AHHHHH! I don’t have a tv so I’m going to have to wait until after midnight to watch it on ABC.com.
So Gio wasn’t in this episode? :( I really want her to end up with him. This is so WRONG. The writers can’t create such a great guy and have him go away. She has to pick him. I’m so angry with Betty!

Everyone and everything had changed too much and I hated it. I didn’t see any heart or much humor. I hope it gets better next week or I don’t think I’ll be watching much longer. IMO, it sucked.
The only thing that might have saved it was more Marc and Amanda.

Oh, they were both in it for about 10 seconds each and they were both hosed. I can’t believe they built up this stupid love triangle and blew it off with no resolution with either guy in less than one minute. What a waste of time to watch this.

This episode definetely wasn’t the best, but I loved Wilhelmina’s scenes. The elevator thing was really funny! And Claire’s perfume, “Musky!” lol! Marc and Amanda were funny too, and I am diggin’ Betty’s new attitude. I think as we get further in the season things will get more interesting.

First of all, this episode seemed really scattered. Obviously they used it to set up future storylines but it just seemed messy to me. I agree with Laura…there were a few good one-liners and I liked the moments between Daniel and DJ…but the show didn’t have the same vibe that I’ve grown to love. That opening sequence with Betty at the grave and the softball flashbacks was just a disaster, IMO (and I’m one of the people who figured from the beginning that she chose to go on a trip by herself…so that wasn’t the disappointing part). The scenes for next week look funny but I’m really feeling tentative about getting involved with UB like I did last season.

In a nutshell? I loved it! And I can see why several critics who reviewed it enjoyed it, as well. It really did have that “fresh” vibe to it, and to be quite honest, I like how the show shed last season’s drama: They did it quickly, like ripping off an old bandaid and throwing it in the trash. And you really could feel the difference.
To me, it felt like a homecoming of some kind.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that I think the episode was perfect. If I wanted to, I could definitely nitpick and make a small list if I wanted to. But that list would be outweighed by all of the other positive changes that we’re seeing so far.
Yes - this is exactly what the show needed: A new start. And I’m confident that things will only improve with the following episodes.
P.S. In regards to Betty’s love life, I like how they introduced Jesse/Val. Ausiello was right - it was cute, and the writers handled it well. They didn’t emphasize his presence in Betty’s life more than they should at this time. They touched on him long enough for us to know that he’s there, but that’s about it. I didn’t feel the “New Romance” alarm go off in my head, which is great! It’ll be interesting to see how he and Betty interact throughout the rest of the season.
