Ugly Betty Off The Air In Australia
This is a shame. Ugly Betty is going off the air on Australia’s Channel 7. Next week will be the last episode for now, but the network indicated that the remaining episodes will return later in the year. (Unlike the US and many of the other places Ugly Betty airs, it is NOT summer repeat season in Australia, because, well, it’s not summer). :) At least, I’m assuming that Channel 7 does just as networks do in the US, starting the television season in the fall. If I’m mistaken, please feel free to correct me.
The series has struggled on Wednesday nights against shows Nine’s Fire 000 (1.24m) and Search and Rescue (1.24m). Last night it was third (944,000) behind the 7:30 Report (1.07m) and New Inventors (997,000). Ouch.
Maybe losing Wiki Kiwi Alan Dale (who starred in Aussie soap opera Neighbors) had a major impact on the show’s popularity.
As far as I know Ugly Betty is thriving in the US and UK (although ratings were down somewhat), and struggling in France (due to having an odd schedule). It’s interesting to me to see the different reactions to the show worldwide.
It’s a shame, too, because I have a feeling Ugly Betty is about to really improve creatively in season 3.

LOL UBFan. Note to self: more coffee in the morning. Preferably, Kiwi coffee, while reading Wikipedia.

You’re right in assuming that Australian television starts near Autumn, and then generally stops in Summer (which is hell for those on summer break)
I’m a little surprised as Ugly Betty got 944,000 viewers this week and 1,040,000 the week before.
I doubt RSPCA Animal Rescue will get better figures.

Yeah Tom you’re right shows do start here in the fall (we call it autumn!) - usually early March, which means we’re always six months behind you - the last show to air (two days ago) was the one where Alan Dale died - the ICU one. And for some annoying reason ALL the tv networks take a break during (our) winter and show repeats and then bring in new epsiodes without telling us. TV in Australia sucks…. I love uTorrent ;)

Re: Ugly Betty in the UK - it’s actually not particularly thriving apparently considering they haven’t shown any of the new episodes since ‘Bananas for Betty’ back in December, and there’s no sign of when it’s going to come back although they said it would ‘later this year’. :(
