Video: Michael Urie on The Paul O’Grady Show
June 5, 2008 by Tom
Ugly Betty’s Michael Urie has been all over the place in London this week. Here is video of Urie on The Paul O’Grady Show, which airs in the UK, but unfortunately not in the US.
Thank heaven for YouTube – O’Grady is hilarious! I’d love to see an entire episode sometime.
Urie talks about his first trip to the UK (and Europe, for that matter), and alludes to a hazy memory of a trip to Amsterdam the past weekend. He has seen a lot of theatre (twice at the Globe – I’m so jealous!).
He says that folks in Dallas will insult you to your face, which has some in Dallas a little upset. I KNOW what he’s talking about; it’s not a stright-up insult like in the bigger eastern seaboard cities, but more of a passive-aggressive type of insult. The Nashville derivative of that kind of insult is always followed by “Bless your heart”.
Urie doesn’t seem to like to talk about his childhood much, I’ve noticed.
They also speak about, and have a clip from WTC View, a film from 2005 that is just now available in the UK.
One Ugly Betty item that was interesting – I knew that Urie’s part was supposed to be a one-time gig; what I didn’t know was that the original plot had Wilhelmina firing a different assistant every week. That would have been funny (they could have had quite a few interesting cameos), but I am so glad that Vanessa Williams took Urie under her wing and he stuck around.
I’ll warn you, this clip is a “Part 1″, and so far, I can’t find a part 2. As soon as it is available, I’ll post it here.

I love this! This is a great interview…very funny in places and informative and interesting in others…love Michael Urie. Thanks for posting this!
