Freddy Rodriguez To Star In Futuristic Horror Film
Freddy Rodriguez has a few things going on besides Ugly Betty. For instance, his latest project: Rodriguez will be starring in the horror thriller “Fortuna”. Also starring in the film will be Dominic Monaghan (Lost).
Set in 2100, “Fortuna” envisions an Earth where a collapsed economy and climate crises have eliminated the middle class, leaving a few very wealthy and the teeming masses in severe poverty. To give hope and avoid revolt, the elite create Fortuna, a mysterious game where one in a thousand wins a big payday and joins the upper classes. But their hidden goal to “reduce poverty” by 30% over 50 years comes with a deadly price tag.
Monaghan, Rodriguez and “Fortuna” writer-director Barthelemy Grossmann will play desperate men who play the game in a nearby tower, despite apprehensions that none of its contestants are ever seen again.
They are filming in Sofia, Bulgaria starting November 10. The sets are apparently very dreary, in a “Soylent Green” kind of way. Although, the plat sort of reminds me of “The Running Man”.
Although I don’t usually go for this kind of movie, the plot intrigues me, and Freddy has really grown on me. No doubt, I’ll go see this, if I get the chance.

Yeah, I am looking forward to this film. Even though I am not into horror movies. I am also intrigued by the plot. … and of course… I´ll watch every Rodriguez film out there.

Hey Tom, abc has released the new “Mode After Hours” clip called “Bowling for Cliff”. You should post it here, it’s hilarious! And cute. Although Cliff’s not actually in it. But we learn that Amanda has some hidden skills ;)

Like Beatrice, I’ll watch any film or show that Freddy is in! I especially enjoyed his most recent movie, “BottleShock” and am looking forward to “Nothing Like the Holidays”.
However, I hope that “Fortuna” doesn’t take him away from UB that long. Gio will always be favorite Freddy (and UB) character. :)

I really like this kind of movie, but I wonder if this is a remake, because I feel like I’ve seen this before. It sounds like a mixture of “Soylent Green”, “The Island”, “Gattaca”, and a few other dystopian sci-fi flicks.

LOL, it isn’t a huge secret that I’m a fan of Henry/Betty one true pairing, but I don’t dislike Freddy Rodriguez. I don’t mind that the filming for this movie will keep him away from New York for at least 6 weeks this winter though! :)

I wish Freddy would get QUALITY movie roles that would bring in big box office returns. I’m sure that this horror film could end up being really good but it’s a horror film! I’m glad that he is in a more mainstream family/romance/comedy with Nothing Like the Holidays. At least there are some recognizable names in that film. I think Freddy should do a romantic comedy. It would DEFINITELY bring out his Ugly Betty fans who love him as Gio!

Thanks for posting and letting us know about this, Tom. I wish Freddy would start getting leads in A-list movies, but at least it sounds like he has a starring role in this one, and Monaghan is pretty good company to be in.
