Emmys: Michael Urie Snubbed Again?
July 2, 2008 by Tom
I’ve been waiting to see the shortlist (or “semi-finalists” as they are being called this year) for the 2008 Emmy category Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
Here is the list, according to The Couch:
Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men
Kevin Dillon, Entourage
Justin Kirk, Weeds
Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
John Krasinski, The Office
Jack McBrayer, 30 Rock
Tracy Morgan, 30 Rock
Jeremy Piven, Entourage
Fred Willard, Back to You
Rainn Wilson, The Office
All I’ve got to say is, you’ve got to be freakin’ kidding me! Michael Urie was outstanding this year, perfectly bringing out the best in Vanessa Williams, Becki Newton, America Ferrera, and David Blue. Urie was even funny when he wasn’t given very funny lines earlier this year.
I don’t know who I’d take off the list to put Urie in (probably one of the 30 Rock or Office noms), but he definitely deserves to be in the top 10, at least.
Unbelievable.
Of course, this year, there is an Emmy for Best Reality Host. Maybe he’ll be on the shortlist for that one!

Okay. Now that is absolutely wrong–Michael Urie should’ve been on that short list! I don’t think I laughed harder at a show *all season* than I did when Daniel caught Marc going through his underwear drawer in 24 Candles!
They could’ve sacrificed one of the 30 Rock potentials for all I care. :\
Well, to me, the Emmys have become somewhat infamous for their snubs. So, I’m not completely surprised that they left Michael off the list (which was definitely wrong).
Take, for instance, one of my old favorite shows, “Gilmore Girls”. In all the years that it was on the air, it NEVER was nominated for a major Emmy award (i.e., Best Drama Series, Lead Actress/Actor, etc.). It had so much wit and great acting that you would think that it would have been nominated at least once in one of those categories, but no. They were left out in the cold ’til the bitter end. :\
Annie Potts is on the Best guest comedy actress short list for Zero Worship! Yay, Annie!
Poor Michael Urie
He totally deserves it! Although I would NOT replace one of The Office noms for him. The Office and their cast are sheer genius (sorry, I’m watching that shop
)! So is UB, of course.
i rarely care much for the emmys, apart from vanessa, america and show getting nominated but for michael and becki to get snubbed is a travesty. hell, michael’s been nominated for a teen choice award this year
I know! I was gutted that Michael Urie wasn’t on the shortlist, very disappointing. Most of the shortlists have been to me this year.
