Rumors Swirling About Ugly Betty Cast Member

US Magazine (print version) is reporting a rumor about an Ugly Betty cast member that is pretty shocking. If true, it will affect the plot of the show, and its casting.
At the same time, some ancillary information in the report causes me to:
- Believe the rumor is true, and
- Remember that Ugly Betty has the most intelligent fans around, and we figure out where the writers are going shortly after they write the script.

The latest surprise on Ugly Betty? Rebecca Romijn’s transgendered character is going part-time! A source close to the show (which resumes April 24) says, “Everyone loves her, and she’ll still have a recurring role.” The insider adds that Romijn even has a twist in the works. A second show source says, “She is still a cast member, with a contract.”
I can see this – although I would miss Romijn greatly (she’s one of the funniest cast members, and quite pleasing to the eye), but one of the complaints about Betty this year is that there are just too darned many subplots to keep up with. Could this be part of a pruning, to get back to Betty’s “heart”?
Also, I love the line: “The insider adds that Romijn even has a twist in the works.” Diehard Ugly Betty fans speculated that the “spitting image of Daniel” boy being cast would end up being Alexis’ son, as soon as we heard the news, including yours truly. But to have Alexis partially leave the show, just when her story line is becoming one of the most imaginative on television? I hope it’s not true.

As much as I love RR, this “part-time” rumor-if it is true-does make most sense for the show. This is because there has been way too many inconsistencies in the Alexis character this season. And, I am sure it is because of the many different storylines occurring at one time that caused it to happen.
Just wanted to say – thanks a bunch for linking us, Tom! And yes – feel free to call us “BTB” or the “B&B” community.
Also, I’ll just repeat what I said on the LJ community: It’s possible that this rumor is true, if we consider the post-strike changes that Silvio wanted to make regarding the show’s direction. (Maybe we could even factor in what Rebecca has been saying lately – about wanting to start a family with Jerry? Going “part-time” would certainly help with that.)
And I agree – this might indicate that Nathanael belongs to Alexis. (At least, IMO, this headline seems like a strong indication of it.) However, I doubt we’ll see a lot less of Alexis. Maybe there will be a few episodes here and there where we won’t see her, but I’m sure she’ll still figure into the show in a big way.
The reason why RR is partially leaving is because she is probably pregnant. Though that would be an issue being that Alexis is a transexual…
When will we know for sure if it is true or not? i am really hoping it is not true!
