Video: ABC Fall Promo

August 8, 2008 by Tom

While watching my favorite summer distraction the other day (I Survived a Japanese Game Show) I was quite disheartened to see the promo for ABC’s fall 2008 season.  I kept waiting and waiting for Ugly Betty to show up, but there was no Betty.

Luckily, today I found the 60-second version, and there is Betty in all her glory:

Even though it’s just America Ferrera spinning around in her chair (showing off her new Patricia Field style), I was at once relieved and psyched for the new season.

As an aside, I see the new show Life on Mars is included here.  Of all the new series this year, this is the only one that intrigues me.  Are any of you going to watch?

Anyway, dang right, I’m ready for Betty!

It does seem like they’re giving Betty short shrift in their promos. I hope that they remedy this as the new season approaches.

I am still feeling really conflicted about watching the upcoming season of Ugly Betty. I fell in love with the show before the characters of Henry and Gio appeared, but I can’t help feeling jilted by the writers removing them [Henry and Gio]. Why did they involve so much time and effort into Gio’s character, as well as, interaction with Betty only to have him come back one more time (as the rumors have suggested)?

  3. Just an FYI–Life on Mars isn’t in that promo.

Starts with the dog from Pushing Daisies stealing the ABC logo then goes Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover, Dirty Sexy Money, Ugly Betty, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies, Brothers & Sisters, Eli Stone, Grey’s Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, and Lost.

It’s just showcasing all the current ABC one hour programs, I believe.

But I am excited about Life on Mars. I’ve loved Jason O’Mara ever since I saw him on In Justice. And it’s interesting that Harvey Keitel is joining the cast. Will make for an interesting show.

And that promo has me excited for ABC’s Fall season–wish it was September already!

Betty’s part in the promo was cute but I think ABC is trying way to hard with Grey’s. It seemed like half of the promo was Izzie/Alex, then Meredith/Derrick, and then some. We get Betty spinning around in a chair surrounded by mannequins and clothes? Sorry, that’s just my opinion but nonetheless I’m still excited.

Ilkeeze, I understand how you’re feeling about Henry and Gio, but the producers can’t really force Chris Gorham and Freddy Rodriguez to move to the east coast. I’m sure they would have loved it if the entire cast and supporting cast had decided to make the move, but that’s just not how it happened. I’m giving the show’s writers the benefit of the doubt. I trust them to keep entertaining their audience the way they had during the first two seasons.

The NYC move, in my opinon, has nothing to do with the removal of Henry and Gio, and everything to do with the writers not knowing what to do with the storylines. If you look at the plotlines before the big announcement, the storytelling been getting pretty lazy. Whether the strike made them want to take the easy way out or not, they amped up the love triangle knowing that they’ll get tons of viewers because everyone loves shipping wars. Now they are seemily trying to forget the Henry-Betty-Gio triangle happened all together moving rapidily to a new direction straight from the bat.
Instead of staying in nest they made, and letting the love triangle pan out to glide into a new arc of Betty’s growth. They’re culling it and probably going to disservice to the characters/actors that are getting the boot.
