Rebecca Romjin Is An Underrated Actress

February 29, 2008 by Tom

I’ve been thinking about this for a while: who is the best pure actor/actress in the cast of Ugly Betty?  They are all great comedic actors, but which one of them could you picture in a drama, or a soap opera, an action flick, or even a musical?

Most would choose America Ferrera; she’s got the Emmys, and every other award out there.  She is hilarious as a comedic actress, as we saw in episode 2.12(Odor In The Court), and is in her element in a dramatic scene.

Michael Urie also comes to mind.  He’s the Julliard grad.  But, he’s young yet; we haven’t seen much out of him besides Ugly Betty.

Vanessa Williams seems to be at home doing comedy , or music.  I just have a hard time picturing her in an action show.

Veterans Tony Plana and Judith Light are wonderful actors, and certainly should be given consideration.

So far, Becki Newton (you know I love her!), Chistopher Gorham and Eric Mabius have not shown a whole lot of range.  (Don’t shoot the messenger!  Goham hasn’t been given a lot to work with dramatically so far) OK, maybe Newton has.

But one you might not think of who deserves credit as a great overall actress is Rebecca Romjin.  That’s right, I said Rebecca Romjin.  She’s obviously a good comedic actress.  But, couldn’t you so see her in, say a guest role on a show like 24 ? Her paintball scene in episode 2.10 (Bananas For Betty) shows that she could easily pull off the gun-toting femme fatale role.  Perhaps she could be a double agent who turns on Bauer?

I think she could also pull off a serious drama – we’ve seen some nice dramatic moments in season 2 from Romjin, and I’m looking forward to seeing more.

So, what do you think?  Who is the best pure actor/actress in the cast of Ugly Betty?

Now don’t kill me now, but I’d have to say Christopher Gorham. I think we’ve seen a great variety of emotions or ‘range’ from him. He can be funny (as seen with Kenny or L’Amanda) but he can also be very serious. I think part of it has to do with the fact that he’s great with showing emotion on his face, without having to say anything (Like at the end of ‘Something Wicked…’) I love all of the other actors, too, but as you’ve said, we haven’t seen much from some of them other than UB, so I guess it just depends. That’s just my opinion of course, maybe I’m just bias. :P

The critics might not be with me on this, but I thought The Punisher was good entertainment. I think RR played “Joan” in that, and she was pretty good. I didn’t recognize her — I always thought it was Amanda Peet or Jennifer Garner.

I actually dont think Rebecca can do THAT much. i dont feel she can be pushed too much farther as an actress, but Im sure she’ll prove me wrong one day.
I’d like to see Chris G. do more interesting roles. He always plays a nerd or someone odd.
Im also excited to see what Becki Newton can dish out. I love her a lot as well.

i guess i’m not surprised that ashley jensen wasn’t even considered because her early stuff is not very known, but she has done pretty much everything and she is very talented.
