America Ferrera, Ugly Betty Win Honors Again
America Ferrera and Ugly Betty were honored yet again last night, this time at the 9th Annual Family Television Awards. This is an awards show sponsored by The Family Friendly Programming Forum (FFPF), an initiative of the Association of National Advertisers.
Now, what’s really cool is that this show will air on the CW Network, on Thursday, December 27th at 9 pm EST. So, I’ll put the results after the jump.
Ugly Betty won Best Comedy, and America Ferrera won Best Actress. America Ferrera appears on the show.
I’ve often had debates with friends over whether or not Ugly Betty is a family show, because many of the themes are more than a little grown up (in a cartoonish kind of way), and for some reason the show seems to be overly fond of the word “bitch”. And who can forget that our introduction to Daniel in the series pilot was, well, let’s just say it required a little bit of explaining.
However, that’s a superficial view. What is so endearing about the show, and why I allow my kids to watch it with me every Thursday, is that the basic values of the show (loyalty, family, overcoming hardship, seeing beyond the superficial) are presented so artfully that anything gratuitous can be overlooked. My kids LOVE Marc, but they also love when he gets his for being mean. They learn many important lessons by watching Ugly Betty, but to them, they are just watching a funny show.

I love that Pushing Daisies won for best new series. My kids love watching the show with me as much as they enjoy Ugly Betty.
