Betty Suarez, Natalie Portman Stole Your Necklace

February 11, 2008 by Tom

This is pretty wild.  Artsy historical romance film The Other Boleyn Girl, set for release on February 29, stars Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson.  It looks to be pretty fascinating stuff, and I’m sure I’m going to see it.  I’m a sucker for historical movies, although this one looks like it may skew to the brainy chick-flick genre.  Here is a screen cap from the official web site:

Take a good look at Portman’s necklace.  Look familiar?

Dang, if it isn’t Betty’s “B” necklace!  Check it out:

Now, I have no doubt that historians will say that the necklace is authentic for the time of King Henry, blah, blah, blah.  But, you have to admit, it’s kind of cool to see a three-pearled “B” necklace on Portman’s beautiful neck on the big screen.

i just want to comment the minds of UB were probably insipired by Anne Boylen to give Betty the necklace, for nothing more than it’s a gigantic “B”

did you notice you said ” for the time of King Henry”…get it…Henry! ‘B” necklace….Betty.
maybe its just me, thinking of Betty and Henry too much.

  3. Travis says:

Anne Boleyn can be seen wearing the necklace in some of her more famous historical portraits. It was her favorite and she wore it almost constantly.

I’m surprised more people didn’t realize that Betty’s necklace was a replica of Bolyen’s.

  4. Chumpster says:

I hope Betty’s fate is better than Anne Boleyn’s.

On a completely unrelated note, I could stare at Scarlett Johannson for the rest of my life.

  5. Beth says:

Is this serious? Please tell me that Anne Boleyn’s iconic necklace is not actually better known as Betty’s. It’s not just “authentic for the period”, it’s what Anne actually wore every day!

Beth, I was just having some fun.

    :)

  7. Ann says:

I never even knew that Ungly Betty wore Anne’s necklace. But I guess that’s b/c I never watch the show. Look Anne up on Wikipedia and the first pic of her will have that nacklace. Even Anne on The Tudors is wearing it. And they can’t make any movie about Anne Boleyn without her infamous necklace. Just do a little Research and you will find out where is started from.

The show Ugly Betty copied the necklace that Anne Boleyn wore herself, she is seen wearing it in many of her pictures. The movie had the character of Anne Boleyn wearing it not because they liked it from the show Ugly Betty but because it was actually something that Anne Boleyn wore.
