Becki Newton In August Rush
Here is video of Ugly Betty’s Becki Newton appearing as Jennifer in the movie August Rush (2007).
It’s a small role, but it’s interesting to see Newton showing off her dramatic chops. Usually in Ugly Betty, she is doing something strange, or mean, or wacky, and others (Betty, Henry, Gio, Daniel) look at her as if she’s lost her mind. In this clip, the roles are reversed.
I would really love to see Becki on the big screen in a comedy, or even and action flick. That’s not to say she’s not mesmerizing as a dramatic actress, though. She has one of the most expressive faces I’ve ever seen.
Whether Newton has any movies in the pipe is one of the questions I would ask her, if I had the opportunity. I won’t say much else yet, but let’s just say that such a thing is not entirely an impossiblity. So, let me ask you, dear readers: if you had the opportunity to throw some questions at Becki Newton, what would you ask?
You never know, she might get a chance to answer one day. ;)

I have quite a few questions. Can we assume from this that you might get to interview her?
1. Where does she want her character Amanda to be whenever Ugly Betty finishes,however many years away that is.
2. Whose amazing idea was it to get her and Michael Urie together for podcasts?
3. Is she a Getty or Benry supporter?(Although it isnt really relevant now we know who’s moving and who isnt”
4. And the obvious,what can she tells us about whats happening in S3?

That was interesting to see her play a different role than Amanda, Ruthie, and flashback Fey.
Oh! I really hope you get a chance to interview her.
Questions I would be interested in asking Becki Newton (I did way more than you could possibly ask, but if you get an interview, maybe you could choose some of your favorites):
1. Is there something that Amanda hasn’t had a chance to do that Becki Newton would like her to able to do?
2. Next year: musical episode. Any details?
3. Does she think that Amanda will ever reconcile with her adopted parents?
4. What’s the best thing about moving to New York?
5. What’s the worst thing about moving to New York?
6. Is there anyone on the show that she wishes she had a chance to work with more often than she does, and if so, who?
7. You recently gave style tips on sunglasses and advocated for aviators. Aviators. Really?
8. How are the SAG negotiations affecting your day-to-day life?
9. You and Michael Urie are always saying you are “besties” with everyone. Name your favorite “besties” and your favorite “frienemies.”
10. Any ideas of who might be your next podcast guest?
11. Is there anything you would like to clear up or address about “Ugly Betty” or your castmates that has appeared in the media?
12. The “Ugly Betty” cast all seem to be very involved in activism and helping charities. Is there any causes you are involved in that you would like to advertise?
13. Do you have a favorite musical?
14. Could you tell us a little about studying European history and what that was like?
I also think that either/or questions can be fun and funny. You know like coffee/tea, but better choices than that. Maybe you could incorporate any shipping questions (if you must ask shipping questions) into that. Like Daniel or Halston. ;)

I read somewhere that she wanted to dance with Patrick Swayze. So my question is have you? and do you have any other actors that she would like to work with in the future?

hey can you ask her if she got my letter? Tell her that it was before the 2nd season came out and it was very long, and was made out of pink polka dotted felt on the front of it…..it was from Carlen Johnson and it said that i was her #1 fan in the universe?? Could you ask her that it would mean the WORLD to me im her biggest fan eva!!!!!

I remember they were just supposed to be guest stars/hosts to the podcast. They said they begged to be on the podcast, and then they got such a blast out of it that Becki Newton and Michael Urie asked to be hosts every week. That’s the official story they said, anyway. :)

Hope you score the interview. Here’s my question for Becki:
I’ve made the strange observation that the number of Amanda gasps is a pretty good measure of how funny an episode is (for example: “Fake Plastic Snow,” lots of gasps, very funny; “I See Me, I.C.U.,” no gasps, pretty serious episode). In “Jump,” Amanda gasps, soon followed by Marc speaking the word, “gasp.” This subtle gag suggests to me that the gasping is the subject of behind-the-scenes teasing. So what’s the deal with all the gasping? I thought Marc St. James was the one with respiratory problems! And who gasps more, Amanda or Becki?
Two of my all-time favorite Amanda gasps: 1) the one in “Zero Worship” where Amanda realizes that Betty is her “B,” long after Halston figured it out; 2) the one in “In or Out” that Amanda shares with Wilhelmina, when Daniel returns from his post-Sofia depression.

It seems like a good article, and I enjoyed reading. There really isn’t any new information, though. Silvio Horta has said Cliff will be back next season, and Michael Urie has mentioned elsewhere that Patti LuPone will be back, and he even confirmed that if there was a musical episode she will be it (and it sounds like MU and BN were dodging musical questions). There are some great quotes on some of my favorite topics from both of them, though. :)
