Ugly Betty Odds And Ends

October 15, 2008 by Tom

113681_0151 Here are some questions (and a few answers) I have about Ugly Betty this week, along with some info about what’s going on around here for the next few days.

One question that’s been bugging me: ABC, why no sneak peek this week?  Are you keeping radio silence so you can hit us with a big surprise?  Not that you owe us one or anything, we just kind of get in the routine of seeing them every Friday or Saturday, and we miss them when they aren’t there.

Of course, the big question before Thursday’s episode (3.04, Betty Suarez Land) is: “Does Gio really hate Betty, or is it one of those dreams/visions/flashbacks Betty seems to have quite often?  I think it’s the latter, but this season has already been full of surprises, so who knows?

What is Wilhelmina’s capacity at Mode now, since Alexis is gone to jail?  I’m assuming she’ll still be creative director, although I’d LOVE it if she ended up at Player.  Heh.

Episode 3.06 will be titled “Ugly Berry”.  the synopsis:  Betty finds herself competing with Kimmie (guest star Lindsay Lohan) who finally shows her true colors, and new citizen Ignacio prepares to vote for the first time. Meanwhile Hilda takes advantage of the increased election traffic to promote her shop, and Wilhelmina wants to hire a new financial officer (guest star Grant Bowler) whom Daniel can’t stand.  (Ralph Macchio will play one of Hilda’s customers)

Episode 3.08 will be titled “Tornado Girl” (no other info yet)

Episode 3.09 will be titled “When Betty Met YETI” (OMG!  No other info, but the title is hilarious already!).

As I’ve previously warned told you, I’ll be going on a quick getaway with the family starting tomorrow though the 22nd of October.  There will be no live blog this week!

However, you will be in excellent hands, as Julie Bonner will be holding down the fort.  I’ve filled her in about you (don’t worry, most of it was bragging on you).  Now, I did let her know that y’all tend to get a little passionate about Betty’s romantic entanglements, but, amazingly, that didn’t scare her off!

With Gio coming back this week, though, you never know.  Just remember, keep it about the show!

Now,if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to finish packing.  See you next week!

i noticed that, about the sneak preview! i think this means it could be a big episode that they are actually trying to keep private, unlike the last one. that wilhelmina storyline seems like it could be good. but they need to fix up her office,it used to have undertone lighting and be beautiful but in the last episode it just looked awful. im still upset about the coach diaz situation, wish he was a regular. and im wishing kimmy just wouldnt be in the show and same with jessie. betty doesnt need any more of that! unless they make it good like they did in season 1. tom, hurry back! i need the updates!

  2. By all appearances, 3.04 definitely seems like it will be an eventful episode, especially after Alexis’ cliffhanger reveal from 3.03. In addition, Gio also returns. So, perhaps ABC is trying to build the hype by limiting the amount of spoiler info, clips, etc. that we usually get beforehand.

Then again, ABC may be doing this for all of their shows, and not just UB. – shrugs -

That being said, Michael Urie did do an interview on “Live with Regis and Kelly” this morning, and they did show one preview clip for 3.04 involving Wilhelmina and Marc. It’s been uploaded to the B&B YouTube Channel, if you want to take a look:

I guess Wili isn’t going to make this situation any easier for Alexis (surprise, surprise)…

On a personal note, have a good time vacationing with your family, Tom! :)

  3. Beatrice B says:

have a great vacation. Oh Tom you will miss the live blog filled of thousand of posts. It´s been so long we´ve seen Gio… I guess we´ll keep you posted when you return back.

Oh man! No sneak peek. What happened to ABC this week? They only post two (almost identical) short promos and nothing else.
Thanks MJ about the sneak peek on Willy. I’ve been dying to get ANYTHING from this episode…
Now this is really weird… really really weird…

  4. Beatrice B says:

oh well, of course, they released the vodcast with some slight hints about this episode. But … the sneak peeks. Are they going to stop releasing them from now and on?

  5. Angel25 says:

I sure hope ABC doesn’t stop releasing previews.

I don’t think they will, maybe they are keeping things underwraps.

Desperate Housewives just got some previews TODAY on Youtube and that is very unusual they usually get EARLY previews too.

  6. Julie says:

Hey everyone! I know you are all going to miss Tom while he’s on vacation, but I will do my best to fill his shoes. I will have a recap/reaction post tomorrow and everyone can discuss tonight’s episode. I will also search for the previews that hopefully *fingers crossed* ABC will release.

In the meantime, what did you think about tonight’s ep?

  7. Amanda M says:

There was SO much drama tonight… and I LOVED it!

Am I the only one who got all teary when Gio told Betty she broke his heart?? *sigh* What is wrong with Betty? Can’t she see the PERFECT guy in front of her?! Despite tonight’s episode, I refuse to give up hope that things may one day work about between those two. (and if not, Gio, look me up!)

I’m glad Rebecca Romijn can go and be a mommy, but I’m still sad to see Alexis go… I hope she wont be gone TOO long… she’s such a great character!

I was so proud of Hilda tonight! I know she’s heartbroken, but I’m SO glad she did the right thing! I think she’s really growing up a lot. (Although I will miss the sexiness of Coach Diaz!)

And poor, poor Daniel… when will things ever go right for him?!?! :(

(Sorry that was so long! Hahahaha)

  8. Michelle says:

Honestly, I thought this was one of the most boring episodes of UB ever. LOL
I’m tired of all the same drama all the time.
Bring back Cliff, bring back Henry, bring back Kenny. More Marc and Amanda. I need some light hearted humor back.

  9. angie says:

“Bring back Cliff, bring back Henry, bring back Kenny. More Marc and Amanda. I need some light hearted humor back.”

    ——————-

I don’t mind bringing back Cliff, Kenny, and more Marc and Amanda. But Henry? Sorry, but no thanks. He only adds to the drama, in my opinion. And I had more than enough of that “love” drama stuff last season with Betty. Now, if it happens with another character at Mode, then that’ll be different. But I’m tired of seeing too much emphasis on Betty’s lovelife right now. After two seasons of it being pushed in our faces, we need a break from seeing that with her.

  10. Michelle says:

Trust me I’m sick of the love drama too, but
I enjoyed Henry as a character. He had some ’so-nerdy-its-funny’ type lines. I’d like to see him back with his own storyline instead of everything involving Betty all the time.
IMO some of the best moments of season two were the Henry/Kenny ones. I’m still interested in a Henry/Amanda storyline also. I think they could’ve done so much with his character, but instead they shoved him into something they couldn’t get him out of. I think a comeback would be fun as long as they keep the relationship drama out of it.

  11. Sarah says:

Tom–you really missed a great episode! Some of the best lines of the season were in this one!

ROFL at Betty “living in 25 Teddy Bear Lane, Betty Suarez Land, USA.” Priceless!

And the banned flyer/Gio’s Deli Menu is even more so. I’m a long time fan of Freddy Rodriguez and I have to say I was so impressed with his performance in this episode tonight–it was amazing! And the sparks crackling between him and America Ferrera during the apartment scenes practically set my TV on fire! ABC and Silvio Horta would be fools to let that talent disappear from the show! They were great together!

  12. Sarah says:

And I also forgot to add that Daniel lunging at Alex at the jail in the beginning? Best Daniel moment ever! That was scene was hilarious!!

Also, Wilhelmina “persuading” the DA? Fantastic!

  13. Beatrice B says:

woah! This is one of my favorite Ugly Betty episodes. Acting was top notch. And woah! Freddy Rodriguez showed me once again why I am so proud to be his fan. He is amazing. He loves his craft. I felt Gio´s feelings… I heart him. And he also made us laugh a little and still found time to try to bring some sense into Betty. He helps her grow up (which is exactly the whole theme of this season). So I know he won’t be back in a while. Rodriguez is doing some projects now. But they gave us such a wonderful episode to sustain us until he returns back.
Daniel and his “son” story was heartbreaking. I love how they are still building up the character Daniel. He is growing up like Betty. I do agree I want to see more Suarez screen time. But Hilda and Coach Diaz drama was really interesting (and sad).
    This is good television.
Sadly, I am not too excited about the whole Kimberly story. But I am really looking forward to see “little Betty”.

  14. TeamGetty says:

This was one of my favorite episodes! Lots of heartbreak and good-byes but also forgiveness: Gio/Betty, Alexis/Daniel, Hilda/Coach, and Daniel having to say good-bye to Daniel Jr.! So sad! I felt so bad for Gio. You could just tell from his face that he’s still in love with her. I agree that Betty needs a little break from her relationship drama so that the show can focus on more comedy at Mode but they have to bring Gio back! He’s the perfect guy for her.
I am so against bringing back Henry. I was glad that they got rid of him and that the guy who plays him was eager to leave to star in another show. Good riddance!

  15. Tomatish says:

This episode had a wonderful balance between comedy and drama and some really amazing lines. Willie to Marc “Get your lips off my ass” that scene was hilarious
And Gio “Heaven from a cow” lmao
Freddy is a genius. He cracks you up one moment and breaks your heart the next.

Dj and Daniel’s goodbye was sad. Honestly, Eric should get more credit for his role on UB.

And Michelle I’m gonna have to agree with you on bringing Kenny back

Right now, I’m ok with both Gio and Betty getting a break (althought we know Betty is gonna get her heart broken soon). But Horta MUSt bring Gio back. He is so THE GUY

  16. thewaymouth says:

The episode was moving and sweet. Some of it was fun. But I didn’t laugh out loud once, unlike last week. It had the least excitement of any episode this season, which is OK. But if it stayed in this sentiment every week I’d probably stop watching. But I don’t expect either to happen.

One thing I don’t get: Tony announces to his wife he doesn’t love her anymore. THEN Hilda tells him to forget it! I don’t care if Tony’s wife showed up to beg Hilda for him. Tony’s wife is delusional, and so is Hilda. Tony says he had stopped loving his wife before he started up w/Hilda. He finally gets the courage to end it, and that’s when Hilda pulls back. Are we supposed to believe Tony was faking i8t, but really loved his wife. That’s not what I was feeling.

For Tony, his marriage is a dead shark, and he’s already jumped it. He’s not going back to his wife. He may be impressed that she fought for him, but more likely he’d be bull.

Finally, Hilda’s going w/Tony behind his wife’s back, made Tony more sure than ever that his marriage was over, that he definitely didn’t love his wife, but he loved another. In the light of day, Hilda wasn’t fair to Tony. Everybody is hugging Hilda at the end. They should have told her she was a jerk. This ending was like something out of a bad Catholic film code from the 1940’s. Stay in the marriage, even if there is no love.

Daniel and Alexis and DJ are a 21st Century story, while Hilda and Tony is old school that is so old.

    What do you think?
