Ugly Betty Shoots New Softball Scene In Chinatown
As discussed in the comments here, Ugly Betty recently shot a scene in Chinatown - recreating the softball scene from episode 2.18 - Jump. Here is video courtesty of x17:

I have a couple of questions about this. First off, Henry is apparently going to be in this scene. There has been discussion about whether or not this is actually Christopher Gorham, or a double (if the scene is a quick flashback, it’s possible they used a double). I have no reason to think it’s NOT CG, though, and I’m going to see if I can get to the bottom of this in the next few days. Part of my problem is that, although there are pics (which you’ll see after the jump), the ones available to me do not include Gorham. I know that one or two exist out there, though. Stay tuned.
The other thing is more mysterious. What are they doing here? Why shoot another version of the scene? Although, I guess it COULD be a new softball game. But, that doesn’t seem likely.
I see three major possibilities for this scene:
- This could be a flashback. I’ve been combing through the old photos, trying to figure out if Alec Mapa is wearing the same thing he wore in Jump. If not, then a flashback wouldn’t make sense. Plus, Betty is wearing a strange diamond-encrusted belt buckle (shown in some of the photos out there) that I don’t remember from 2.18.
- This could be a present-day dream. Maybe Betty is having a dream or vision, reliving the softball game with new perspective? None of the OTHER actors (Urie, Williams, Newton, Mabius) appear to be in the scene.
- Or - Silvio Horta could be pulling a “Newhart” on us. What if everything that happened after the softball beaned Betty was a dream? I surely hope not. Please, please, please don’t do this, Ugly Betty producers!
One thing for sure, Freddy Rodriguez is in this scene.
Anyway, this makes for interesting speculation. I’ve got lots of pics after the jump - and Benry fans, I promise you, if I come across photos of Chris Gorham in this scene (that I’m allowed to use) I PROMISE, I’ll post them. :)

I have a question. Tom mentioned above that Alec Mapa/ Suzuki St. Pierre is on the set or in photos for this episode. I don’t see him.
Is there a picture or footage that shows him?

I still think this is definitely the same game of Elle vs Mode of the Jump finale. In one of the pictures (not of those your published) there was a woman dressed in Elle´s uniform. So it probably is a dream or a flashback.
About the sparkly D&G belt buckle. She had it in the 2.18 episode.

I know that right now there are quite a few Getty fans trying to get to the bottom of the Chris Gorham mystery as well. I can’t believe there aren’t clearer photos!
And I’m still trying to figure out the handshake thing. It was like she was meeting him for the first time or something…
I’ll probably be trying to figure this thing out all day…

Thanks for posting the pictures. I saw the ones with Henry and I thought it was Christopher Gorham but your can’t really tell for sure. I think Henry is too important a character to try to use a fake. It all is interesting, isn’t it?

If I said something wrong I’m sorry. I didn’t see Alec in any of the photos did I miss him?
I remember Betty wearing that belt, I didn’t know it was a Dolce though: Nice!

Jennifer, thanks. That is extremely similar to the newer photos I’ve seen of Mapa (the only place I can get to Splash photos is Picapp, and they don’t have the Mapa ones! GRRRR!)
Anyway, y’all are right - the outfits are all the same. It must be a flashback.

That’s definitely CG’s number and he’s wearing glasses, but am I the only one that didn’t think it looked like his face? Could it be a stand-in until CG can actually do the shoot?
After seeing the final shot in this video, it makes me think that this is the first shot of the premiere. I don’t think it’s necessarily a flashback, but instead the premiere starts directly when we finished the finale.
It looks like Betty is explaining her decision to Gio at the end. This must lead to the Coney Island episode and what they plan to do and feel in that episode.

In the scene that I saw, Suzuki (Alec) is interviewing Betty in front of a horde of paparazzi.

I agree with you, Wooster. They have to give the audience a resolution to “Jump” in order for Betty’s actions in the following episodes to make sense.
And didn’t Silvio say that the 1st episode would be setting up the rest of the season? Her decision is certainly pivotal in the direction of the show.
It didn’t look like CG’s face to me either- or the way he carries himself. Maybe Chris is filming his new show on CBS at the moment?
I’m sure that Betty & Gio will come to an agreement…hence the CI episode, where we see him supporting her in her “everyday life”, as always. :)

I have to say that the face doesn’t look like Gorham to me either, but I can’t imagine them not using him at all for that scene. Using a stand in for him would be harsh and unfair to him and his fans. I think there is a huge possibility he’ll show up later (if that isn’t him) for that scene.
I do hope this scene makes it in episode 301 instead of 305/306 (because I don’t want to have to wait for it). I think it would make the most sense in 301, but they could do a vague reference that she chose herself in 301, and not actually show the flashback until the CI episode. So, we’ll see, I guess.

Thank You. I saw those photos on the news.com website. Very funny and totally Betty moment: LOL! It’s nice to see Alec Mapa [Suzuki St. Pierre] back this season. Alec is hysterical in the role and a wonderful asset to The Ugly Betty world.
As for the topic at hand the Henry situtation:
I think it’s a STAND In too.
In the shots and videos you CAN’T see Christopher’s face only the SIDE or BACK of “Henry’s” head the typical practice of a stand in.
I’m thinking like Nena said maybe Christopher is filming Harper’s Island and couldn’t make it for the shot.
IF NOT maybe Christopher isn’t coming back at all because of Harper’s Island or some other reason.
It WILL be SAD if Christopher isn’t part of this but; the storyline needs to be resolved in order to give Betty and Betty and Henry fans closure.
Well, that’s my point of view anyway.

Hi Tom, I heard you had pics of Freddy Rodriguez as Gio on the forum at http://www.modegirl-sandwichguy.com (MGSG) so I came here. Thanks for posting them. Loved to see them. I am going crazy with anticipation just from hearing FR is on the UB set.
I have been entranced for months by the chemistry and interaction between Betty and Gio in S2 and I want to see it continue in S3. AF and FR can pull off some awesome funny dialog (quack/woof), romantic situations (TKAA kiss & dance), physical comedy (struggle over Wicked tickets), and more. Actually, I have watched and re-watched all scenes with Gio and Betty. After what we’ve seen I really hope to see more outstanding TV with these two characters.
I love the Betty character (hey, why else watch the show?) and I wish her the best (and to me that includes a loving relationship with Gio) … you go girl and you deserve THE GUY.
By the way, besides the thousands of postings at MGSG, you can find over a hundred entertaining Betty/Gio stories at fanfiction.net. There are many more outstanding fan videos on youtube. This is evidence that I am not alone in being fascinated by and invested in these two characters.

He’s number 22. The person in the photo has dark hair and glasses, but I don’t think it looks like Chris Gorham at all. You can see him in the video, too, shaking hands with America Ferrara.

hmmm.this is really interesting.im really curious about what all of this means..
as for the guy being Christopher i cant help but think that it isn’t him and they are using a stand-in i saw the handshake in the video and it just seem really strange ..im on team gio but its really sad if they are not going to use the actual henry in the scene ..it just isnt fair for the henry fans
