Ugly Betty Script Snippet (OMG - SPOILERS!!!)

by Tom on August 1st, 2008

Since ABC officially adopted the expression in the promos to Ugly Betty episode 2.18, Jump , I have to say it…

OMG!

SpoilerTV has, somehow, obtained a script snippet from episode 3.06, and it’s a doozy. If you are not spoiler-averse, I’ve embedded the file after the jump.

The snippet raises lots of questions, and we’ll get to those after the jump. However, looking over the script (it is in Scribd format, so not everyone can see it), I have an interesting (maybe only to me) question:

Why, in 2008, do scripts still look like they were typrewritten? Are any of you screenwriters? Tell me, is this some kind of style rule in the business?

Anyway, enough of my font-geekery. Since this is about as spoilerish as they get, read on to see the file and the discussion!

Here’s the snippet:

connor aubrey - Upload a Document to Scribd
Read this document on Scribd: connor aubrey

The script concerns the introduction of a new character, Connor Aubrey. We first see him introducing himself to Wilhelmina, yet later in the script, he’s telling how he was the mastermind of the 1984 Apple Super Bowl commercial.

Then, there’s a scratched-out scene where Daniel gives Betty a gift. Later, Daniel and Connor are congratulating each other for making some plan of theirs come to fruition.

The order of events makes you wonder: who is scamming who? Are Connor and Daniel really plotting asgainst Wilhelmina, or is Connor executing one of Wilhelmina’s schemes against Daniel?

THIS is going to be interesting!

    Why I can’t see anything? :(

    Roby, try this link:

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/4354205/connor-aubrey

If it doesn’t work, there may be a download on that site you’ll need before you can see the file. My understanding is that this format is kind of a rival to Adobe Acrobat.

haha I didn’t see that coming at all. Also, I was just in an acting class and all of the scripts looked like this too.. Not exactly, but pretty much!

I have written scripts and have final draft, which is what the industry uses. That is what a script is supposed to look like.

Yeah. I am getting excited already. Seems like Kimberly arc is going to finish in the first 5-6 episodes as planned.
And Daniel playing Willy games? Woah! I am dying to see that.
Connor. Seems like an interesting character. Who would they cast in that role? hummm…

Tom thanks but I didn’t see it in that link, either.
    And there isn’t a download there :(
    It’s very strange.

Love this excerpt. Looks like they got it from an actor who auditioned for the part. :-D

As for the format: Courier is the industry standard font because every letter is the same width. The standard size makes it easier to gauge the approximate running time of a scene (rule of thumb is about one minute per page).

Dang. You learn something new every day.

Roby, sorry - it’s probably one of those incompatibilities between OS/Browser/File.

If this Connor guy is in his late 30’s, as the description says, and he masterminded the 1984 Apple Super Bowl commercial (24 years ago), I guess he must have been some kind of prodigy in the advertising world because he could only have been 15 years old, at most.

    Oh, don’t worry. It’s ok.. thanks ^^

My guess is that Daniel and Connor are frat brothers and it’s their scheme, not Wili’s.

I posted an innocent comment earlier today, but it seems to have been deleted. I guess someone around here doesn’t like me…

SirLizard, Are you Tony Lagarto? The one with the UB fansite?! Ah! I am a fan of your fansite. I go there very often. :)
Best recaps, character description and international section of the UB franchise in the web.
Hey, glad to see you posting here!!

Beatrice B, thank you. It’s nice to know that my work is appreciated. You can see that I’m more than a little obsessed with the various international versions.

On an unrelated note, I see that my other post showed up… I thought that it had been deleted. You’d think I’d know how technology works by now :-)

Unfortunately, luvnbetty, I think it’s gone for good. On Monday, I tried to look at it again, but by then, it was already gone. I’m sorry that you didn’t get the chance to read it. :(

After reading that Walt Disney request, I doubt we’ll see it uploaded again - unless someone out there decides to take the risk.

[…] Once you hit ‘post’, it’s out there.  Unless, of course, it’s a snippet of a discarded script. […]
