Barbara Walters Special/Oscars Red Carpet Live Blog
Join us for our live blog of the Barbara Walters special (including interview of Vanessa Williams), and most likely the Oscar red carpet arrivals. If things are going well, we might stretch it into the actual show.
We are testing out a new liveblogging software, and if I like it, and you guys like it, we’ll use it for the live reaction posts once Ugly Betty starts new episodes on April 24. This software is pretty revolutionary – you will not have to refresh your page to get new content, and I can include all kinds of interactive content, like instant polls.
Join us at 7/6c tonight!

Welcome to the Ugly Betty News liveblog of the ABC pre-Oscar events. We will be commenting on the Barbara Walters special, and if thing are going well, the red carpet doings. We’ll base our comments on the ABC coverage of both. |
5:57 |
This is the 27th annual Barbara Walters special. |
5:58 |
Four of Hollywood’s hottest megastars spend a revealing hour with Barbara Walters for this year’s Oscar edition of “The Barbara Walters Special.” Academy Award nominee Ellen Page, superstar Harrison Ford, Emmy Award nominee Vanessa Williams and teen sensation Miley Cyrus sit down with Walters for an electrifying hour and share their thoughts and perspectives on their successes. |

I’m sure you’ve heard the money quote from Vanessa Williams about Botox. This should definitely be interesting. |
6:00 |
Here we go! |
6:05 |
I love the audition tape. |
6:06 |
Billy Ray Cyrus used to live down the street from me in the Achy-Breaky days. |
6:07 |
Miley’s accent is more pronounced here than the show. |
6:09 |
Barbara’s asking about the other insane young stars. Miley gives a good answer;hopefully she means it. |
6:10 |
Miley is pretty level-headed for a 15 year old. |
6:11 |
Commercial break – she’s going to ask Vanessa about the Penthouse pics! |
| 6:12 | [Poll] |
Did Miley Cyrus come across as sincere to y9ou? ( 100% ) No ( 0% ) Couldn’t tell ( 0% ) |
6:13 |
Vanessa is playing the piano. Her parents were music teachers? Cool |
6:14 |
Man, she was gorgeous in 1984. (still is) |
6:17 |
She sounds truly surprised at the success of UB |
6:18 |
She’s proud of Barack Obama, but it sounds like she’s for Hillary. |
6:19 |
I like the fact that Vanessa has finally let go of the scandal (for the most part). The pictures sucked! |
6:20 |
She feels vindicated! |
6:21 |
She enjoyed the love scene with Rick Fox (no real surprise there) |
6:22 |
Here’s th Botox testimonial! |
6:23 |
Vanessa plays Wilhelmina for Barbara. |
| 6:24 | [Poll] |
Should Vanessa have admitted that she does Botox? ( 100% ) No ( 0% ) |
6:26 |
Ellen Page is next. |
6:27 |
She |
6:27 |
was in X-men? |
6:29 |
She doesn’t think she deserves a Best Actress Academy Award. She’s probably right. She’s young yet. |
6:30 |
I’m with Barbara – I don’t get Moldy Peaches. |
6:31 |
She says she’s not DARK, though many think she is. |
6:32 |
Good for her – she just zapped Perez Hilton, if not by name. |
6:34 |
She’s playing a G and a G6 if you’re curious. That is one strange song. She’s got a nice voice, though. |
6:35 |
Wow, Harrison Ford gets the most time. Barbara has a seniority system. |
| 6:36 | [Poll] |
Has Ellen Page been a star long enough to get a Barbara Walters interview? ( 50% ) No ( 50% ) |
6:39 |
Ford: American Grafitti- Beer! |
6:39 |
I didn’t know they filmed Star Wars in England! I thought I was a pretty big Star Wars dork. |
6:41 |
He loves working with Spielberg. Who wouldn’t? |
6:46 |
Now we get to the push for the new Indiana Jones movie |
6:48 |
I’m glad they’re letting Indy age though. |
6:48 |
Ford would rather be respected on the set rather than win an Oscar. |
6:50 |
I love this story about how he was kicked out of he biz early on. |
6:52 |
He wants to be remembered as a good collaborator. Interesting answer. |
6:57 |
Barbara is still a great interviewer. And nobody cried! |
6:58 |
I really wonder how much of those Hannah millions Cyrus really sees. No doubt Disney is making a fortune. |
7:00 |
We’ll do the red carpet for a few minutes just because I’m still working out the kinks in this software. |
7:00 |
Regis regis! |
7:03 |
George Clooney is irreverent! He’s talking about basketball! |
7:04 |
Marion Cotillard is quite fetching. She has the mermaid look like Beki Newton did at the Emmys. |
7:05 |
Travolta colors his hair, Clooney does not, apparently. |
7:09 |
Miley Cyrus has a cute dress on. |
7:12 |
Man – Faye Dunaway still looks greats. |
7:13 |
Jennifer Graner – it’s har |
7:13 |
d to go wrong in black. |
7:13 |
She’s pretty squished in there, though. |
7:16 |
Cameron Diaz; don’t hate her because she’s beautiful.:) |
7:17 |
Amy Adams is absolutely gorgeous. You can’t |
7:17 |
take your eyes off her! |
7:19 |
Heh- ABC naturally is interviewing people wih Disney / ABC connections. |
7:21 |
I’m going to call it quits at 8:30/7:30c . It’s been a good test for the liveblogging system. I think I’m going to stick with it. |
7:22 |
You have to like Ellen Page. |
7:23 |
Hillary Swank’s lips aren’t as fat as normal. |
7:24 |
I love that they are going to recreate that wonderful musical scene from Enchanted. |
7:27 |
You know, next year, I’m watching TV Guide’s red carpet coverage. ABC’s left a lot to be desired. |
7:28 |
OK, this was fun. See y’all next time! |
