New Ugly Betty Broadway Connections
Ugly Betty’s move to New York is starting to pay dividends beyond the cool set locations. There are a couple of interesting tidbits of news about Ugly Betty and Broadway.
First, a bit of casting news. Avenue Q’s Jordan Gelber, who will be part of the upcoming Broadway revival of All My Sons, has filmed a guest appearance on the season premiere of Ugly Betty.
Gelber told Playbill.com that he “works with the characters of Daniel [Eric Mabius] and Betty [America Ferrera] in the world of magazine publishing” in the season-premiere episode, which is scheduled to air Sept. 25. (Certainly he’s a “Player” employee?)
With all these Broadway connections the show is making, maybe we can finally get that musical episode this year.
Here’s the other news. Michael Urie and Becki Newton (why don’t they both change their names to that - do we ever reference them separately anymore?) are going to be taking part in “Broadway Loves the 80’s” (Volume 3), a fundraiser taking place on August 10, 9:30PM at Joe’s Pub in NY.
They’ll be joining a host of Broadway stars, singing hits from the 80’s. They’ll be raising money for the The Flood 2008 Fund of The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
From the looks of yesterday’s story, the show had almost sold out, so if you are in the New York area, get your tickets now!

I really hope that Gina Gershon [Fabia] and Patti LuPone [Jean Weiner, Marc' s Mother] return to Ugly Betty in season 3. Gina and Patti both have shows on Broadway right now. It’s the PERFECT time for these “Diva’s” to RETURN.
Fabia and Wilhelmina’s fued was campy but it made for some really funny moments.
As for Patti/Jean it’s time for her to return.
Yes, Jean couldn’t deal with Marc being gay; but I’m hoping that time will have made Jean come to her senses.
Shallow note: Michael ADORES Patti and they are FLAWLESS together.

ah! i love how UB cast the best actors around. That’s the quality I love of this show. Magazine publishing… would it be Daniel hiring new employees for the Player magazine? hummm…
