America Ferrera Gets Political
January 15, 2008 by Tom
Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera, and her “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” co-star Amber Tamblyn, have joined the campaign of US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Ferrera and Tamblyn will serve as national co-chairs of “HillBlazers,” the campaign’s youth outreach program and are both expected to campaign in Las Vegas this week, in advance of Saturday’s caucuses in Nevada.
“This election is too important to stand on the sidelines, especially for my generation. I look forward to rallying young people to use their voices and get involved. I believe that Hillary Clinton can turn this country around,” Ferrera said in a statement issued by the Clinton campaign. “I am confident she will be a champion for young women and men across the country.”
Interestingly, Clinton’s main rival, Senator Barack Obama, has been advertising heavily during “Ugly Betty”, in an attempt to reach young voters.
Reminder, my dear readers: we don’t do politics here. But I did want to pass along this item I felt was newsworthy about Ugly Betty’s star. I’m quite proud of Ms Ferrera for getting involved. But, not in an annoying, Sean Penn kind of way.
