got Mode on Page six. I’m sorry. Now I KNOW today’s news was a publicity stunt.
7:50
Kimmie makes Betty look crazy to the Mode bunch!
7:52
[Comment From serena]
Publicity stunt fulfilled.
7:52
I wonder how Betty will get rid of Kimmie. I hate that this is happening to her.
7:55
[Comment From miss_t]
not feelin lilo
7:57

They came darned close to using my idea of making Kimmie celebrity obsessed. As it is, she’s going to be responsible for getting mode into the tabloids.

[Comment From miss_t]
thats messed up
7:59
Mean Girl.
8:00
Wow. Has an episode of UB ever ended like this?
8:02
THey’re setting up next week’s big showdown. And I still can;t get over the fact that they used the tabloids (and indirectly, the blogs) to get the “Feus” out there. Genius, but I feel used.
8:02
Eh, Feud.
8:03
[Comment From miss_t]
very geninus
8:03
Thanks for joining us this week. Lohan was pretty good as the mean girl. You really felt for Betty. I’ll have the full recap sometime tomorrow.

ahh i loved this episode! especially daniel and wilhelmina. they were perfect but they didnt make wilhelmina overly nice or sappy which was perfect. their relationship like that is perfect, any more would be weird. i think this lindsay thing was well planned.. her time on the show is enough and anymore would be boring. hilda was hilarious… anyone agree?

  2. Beatrice B says:

Greg. I concur that I loved the part of Daniel and Wilhelmina. Very nicely done (did Willy just smiled? many times! XD Vanessa Williams is gorgeous). I have always loved Wilhelmina and glimpses of her soft side is always nice to see in the show (the talking about Nico and children was really nice). And Daniel was just charming, remembering DJ and all. Now this is the type of relation that I like. War and peace. I would ship Willy and Daniel anytime. Then I´d have two favorite quarreling confrontational passionate couples to adore: Gio/Betty and Daniel/Willy. yes!

Anyway, I am glad they gave Justin and the Suarez more screen time (finally!). But Kimmi and Betty story wasn’t that entertaining for me. I did like the flashback though.

  3. Fat Carol says:

Uggh!! That was the worst ending to UB I’ve ever seen.
Why couldn’t they leave Ugly Betty free from Lohan? C’mon, ABC!! Spend your money on quality guest stars.

  4. thewaymouth says:

I agree that Daniel and Wil was a fun get-together. And Hilda is indeed the bomb.

Lindsay’s acting was flat. Lindsay’s chops are so off. And that bronzed skin – ugh. Lindsay as Kimmie is like her character from Mean Girls, but only Cady mock 2, not Mach 2, because it is Cady watered down. Kimmie is Cady all grown up, but she’s lost her mojo. She has no real flair, no heightened attitude. She’s just faking it. All the other actors bring it, and Lindsay is just boring. Lindsay just appears to be walking along while everyone else is running. And believe it or not, I am a big Lindsay Lohan fan, so this hurts all round.

I read a lot blog comments today about America being jealous of Lindsay. Gimme a break. America is one of the very best actors around right now. She is not the least bit worried her star would be overtaken by Lindsay of all people.

They booted Lindsay apparently because she was a negative not a positive, on screen and off. Sad but true… “Lindsay Lohan, you have just been run over by the Ugly Betty bus. You are the weakest link. Good-bye.”

  5. thewaymouth says:

PS From Mean Girl to Mode Girl to Old Girl… from the new face of Mode to becoming outmoded in just one week.

    :..(

  6. Jace says:

Sorry, but I wasn’t “feeling” this episode. I just couldn’t get into the Kimmie storyline like some others have. However, one of the few interesting things about this episode included that sweet conversation between Daniel and his mother. It shows that he has matured since being around DJ, and he certainly is thinking differently about relationships. Very nice.

However, I’m DEFINITELY not into the whole Daniel/Wilhelmina idea, and I seriously doubt the show would go there anyway. It’s definitely a cheesy cliche: The whole sexually tense love/hate thing – especially with them? Ha. Yeah, right. It’s nice that they came to an understanding tonight, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll meet each other’s needs.

And let’s remember this, of all things: She slept with HIS DAD and messed up his parents’ marriage! >_< That alone is enough for me gross out at the thought of them as a pair.

  7. Fen says:

This episode was so blah for me. I thought Eric Mabius’s scense were well done (and man, he looked good in those sweaters!). I love the idea of Willi and Daniel (it is a little cliche…but no more so than Daniel and Betty). I just found the fact that these mortal enemies would end up enjoying each other’s company by the end of their “date” unrealistic. Maybe this is the next phase of Willi’s master plan. Will she end up falling for him? Who knows. Hopefully UB will take it slow if that’s how they are going. They seem to be rushing through everything these days.

And don’t even get me started on LL. Her appearance on UB has been so annoying and unnecessary. I’m happy to hear the rumors that her appearances will be cut down from six to four episodes. I find her scenes to be incredibly difficult to watch.

  8. Laura says:

I think Daniel could get past Willi sleeping with his father if Willi could get past Daniel sleeping with her sister. And Daniel could be the step father to his own half brother or sister.

If that doesn’t have telenovela all over it I don’t know what does.

  9. Jessica King says:

I like this episode,I love part of Daniel/Wilhelmina scene. But I dont like Lindsay Lohan’s character on Ugly Betty and I was mad that Kimmie mean to Betty for said her-I still waitting for you get coffee and call her Granny Pants then hurt Betty.I’m fan of America Ferrera and love her as my Idol Model and she is best actress.Honest I like Lindsay as person.

Lindsay not same character from Mean Girls.I heard Lindsay said she dont want people think she mean real life before,I’m serious.Like America was roll eye when Blake Lively talk about her Gossip Girls.

  10. angie says:

Hell, no. No, no, no…the idea of Daniel/Wilhelmina is reprehensible to me. This show may be based on a telenovela, but I don’t want to see it warp 100% into a daytime soap.

I’m with Jace on this one. The idea of Daniel and Wili may sound nice and sexy in some fan fiction world, but in no way would I like to see the male lead sex up the woman that screwed his dad (literally) and his mom (figuratively). Eww. And can you imagine what Claire would do? If she didn’t commit murder before, she certainly will if this ever happens.

I’m not a shipper by any means, but I’ll say this: D/W and D/B both fall into that supposed “cliche” category, but I’ll more readily accept and embrace D/B before I ever watch D/W on my screen. The day that happens is the day I really stop watching.

  11. geek says:

i loved this ep except for the lilo story line.. just didn’t buy it. (i loved lilo in her teen movies, but now her smoking is catching up to her.. a cute little girl with life lines already just doesn’t cut it) Hilda was hilarious.. the willie/daniel thing was a nice twist, but i don’t expect them to have “sexual tension”.. now that’d be WRONG!

  12. geek says:

oh.. another thing.. what’s up with mandy’s hair??? go back.. go back!!

  13. Tom says:

I agree with many here about Daniel / Willie . IN NO WAY should they ever end up as an item. However, I’m pretty sure what’s going on here is Wilhelmina is trying to get her hands on the other half of the Meade empire, now that she’s got half.

  14. Tom says:

geek: I want to know, what was with the over-the-top Healthy Choice product placement?

It was funny and creepy at the same time.

  15. Tomatish says:

Ok, first the things I loved about the episode: The opening scene was great.
    Daniel-”Kill the puppies” lmao
Hilda was awesome, would love some more screen time for her and the Suarez family.
Wilie and Daniel blind dinner date was a good idea. I agree with most people. It was nicely done as a friendly colleagues’ ceasefire in order to save the magazine and NOTHING more than that.
Claire and Daniel talk was tuching. I’m so on board for a nice girl, a happy marriage and even kids for Daniel. He deserves some peace.
Kimmie, not so much. But I have to admit, America totally made the storyline work. Like the scene in the cab. That was so S1 Betty. I felt for her. I’m happy Pappi kept her on track, though. I don’t want mean Betty to pop her head in the show again.
    That was all ;)

  16. Tomatish says:

Ok, one thing more. Sheila Lawrence kinda tends to give Wilhelmina a human dimension and make her and Daniel work together as colleagues. Like in Fey’s Sleigh Ride, she made them work on the Christams issue together and had that scene in the end with Wilie, Justin and the snow.
