Ashley Jensen’s Been Saying A Lot Lately
Of all the quotable quotes coming out of camp Ugly Betty the last few days, the most noteworthy have been from Ashley Jensen.
On befriending Hollywood stars:
“If I started hanging out with TOM (CRUISE) and KATIE (HOLMES), people would think I was their cleaner tagging along!” UGLY BETTY star ASHLEY JENSEN doesn’t have the confidence of fellow Brits DAVID and VICTORIA BECKHAM when it comes to befriending Hollywood stars.
Speaking of the Beckhams, she had this to say about Posh Spice, aka Victoria Beckham:
UGLY BETTY star ASHLEY JENSEN cannot understand why VICTORIA BECKHAM is constantly criticised by the media - insisting she is just an ordinary girl doing her best as a celebrity. The Scottish actress, who - like the Beckhams - is currently based in Los Angeles, is saddened at the harsh media coverage the Spice Girl receives both in her native U.K. and the U.S. She tells Closer magazine, “It’s a shame people want her to fail so badly. I haven’t met her yet, but she seems very down to earth for someone who wears designer clothes and millions of pounds of jewellery. “Over here, there’s so much pressure to have your hair and make-up perfect. However, when I do get recognised, I think: ‘Oh my god! What am I wearing?’ Perhaps I should be more like Victoria Beckham and groom myself a wee bit more.”

On troubled young starlets Brittney Spears and Lindsay Lohan:
UGLY BETTY star ASHLEY JENSEN has poured scorn over the mothers of troubled celebrities like BRITNEY SPEARS and LINDSAY LOHAN - blaming them for making their children do “too much, too young”. The Scottish actress believes pushy parents and a stolen childhood are at the root of the problems experienced by Spears and Lohan - resulting in depression, eating disorders and drug and alcohol addictions. She tells Closer magazine, “I worry about girls like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. I think their families and their mums have a lot to do with their problems. These poor young girls have done too much too young. “I always thought Britney Spears and her overt sexuality at a very young age was a bit dodgy. Children should be children. Be a child for as long as you can because you’ll be an adult for long enough.”
I love this woman. If she weren’t married, and I weren’t married, and if not for the fact that her Scottish accent and my US southern drawl would make conversation between us near impossible…sigh.
Anyway…
The most reported quote has been this:
Scottish actress ASHLEY JENSEN regrets signing a seven year contract for hit show UGLY BETTY - because she is dreading raising a child in the U.S. The 38-year-old - who plays stylist Christina MCKinney in the hit show - recently signed a seven year contract with show producers, ABC. But Jensen regrets the move, because she would prefer to start a family in the U.K. She says, “I wouldn’t want my child to have an American accent, so that’s a slight worry. And I do miss London.”
The reporting on this makes me a little angry. Many have passed along this quote as if Jensen were miserable. I don’t know Ashley, but there is no reason to believe from this quote that Jensen is in total depression for being here in the US. Let me repeat the quote, with emphasis:
”I wouldn’t want my child to have an American accent, so that’s a slight worry. And I do miss London.”
The word “regret” never appears in the quote, so I’m wondering how much inference Contact Music (my source for these quotes) placed in them and how much she actually said.
Hopefully, we can interview her ourselves soon and get to the bottom of this.
