Poll: What Story Are You Most Looking Forward To?

by Tom on August 27th, 2008

rebecca-romijn-meades-nc-thumb.jpgOne thing abut the end of Ugly Betty season 2, things were very, very “busy”. After the WGA strike, Silvio Horta tried to wrap up as much of the loose ends as he could, but left many, many story lines as cliffhangers.

Now, we focus on the Henry/Gio/Betty love triangle here, but there are going to be many story lines in season 3 left over from the season 2 finale that are almost as compelling. I wonder, which one are you looking forward to the most?

  • Daniel/Daniel Jr - Is DJ really Daniel’s son? Is he (as some of us suspect) really Alex/Alexis’? How will Daniel change, being a father? What about the grandparents, who apparently will sue to get custody?
  • Hilda/Coach Diaz - Is Hilda crazy? Will Ignacio disown her? Will Tony’s wife try to kill her?
  • Wilhelmina’s Baby - Will the baby be born during sweeps? Will there be complications? Will Willy pay up? Which leads to…
  • Stuart’s illness - Is stuart really sick? Is he perfoming an elaborate con on Christina / Wilhelmina? (I think, yes).
  • Meade disfunction - Can the Meade family survive the division caused by Alexis putting Wilhelmina in Daniel’s job? How will Daniel survive? Will Claire put her foot down?
  • Marc / Cliff - Will the relationship continue? Will Cliff become a more intregal part of Mode? Will Marc introduce Cliff (as his boyfriend) to anyone besides Amanda?
  • Plus, we have ongoing subtexts, like Amanda’s father (who she is no longer searching for), and Justin’s discovery of himself.

So, what storyline (aside from the love triangle) are you most looking forward to?

What Season 3 Story arc (besides Henry/Gio) Are You Most Looking Forward To?

Marc and Cliff, hands down. A close second would be for Amanda to have a happier storyline in the series. After the downer of the Gene Simmons/father debacle, I’m ready for her to have an awesome storyline.

ok….I am going to be quite honest here….after the way they messed up the whole Henry/Gio/Betty thing, I really am having a hard time getting excited over the coming of the new season. I just wish that they could have found a way to keep Henry in the storyline (even if Betty did’nt choose him). Being an accountant, they could have found an way for maybe Henry to come across something that Wilhelmina was doing wrong with money from Mode (or something). I understand that the focus is on Betty, but the writers gave Henry a part just as equal to Amanda, Christina and Marc and they are not written out of the show. Other than that probably the Meade family rift would be interesting.

I’d say the Stuart illness one, mostly because I love to see more of Christina. But i have a feeling though it might just get resolved like Ignactio’s illegal immigration troubles, kinda on the sly.

But i guess mostly what my problem is that i don’t have much faith in the writers anymore. We’ll see in Sept….

Hard to choose. What I love about Ugly Betty is that I love to see different story arcs at the same time.
I am really looking forward about the whole Daniel as a father and how he will “grow up” as a strong character. (I chose that one)
But really… how about the Daniel vs Willhelmina fight over the control of Meade. (or Mode)
I also want Christina/Wilhelmina Bradford child story.

@remotelycirrus-I agree, I don’t have much faith in the writers anymore after Season 2. The first episodes were not bad, but after the writers’ strike, you can see the difference. And then there’s Alexis “quitting” (sorta) which might tell you something about the new writers. The warmness, comfort and funniness was really missing from the last few eps. But I guess we’ll wait and see…Ah! I can’t wait!!

Right now, Cliff/Marc and the Daniel/DJ are tied, and I agree, because I really love these two storylines. Daniel is one of the complexer characters, and I’m just jumping up and down wondering what this’ll do to his character, and Marc is just plain funny. But Christina and the Meades are very good as well…I agree, my vote to Stuart lying.

I agree that some of the episodes from the first half of Season 2 were great, but even then, I repeat - the operative word here is “some”, not “all”.

As for the post-strike episodes, I think a lot of the “rushed” feeling of those last five had much to do with the strike killing the normal flow of things. (And let’s face it: The strike is the reason behind a lot of things - including the fact that it gave Silvio Horta plenty of time to sit back, ponder UB’s direction, and make various changes. Whether or not the strike’s effects on the show are good or bad are, of course, purely subjective. Personally, however, I’m already excited by some of the changes we’re seeing for Season 3, so I think the strike ended up doing more harm than good overall.)

For Season 3, I’m looking forward to the Daniel/Daniel Jr. storyline and the Meade family rift. I’ve always enjoyed storylines that involve the Meades, especially Daniel. Next to Betty, I think he’s definitely one of the more interesting characters on the show and a personal favorite of mine, so I love the fact that we’re going to see him grow up some more with these intricate storylines in Season 3. And as always, any complicated storyline that involves Daniel or Betty usually means that we’ll get to see them handle it together, in one way or another. And as a D/B shipper, I have to admit - THAT’S something I always look forward to. ;)

What am I looking forward to this up coming season? Daniel\Daniel Jr. all the way!!!!!!!!!!! Crazy about DJ! I adore the boy :) The only one on Ugly Betty that’s worth looking at.The other men on that show are old enough to be my dad and that’s too old for me.Well, Justin may not be too old but he’s not my type. lol

I’m not really excited about any of the storylines besides Betty/Gio. Curious, yes, but not excited. I think this is because this show has a tendency to speed up storylines and drop them so quickly, there’s no real time to get attached to them. DJ could be gone by the fifth episode. It sounds like the Coach isn’t staying long either. Why get attached to storylines that are going to fly by?

I guess the one main storyline I am the most interested in is how Betty handles working at Player and how she and Daniel gets back to MODE. Because for the life of me, I don’t know how that’s going to work out.

I just want Curious from Daniel and Daniel Jr,if he is his real father, when the grandparents will might sue Daniel custody, but will go to find out.

Like many others have said, I have a hard time letting my guard down getting excited about anything season 3 has to offer. The writers and TPTB at UB really screwed up during S2. First, you had the Amanda/Gene Simmons debacle. Then, the odd relationship/storyline of Daniel and Renee. Then, the multiple personalities of Alexis. And of course, the writers developed the character of Gio and the storyline with him and Betty and now *poof* we are expected to just throw that all down the drain (if speculation rumors are true)? I feel like I was duped into believing that they were developing a storyline when, in reality, they had no idea what they were doing. That’s no way to run a show. How can we trust them? Wooster is right, the storylines move in and out so quickly it’s hard to develop an attachment to them. I am a little excited about Marc/Cliff and the whole “Player” scenario (which I assume will have a lot of comedic relief). But, if I have to sit through another Betty “love interest” I will likely end my own relationship with Betty and Company. And it’s not just because of the character or Freddy Rodriguez (which I assume many who read this will be thinking). It is because I feel I invested a good portion of my time getting to love the chemistry of the characters and the “potential” of this storyline created by the writers and now we have to wait and see IF we’ll get one or two episodes out of it. That is too frustrating for something that is supposed to be entertaining. Let’s hope they prove me wrong.

I’m a curious about how Claire is gonna deal with Alexis this season. And frankly, I don’t see why people were so surprised to see Alexis turn her back on Daniel. It’s not like she hasn’t done it before. But this time, Claire is free and she is observing but hasn’t yet done anything. I kinda miss the strong pre-Hot Flash Claire.

And yeah, I would love to see Daniel and Amanda have another heart to heart talk like the one in the hospital when Bradford was dying, but I won’t get my hopes up since it seems like the writers droped D/A (I guess because of lack of fan interest in this ship)

I don’t think they have dropped D/A, Tomatish. There were at least 3 references to it in S2 as close to the finale as Burning Questions. I get the feeling that for either of them to grow up and have a real relationship, they are going to have to retry it with each other first. And I hope that they do.

I wasn’t surprised by Alexis either. I was also glad that the character was demoted to recurring. As much as I like RR, the character was poorly written. One week, she was ready to join her family and the next she was out to destroy them all. It went on like that for two seasons without any foundation or character development. The character and her storyline just didn’t work.

Hmm…Daniel and Amanda? I’m not feeling it. In fact, I don’t get the feeling that the writers are aiming for that either - at least, not as a serious couple in the long run. They don’t have much of a real connection, IMO. And actually, in Season 2, I noticed that Daniel only turned to Amanda because he couldn’t go to Betty for help, advice, a pep talk, etc. Personally, I think Amanda should find herself a better guy who understands her. (Seriously, it’s too bad Marc is gay. LOL.)

Anyway, as for the poll, I like all of the storyline ideas, but yeah - I’m most intrigued by the Meade-related stuff. So, I can’t really choose between the rift story or the Daniel/Daniel Jr. storyline. They both sound very fascinating.

I also think Ally is right in saying that the strike downtime instigated a lot of the “thoughts” in Silvio Horta’s brain, which resulted in many changes to the show. But it doesn’t bother me. I like this “new-and-improved” direction that “Ugly Betty” is taking. I’m pretty excited, actually. :)

Come on, honestly, I think it was the writers that screwed up Alexis. When she first appeared in the first season, she had A LOT of potential. She wanted to get back at her family for throwing her beneath the bus, but she couldn’t. She couldn’t deal with the disappointment they’d have with her, even though she knew she really wanted to become a woman, and she’s -above all- very smart and capable. And it is obvious from the season 1 finale that she really loves Daniel. So why backstab him both times (paintball and Willy thing). This shows she’s irrational and stupid (to let Willy back). And then next episode, she goes back to being nice, and it is never justified as to why Willy was put back. I could accept that if they had not paced it so badly. And the paintball thing! Daniel never even got mad at her.

Then, the other things. Now, the Amanda’s father thing, got in 2 eps, and she had one tiny scene of unhappiness and there, resolved. Renee, something that could’ve been so much more, got 2 eps and thrown. Henry pretty much stayed there for angst and they madeup 10x times even when their relationship obviously had a deadline, and then left, and suddenly reappeared, and it’s obvious Betty can’t do stay with him, so why bother? Then Gio asks Betty to go with him even though they aren’t even really dating. Huh?

But they did do some things well. I really enjoyed the episode with the healthy model, and though Renee wasn’t done well, the ep with her at the end was really maniacal and pitiful. The Claire Meade trial thing was okay, despite it being rushes and farfetched too. Marc’s love life was awesome. And I make it no secret that I truly adore Justin and Hilda, so their ups and downs due to his father’s death was really very sweet. So both families rule, and I am also a die-hard D/B shipper, and the fact that D/B’s relationship stood like a rock during all those ups and downs and actually developed somewhat made me very happy indeed. So…I still have SOME faith in them. They actually have some good-looking storylines that can go very far if they do it well. Even the whole farfetched baby thing might go well now that it’s all set up and it’s all about the clash and baby-waiting now. The writers’ strike at least got the creators to clear their minds a bit and take Betty in a good direction, and I’m glad that it’s now time for Betty to follow her dreams and not…hopeless loves. So I am sticking around. Don’t disappoint me!

“As much as I like RR, the character was poorly written.”

Well, I don’t think it was bad in S1. I especially liked the Brazilian EIC story line and the one with RR’s husband (when she went with Wilie to a bar)

As much as I love Amanda with Marc, she’s mostly real (as in: I can relate to her) in the D/A story line. Like when she talked to Betty about being in love with Daniel or their chat in the hosiptal. Anyway, if the writers drop that storyline/ship, at least they should give Amanda a real love interest. Someone who’d realise she’s more than a pretty face, and help her realise that about herself as well.

I just wanted to say that we shouldn’t forget about the Musical Episode. That’s gonna be a big event this season. I can’t wait. (Oh please let Gio be in that epi)

That’s my point, actually. Individual pieces of her story are brilliant, such as the ones you have mentioned, but the pieces do not follow a coherent arc. It always makes since when Wili goes from compassionate to vindictive, but it doesn’t flow as well (or at all) when Alexis does it.
