2007 Ugly Betty News Year in Review
What a Year it has been! Ugly Betty News was launched in August. At the time, the anticipation for the upcoming season 2 was already rising - the Ugly Betty Season 1 DVD came out. We heard rumours of James Van Der Beek and Victoria Beckham making appearances, along with a musical episode.
September brought the now infamous America Ferrera Glamour Magazine cover. I posted it without much thought as a lighthearted entertainment post; little did I know the firestorm that would ensue. It spawned a very important discussion - one that might be revisited on the show in episode 2.11, “Zero Worship” (I now am pretty sure that the “zero” in the title represents “size zero”).
Also in September, the Emmys were held. America Ferrera stole the show on the red carpet:

Fererra won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Vanessa Hudgens had a nude pic scandal, and I thought Vanessa Williams should give her advice. What do you know? She did! Salma Hayek had her baby girl. Then, the season launched with the airing of “How Betty Got Her Grieve Back“. The ending was heartbreaking.
October saw the airing of “Family Affairs“, which featured Marc making thunder using a piece of sheet metal, “Betty’s Wait Problem” (introduction of Gio), “Grin And Bear It” (Justin as gangsta), and “A League Of Their Own” (Hilda as cemetary lady, Hot Henry dream sequence, Marc meets Cliff, Betty finally takes the plunge with Henry).
UBN also became part of Spekked, Vanessa Williams became a very rich, clear-skinned woman, drumbeats we had heard in the distance about a writer’s strike became very very real.
November brought sweeps, and thus we had the Wicked Episode, the Posh Wedding Episode (complete with My Milkshake sung to pipe organ), the death of Bradford, and the near-death of Mode.
We also saw the catastrophic beginning of the WGA strike, Lindsay Lohan toyed with an Ugly Betty appearance, Gabrielle Union signed on, and we had a premature celebration concerning an untrue rumour about the end of the strike.
In December, we discovered that Gene Simmons would be appearingon the show, and that Michael Urie would be hosting a reality series. There was an awful robbery of one of Ugly Betty’s stars. And we saw the airing of “Bananas For Betty“.
On a personal note, 2007 has been an incredible year. I think my recaps got better as the year progressed, and the idea of a chat-like live thread during episodes seemed silly at first, but blossomed into a great feature.
And 2007 wasn’t without a bit of wackiness. In scouring the web for any all all Ugly Betty news, I discovered some interesting things - not least of which is that there is an actual site called Celebrity Dog Watcher.Com. I have no response to that. I also found the perfect gift for the entertainment reporter in your life: the paparazzi play set.
Finally, I’ve made some great blog-friendships, with people from around the world. I hope to continue to get to know all of you better in 2008.
Happy New Year!
